What makes the church so compelling, is the pastor, Reverend Kelly Cox. He's a very personable…read moreand jolly gentleman, who bears a slight resemblance to Santa Claus, with his white beard and matching white hair. He has the innate ability to combine the message of God, and at the same time, makes you feel so good about being there. The message seems entirely extemporaneous, and comes from the heart instead of a teleprompter. He steps off of the pulpit, and walks into the congregation to be closer to them, smiling though the sermon, and interjecting some levity at just the right moments. At the end of the service, you walk out feeling a little better about life, more loving of each other, and feeling closer to God.
The last time we visited Decatur, it was for my mom's funeral. Reverend Cox conducted the service. During this very difficult time for us, he talked about all of the lovable things about my mom, and with tasteful levity, brought us a few chuckles through the many tears. He made us feel better about her passing on to a better place, and made it easier for us. He gave her the best eulogy possible.
I would definitely recommend this church. If it was in our town, we would definitely look forward to attending every week.
