It's a good thing I didn't look at the reviews before coming here. We were on our way to a restaurant that we saw on trip advisor that had great reviews just from last month but when we got there it was shut down & closed! So we ended up across the street to this cafe. Server spoke very little English but was very nice and attentive. It's comfort French food on a budget. We were in Paris so we wanted to eat as much French food as we can. So we had escargot, foie gras, duck filet steak & fried potatoes (like steak fries but round) & veal chop with pasta(taste like a veal stroganoff). We thought food tasted great! First - I rarely give a poor or so-so review because sometimes it's just a bad day, and you hate to ruin someone's business. I just checked into our hotel across the street, and the Concierge recommended a place that was then closed. Tabac looked like a pleasant cafe and had people inside. It was 3PM. It was by far the worst brasserie food I have EVER had - and I'm comparing to authentic French bistros / brasseries in Los Angeles, Silicon Valley etc. It took forever to get a Perrier. I ordered a sampler of pate that was supposed to be in a jar -- mousse- like. I got very hard cold slabs of really horrible pate -- you couldn't spread it at all because it was very hard. Two of them tasted horrible. The third was okay but had a very strong country pate flavor. I also ordered a ham and cheese omelette with chips and salad. How hard is it to mess up an omlette? I was very specific fromage and jamon. I got mushrooms, and it was over cooked on the outside and runny inside. I pointed this out and showed it was overlooked. I then got a ham and cheese omlette. It was also overlooked and tasted awful. So did the crispy french fries. I surmise that the oil was very bad, on or in grill or fryer. Both tasted "off." The reviews of this place are quite harsh. The food was good, it came out very quickly, and the waiter was very nice. Only issue was a language barrier, which is our own fault. We ordered a glass of house white and got a glass of red (which was good). read more

I ate here twice on two seperate occasions during my trip. Decent food. Good service. Nice outdoor eating area located perfectly on the street corner. This isn't a place I would make reservations for. We ate here when we didn't have time to find a nice spot. Thanks but no thanks. Won't recommend this place to anyone ever!!! Unless you want very slow service, a steak that is ground beef severely undercook with old lettuce and tomato. I seriously did not eat anything but a few French fries. I simply just had to pay which I will add took awhile . I Had to look for the waiter to pay and leave ASAP. If I could leave negative stars I would. This place was TERRIBLE !! From the minute you walk in to waiting almost 45min to pay your bill it was an absolute disaster. Server was RUDE, food wasn't good, especially for the prices they have listed and did I mention the service was TERRIBLE ! We waited almost an hour to lay out bill that we had in our hands and our waiter kept walking by saying he be right there, right there.
