Hotel Cala di Volpe, a Luxury Collection Hotel, Costa Smeralda

We've been coming here 5 times already ad I'm sure we'll keep on coming back. It's one of the most…read morepeach, calm and luxurious hotels in Sardinia. Have to mention, that it's seasonal and usually closed after September 25. The hotel is designed by the architect Jacques Couelle to resemble an old fishing village. There are a lot of terraces, halls, towers and irregular roofs that blend beautifully with the natural landscape. Situated close to Porto Cervo, but some driving distance. There aren't much places to walk around, better relax and enjoy everything they offer on the property. You can hire a boat or yacht right there and they will bring it to you to their own port. The hotel has its own yacht that you can chart for the whole day. You can reserve it with concierges that are on duty 24 hours a day by the way. There is a private beach, you can walk there - it's about 1 km through a nice path, or they have boats departing every 30 minutes back and forth and that's just 5 minutes ride. Sunbeds, towels - it's all included of course. The sea - it's just fantastic. You can swim there forever, water is turquoise and very clear. It's a gorgeous bay. One of the most beautiful in the world. No wonder Princess Diana used to go there and other celebrities. There is a large swimming pool for those who don't want to go to the sea and prefer to relax at the pool. The rooms are spacious and almost all with a great view. Pretty large bathroom with both - shower and bathtub. All amenities are by Aqua di Parma. Complimentary water. Full minibar. Turn down service. Breakfast is included, outside at the restaurant close to the pool, and the buffet selection is ideal, very exquisite: different cheeses, meat cuts, smoked salmon, pancakes, pastries, eggs of all desired preparations, all that you can think of, I guess. Even local Sparkling (not Champagne, but not bad either). Lunch is served at that restaurant too. Dinner in the main restaurant inside. Sometimes they have promotion: you can pay some extra and have dinner included or there is an option to get both - dinner and lunch and not only on this property, but at any 3 other their sister properties in the area. The food is delicious, fresh lobsters, oysters, turbot, steaks and all Italian delights. There are two gyms. One is inside on the lower level of the hotel. The second one is outside, close to the water. Pretty good equipped both and there is even a personal trainer if you want to take a private. You can get a ride on water ski or a wake board there. The rental place is right on the property. The prices are a little bit steep though, higher than at Cote d'Azur, but don't forget where you are, Costa Smeralda is not a cheap resort. Different boutiques, jewelry stores with security on duty inside the hotel. SPA and Beauty Salon. Bar. Live piano music in the bar area every evening. Valet parking. Perhaps they may be fully booked during high season and in summer, but in May or September it's very peaceful and quiet. Though last year they changed their policy and reduced booking price quite a lot, which rose the coming of mid-level class from some counties and I can't say that we were happy about that. Better they haven't done so and kept the high range luxurious tourist attraction. By the way, the funny movie "Les bronzes 3" was filmed there on the property and the hotel is greatly shown there if you're interested. Great place for couples of all ages, romantic escape, families and friends.

Prepare to be scammed…read more This place is a textbook tourist trap. Deceptive pricing, rude staff, and zero accountability. It's sad because the setting is beautiful and had real potential. We even joked that it would be a great wedding venue. No longer feel the same as I would never in my life want to deal with these people ever again. We stopped in for a quick drink before dinner. Just two drinks each, no food. The waiter clearly told us it was a 50 euro minimum per person, which we were fine with. But when the bill arrived, it was 600 euros for five people. Suddenly, they claimed it was a 120 euro minimum, something we were never told. When we questioned it, the manager was condescending, dismissive, and completely unhelpful. His only response: "It's on the menu," then he walked away. No apology. No explanation. Had they been honest upfront, we either would have stayed for a full dinner or never sat down. Instead, they lured us in with false information. Classic bait and switch. We'll be disputing the charge with Amex and reporting this place everywhere we can. Avoid at all costs. You'll be overcharged, disrespected, and left with a very expensive lesson.

Stayed here while visiting family in Sardinia. I was expecting a lot more for a 4 star hotel. First…read morewe paid extra to be closer to the restaurant and to the pool and beach. It is still quite a hike. We have to wait for the shuttle or we have to walk. It is very hilly and in the hot sun very tiring to walk up hills each day. The pool is about a 10 minute walk and the beach is a 15 minute walk. Walking down is ok, walking up I wouldn't recommend unless you are incredibly fit. You have to go early in the morning to grab a chair by the pool which is free, you have to pay for an umbrella and chairs on the beach. This is quite ridiculous for the amount of money we paid to stay here. Also, there is no water anywhere to drink. You have to go to the bar and they will only give you a bottle of water to purchase. The only meal that comes with free water is breakfast. The breakfast, lunch, and dinner buffet is really good. They rotate the meal items each day. As far as our room goes we have a beautiful view, but there are ants everywhere! Outside our door, inside our room. We don't keep any food inside either. They are due to all the vegetation. I think the hotel should do something about this especially on our patios. The staff are very friendly but our TV did not work. We requested it to be fixed many times. They fixed it once and then it didn't work again. Also, the room key card is an issue. It only worked the first few days we were here. They gave us a physical key but when we checked in they put the wrong key in our key envelope so the staff had to open our door. So we have been having to use the physical key to get into our room. My husband told the front desk and they said the key card will only work if you don't double lock the front door. That makes no sense because our door was not double locked. The pool is beautiful and salt water with amazing views, but the bottom of the pool has hard stone and you can cut your feet, it is a beautiful location. I came to Sardinia to relax and hiking up to my room from the beach or pool or after dinner is not relaxing to me nor is waiting for shuttles with a baby. It seems like the baby club is great but we didn't use it. They had a show for children on one evening which was nice. The live music at night is also nice. I would not recommend this hotel for the elderly or disabled it is very hard to get around. It is also not stroller friendly to go down to the pool or beach unless you take the shuttle. I hope they make some improvements.

I almost expected a nice weather (sardinia is normally warm for the whole month of september) but it was actually gorgeous: warm, windy and dry. Regarding the resort: starting from the reception i felt welcomed and pampered! The personnel was always ready to assist me for every need and they were constantly smiling! There are two restaurants inside the resort: one of them, near the reception is organized as a buffet, the other one need to be reserved and has a-la-carte service. I didn't have the chance to try the a-la-carte restaurant, because i was enjoying the buffet: there were everyday a full assortments of meats and fish, several kind of pastas, appetizers and desserts. The bread is probably home made, because they have a fantastic oven which is used to bake pizza for the dinner. There are various sport activities (not tried), like the wellness center (not tried), a pool filled with sea water (tried) and the sea is close to the resort (5 minutes walking probably). it was a beautiful experience and now i'm sad because i'm back in London.

This Doubletree is near the airport (well a 20 euro cab ride so not that bloody near) and looked to have a huge pool! Also they advertised free shuttle to the airport. Winning, right?! When we arrived, we couldn't check in till 3pm which I wasn't thrilled with as I thought for most hotels it was 2pm? We received a welcome chocolate chip cookie, which is a lovely touch. Then they told us they could arrange for a driver to the airport and it would cost 15 euro. Um, what happened to free? Total lie on their booking.com page, it would seem. The room was lovely and we couldn't be happier with it. We trotted down to the pool, which was as big as advertised with complimentary towels and loungers under cover. I had wanted to get drunk at the pool bar but 5 euro for a small can of beer is just way too much. So no drinks for me. The biggest downside I had with this place is the mosquitos. I got bitten 10 times lying by the pool for an hour and a half. Can't they get those mosquito repellers things? We went back to our room and I looked up the massage prices. Very reasonable for a 50 minute massage so we booked two. I appreciated the reception manager coming in and translating for us as she spoke no English. It was a decent massage for totally last minute booking and she was happy to do mine first and my boyfriend's straight after. However, she kinda short changed us on time and it was about 40 minutes each really. We then popped to the hotel bar (honestly, there is NOTHING near by, it's in the middle of a highway so you really can't leave unless you get a cab). I was very happy with the bar, we ordered drinks and got free snacks, including a little sandwich. Then off to the restaurant for dinner. This was a great experience and very reasonable. My boyfriend's steak was fantastic and the service was great. Really good caprese salad. Upon check out, we hit a bit of a bum note. I went to pay and there was confusion, he handed me the invoice and said 'all fine' so I asked if he charged it to my card and he said yes. Then as we went to leave, he called after me to pay. I thought they had the card? I gave them the card and the machine seemed to not work for such a long time that my boyfriend came back to check on me, so then they cancelled it and used a different handheld machine. And then he typed some of my card details into his screen. I don't like this, they should have no reason to need any of the details once they have charged it. It felt very suspicious. A bit of a hit and miss visit really.
