One of the most important things I learnt from my mum is the importance of a good fitting bra,…read moreespecially if you're bigger than a C! It's all very well buying yourself a pretty bra and knicker set every few months from Zara or H&M but they almost certainly won't last and don't fit properly, which makes your clothes fit badly and essential could give you back problems. I came to Bravissimo with my sister, on the advice of a friend to get a proper fitting and invest in some 'proper' bras (call before and you'll be sure to have somebody help you). This shop is for people size D and above, not people who need egg warmers like me, just so you know. The girl who measured her was really down to earth and made her feel very comfortable, She told her where she was going wrong, i.e. wearing bras too big, and suggested some brands that would do her justice. She bought 3 bras for under £100 but worth every penny, her whole shape and posture has improved.

The shop front is comprised of a door and then stairs to the unknown, a world only open to ladies gifted with a Dcup or more. Upstairs you'll find a wide selection of bras and support clothing, all quite expensive but very good quality and there's no frump involved. They do cup sizes right up to K and offer free non-obligatory fittings which you can either walk in to or pre-book. The staff are very responsive to customers wandering up from the downstairs entrance and trot over to assist, and are particularly helpful if you're not sure what you're looking for.

Oscar Wilde would have loved The Lavendar Room…read more They don't sell books, waistcoats or handsome young men sadly. They do however, sell lots of beautiful things. The front of the shop is devoted to stylish and French looking homeware from distressed mirrors, picture frames, candle holders, cake stands and tea-sets to chandeliers whilst the back is home to a small but fabulous selection of ladieswear. There's silk PJs and kimonons, stripey bedsocks, suede shoes and boots by Chie Mihara, lovely handbags from Mimi and adorable silk scarves and jewellery. As you'd expect, the price tags are slightly higher than other local homeware stores but then, the quality feels better. Personally, I'm after the gold swallow necklace and the silver glitterball bracelet. Two things I'm sure Oscar would approve of...

And then I take the day dream inside! The Lavender Room has been a favourite shop of mine for a long time. Yes it might be overpriced and a little contrived (but seriously, I challenge you to find a lifestyle boutique that isn't!), but the fact remains that everything in store is beautiful! From the tiny heart-shaped nicknacks and the gorgeous glazed chinaware to the delicate clothing upstairs, everything is carefully chosen and perfectly positioned. Pretty silk lingerie and beautifully cut dresses drape over stylish furniture and hang on uncluttered rails. I often find myself sifting through the clothing, imagining another far more glamorous life for myself! The Lavender Room is one of the most successful lifestyle/gift boutiques in Brighton, for the simple reason that it actually makes you aspire to own everything in the shop! In the front of the shop you'll find attractive displays of smaller items, such as soaps, dishes and jewelery. These are perfect gift items- they even wrap your purchase in lavender tissue paper and a pretty paper bag!

The staff were very cheery and accommodating to any wish we had, from grabbing new sizes of bikinis, finding us towels and hats that match out swimsuits, rearranging things so we can pay and try the clothes on quickly. The only thing that could have done with a touch up is the outdated and tired-looking changing rooms. The lighting did not help us with wanting to purchase many of the bikinis as it was very unflattering. It doesn't make much sense for a sex/underwear shop to have poor changing rooms or lighting. One more thing I'd like to mention is the fact that the air con had been broken a few days. The poor staff were suffering in 25+ degree heat whilst running around like headless chickens for us. Please pleaaassse get these fixed to help your staff and customers!!! Thanks to the amazing, epic, cheery staff for everything they did for us! I wish I had their names so I could mention them!

Now, there seems to be an Ann Summers on most high streets across the country and they're widely accepted as the place for women to go for sexy underwear. Personally, I wouldn't be seen dead in one of their babydolls but a lot of ladies can't seem to get enough of them - hence the 3 stars. They also sell lace and silk corsets, thongs, matching bra and nickers and for those wanting to take things a step further, lubricants, lotions, vibrators, dildos and their best selling, rampant rabbits. Personally, if I wanted to buy something special for the boudoir I'd rather go to Agent Provocateur but for those on a budget, Ann Summers is probably a good starting point.

One of the flagship anchor stores of Churchill Square, Debenhams in Brighton is a pretty decent…read moresized store, although pretty much average for the chain it is located in. It is located fairly close to Apple, up to a steep gradient in the mall floor. The store isn't as modern as one would expect from an anchor store of a mall, but still pretty much does the job when it is open with a satisfactory selection. The store like most branches of Debenhams is pricier than the overall feel of the store implies on the first impression. Average, generic Debenhams store with poor opening times (unstructured, closing early on most days but this is the same as the entire mall) - A useful brand for the city but not really a great store within that brand. 2*

Debenhams is like a time capsule…read more Every time I offer to take my mum shopping and we've done every other store in the city from M&S to Wallis, she swears she just wants to 'Pop in Debenhams for 5 minutes.' And of course, we always emerge weighed down by bags one or two hours later. This particular branch is tiny compared to the Manchester and London stores but they still manage to squeeze a lot of stock in. The ground floor is mainly occupied by accessories, shoes, perfume and make-up counters from Clarins to Benefit whilst the first floor has a strong selection of bed, bath, kitchen and dining room goodies. There's also a small childrens-wear department. The reason my mum loves this store however, is for the womens wear in the basement. There's air conditioning, three changing room areas and small subsidiaries of Wallis, Red Herring, Jane Norman, Warehouse, Top Shop, Oasis, Coast and Red Herring amongst others. Right now, there's also a Blue Cross sale on - which means 70% off for card-holders. Hang on, I think my mobile's ringing...
