Perfect after dinner place for drinks and entertainment.
Fado is acoustic Portuguese folk music. The songs are typically about love, loss, and the sea. It doesn't really matter to me because I don't understand Portuguese, but I love the experience.
This place fills up, so it is best to make a reservation on their Facebook page. (We got lucky and found 2 seats at the bar.)
A few things to note:
The performers also run the place.
Each set is usually 3 or 4 songs in a row.
The bar and bathroom shut down during each set.
It is impolite to speak during a set, but okay to sing along.
Patrons are usually encouraged to perform their own Fado if they have one.
When in town I go here every night they are open. It's not for every American. The whole shutting the bar down, and not talking while they sing seemed weird at first. In reality it is a level of respect to the performers and the song. At a Godsmack concert you can't talk over the music. At a Frankenreiter show I want the 2 women behind me to shut up so I can hear the music. Here they mass shush you, or tell you to be quiet.
COVID had them closed, but it is open again! read more
