And for me, Monterrey's has something I like.... and I like it a lot. The Shrimp Burrito with Mexican Rice is one of my absolute favorite meals in Spencer. Now, I'm not expert on Mexican cuisine, and quite frankly I haven't tried a great many things on their particular menu... but I've been ordering the Shrimp Burrito meal consistently for years - as management and employees there have changed - this meal has remained my favorite there. So I suppose for me, this review is more a review of that meal. Which I love. If you have it, do yourself a favor and order a bottle of Dos Equis and drink it the "traditional" way. They serve it with a wedge of lime. Just shove that lime wedge down in the bottle and drink the beer with it floating inside. That, with the shrimp burrito, is one of my favorite lunches around. Now that may not be your thing, and that's fine. For me, I don't always do so well with extremely spicy meals. I did try one of their very spicy meals once, you know, one of the meals that has a "red star" next to it on the menu. Now, silly me, I thought the star meant that it was a new item. HA HA HA! Oh, it burned just as much coming out as it did going down, if you get my drift. But that was my own damn fault. No one forced me to eat the spicy thing. For what it's worth, the spicy thing did taste good for the short time my taste buds were still working. Monterrey's is also the only place where I've had the pleasure of eating fried ice cream.
