Another locals spot. Complimentary Olives served with drinks. The menu is cutely hand written and there are black and white photos covering the walls. Really, the interior is charming and cozy without trying too hard.
Recommend:
(First off: tapas = smaller plates, raciones = larger portion. I always think it's better to order a bunch of tapas, but I guess it goes without me really having to say)
Torta de la Serena: a Torta comes from a round that has a yummy, gooey interior that has a slight funk. Here it is served on bread with a jam. We ordered two rounds of these. If I could go back, I'd order a racion.
Jamon iberico: duh.
Chorizo iberico de bellota: slight spice, saffron. Also delicious. I'm half Portuguese and used to a slightly different style chorizo that's a little more fatty. But after this trip, who needs more calories???
Service here is better than the Madrid standard. You kind of just have to yell over to the bar area what you want and they pass it to you over the counter. The owner asked us what type of wine we like (fuerte or suave?) and just started pouring from a bottle that he thought we'd like.
One of the highlights of my Madrid food and bar crawl. read more
