This time, we dropped into Terra Mundi after several hours at the Prado, which is just a few blocks away. We strolled into an empty restaurant at 1:30 pm and thought that maybe this wasn't such a great choice after all. By the time we left a couple of hours later, the restaurant was packed and bustling, and justifiably so. (Almost needless to say, we never did adapt to the Spanish dining clock during a 10-day visit to the country.) Terra Mundi offers a permanent menu del dia with about ten mains, most of which clocked in at around 12 euro. (A couple of them were a one or two euro more.) There was also a daily menu, which we opted for: I went with the potaje with spinach and cod, which was rich, hearty, and bold, and a grilled loin of tuna (cooked a really nice medium rare), which came with a fresh green salad. A euro more got us a glass of wine each. The wife had a salmon tartare as her first course, which was a winner. (Her tuna was somewhat overcooked, though.) Our main server was delightful. We speak poor Spanish--or I should say "spoke," because the fleeting benefits of our pre-trip language cramming mean that our Spanish language skills have already faded into the range of "thoroughly inept"--and she spoke almost no English, but service couldn't have been better.
