We live at Esker Apartments. This property has cockroaches (our building is a year old). Management thought it was appropriate to treat our unit for cockroaches just 2 weeks prior to our move out (rather than waiting till we move out to fully treat the unit despite our unit not being rented after we move out). They suggested that this needed to handle it ASAP but instead of informing the entire building and treating the common areas too, they decided to only treat units near the infested one and not tell any of the residents. This required us moving all of our items from the entire kitchen area and finding a place for our dog to stay on a work day. Then, they told us if we didn't move our items from cabinets before treatment, they'd charge us for the treatment. (They never inspected our unit beforehand for cockroaches - it was the unit next to ours). Please consider this when looking to live at a TR Mckenzie property. Not to mention we had 3 property managers over the course of our 12 month lease. They're treating our unit today for cockroaches (March 14th, 2024). Pretty convenient to pack up all your items 2 weeks before your move out! If the building has cockroaches, everyone who lives in the building deserves to know. read more

I hadn't logged in to my yelp account in quite awhile, and today I logged in to a few horrible messages regarding my review of TR Mckenzie...and now I see someone else had "called me out" in another post. I lived in the apartment complexes in Aspen Hill for two years, which I believe at the time was their newest location, so all of the amenities that I had were amazing and really well maintained. The staff threw fun parties and both me and my husband had a great time when we were living there. I WISH i had gotten some sort of benefit from writing that review but I received nothing for that review, not even a thank you post it. We never had to sublease or finish our lease early or dealt with any complaints so we had no problem with the staff. We did not get our deposit back even though we thought we left the place in great shape which was disappointing but we never followed up to see why either. Anyways I guess my original review should've specified that I lived at Aspen hill, that may have cleared up some of the "confusion" as to why my review was so good! read more

As soon as we informed them we would not be renewing our lease, customer service dropped. We were removed from the current tenants email list, not informed of maintenance in the building. Barely given notice of showings, and the management does not communicate with each other at all. Trying to get an issue resolved is like playing round robin endlessly. Happy to be leaving this management company. read more

This review is for the real estate division and comes with a warning if you do not need to get out of a lease at a T.R. McKenzie property find a different realtor. We had to use them to get out of our current lease and throughout the process were frustrated with lack of knowledge and assistance on questions. During the closing they could not answer common questions and we had to discuss it further with our banker. Than the reason I write this post is after owning the house for six months we called with a question regarding an issue that came up with the house and they again were not knowledgeable on a solution and said with out hesitation call a lawyer. Well we called another realtor and he had an answer for us right away. We just wanted this stressful process of home buying to be enjoyable and it was made more stressful and frustrating. read more

The appartments arn't great they are very overpriced, have crappy insulation and super thin walls to the point where I can hear my neighbors all the time. They also have a huge amount of rules about what you can and can't do. If you are fine with doing a bunch of weird stuff and paying too much for what you are getting go for it but you could find better elsewhere. read more

Apartments are nice but lots of turnover with staff and a lot of confusion surrounding their leases. Have fun trying to get out of your lease early, by far one of the worst rental experiences I've had. Leasing offices are regularly understaffed and closed even when the hours say they're open. I'm glad I'm moving out and going with another rental company. Thankfully there are a lot of options in the Madison area. read more

As you can see from my tips below this is the worst management company I have ever been with. They are insulting, unprofessional, ignorant and overall unhelpful. They never return calls or answer their phones. It is awful. I really cannot say anymore about them with out getting upset. I write this because Pearl got paid to write her review. I hope no one has the experience that I had. And as Judy Reed the property management said, "you may want to look at other apartments in madison". That was said once I respectfully told them I was unhappy with their management. read more

I lived at Wexford Place on the westside of Madison. This was by far the best experience I've ever had with a staff and complex as a whole. The buildings and apartments are continually maintained and maintenance calls are always answered in a timely fashion. Communication is always fantastic and everyone is just pleasant to deal with. The apartments are great and there is good food, drink, and everything you need in the area. It is about a 15 minute drive from downtown though. I would highly recommend Wexford Place and T.R. McKenzie. read more

I had a horrible experience at "TR McKenzie" Lamplighter apartments and their property managers. (Not to be confused with "McKenzie properties" owned and operated by John McKenzie.) I was at Lamplighter for one full year and couldn't wait for the lease to run out. It was a very large apartment for a great price...but that merit was soon lost. Why? VERY OLD MUSTY CARPETS, ONLY ONE SMALL A/C UNIT IN LIVING ROOM, SILVERFISH IN APARTMENT, OLD STAINED TOILETS, FLOODED UNDERGROUND PARKING, LEAKING DRAINS IN PARKING GARAGE, LEAKING PIPES IN PARKING GARAGE. (And on a personal note, to top it off, I reported damage to the parking garage door and they adamantly accused me of causing it and threatened that if I do it again they will charge me!) Need I say more? If it was just the shape of apartments I would say just stay away from Lamplighter. However, the biggest issue in my opinion is poor TR McKenzie property management. Sorry Tim McKenzie. Look up my records and countless emails and you can judge for yourself. read more

I would never recommend these apartment complexes to anyone! They are money hungry and no longer care about their residents. These apartments complexes used to be owned by a guy that cared about everything..now...management has changed. They don't care what happens as long as they get their money. As you can see the reviews have changed dramatically. There have been reviews in like 2011 and they were great reviews, but now you see the 2013-2014 and it looks like it has done a 180. Don't live in any of these apartments. Thy don't work with you and could care less about anything. Ask them how many maintenance people they have went through in less than two years. Ask why the maintenance guy quit. Ask them how many managers they have been through in 7 years!! LOL!! They can't keep staff because they just don't care about their staff either. You would get more bang for you buck if you lived somewhere else. These apartments are cheaply made because they don't want to put any money in the apartments. They will find anything in the apartment to make you pay for the damage. Lets just say I know someone that lived there and they were charged because they had a NAIL HOLE!! Like seriously!?!? I lived there for quite some time and left after the owner passed away. I have several friends that still live there and I visit often! Lets just say I got out at a good time. These people will not work with you if you want o leave the apartments. They will try to make your life a living hell!! They will charge you four months rent to get out of your lease...lol...my relatives own apartment complexes and they laughed at these outrageous fees!! They up the rent money every year, at least $50-100 at a time. From the time I Iived there to what now they do is unreal. For instance..when i lived there, they charged $30 for an underground parking fee (not bad I would say). Now they charge $60!! Yes doubled it!! You also have to give them a 60 day notice in order to cancel your parking...what a joke! They won't let you turn your piolet light off in your fireplace when its summer... because they said that they have been having issues and its not meant for it to turn off. Really? How about they just want to see the money go down the drain!? If this review or the more recent reviews haven't changed your mind about these apartments...then I guess.....good luck! I'm glad I got out when I did read more

As a general rule, I never give 5 stars as I feel everything has both its pros and cons. Our experience, however, with TR McKenzie and the Stone Creek apartments was so superior, I am breaking my rule! We sold a relatively large home and needed to find a new temporary home immediately. We were fearful that an apartment setting was not going to have the "home" feeling we wanted to create for our young daughter. That being said, we decided to look at Stone /Shadow Creek because of its location, amenities, etc. Upon our first viewing, we were very impressed with the layout, size of rooms/bathroom, privacy of the balcony, cleanliness, modern appeal, as well as with the property manager. We actually put in our application the same day we viewed it. No other property including those "newer" properties in Greenway Station came close to the appeal and price. My husband and I could not have been happier with our decision. The environment catered to our family life wonderfully. My daughter could swim, walk to the park, and play all within seconds of our door. In addition, we were shocked that we never once heard another tenant! It was actually quieter than our old house in hearing neighbors! The management is without hesitation above par in all capacities! I would suggest Kayla and the team at TR McKenzie to anyone looking for a safe, modern, professionally managed "home"! read more

Worst apartment experience ever. The apts are loud and creaky. The office staff can be very unprofessional, with constant turnover, closed when it should be open. Expect tons of viewings your last months there, during weekends too. They would come in without notice and try to insinuate I wasn't informed because I was my husband's girlfriend. And do not expect to not get your whole deposit back. We were there for only a few months, yet charged for 5 hours of cleaning for 30 minutes of work, mostly for things that were bad before we moved in. No matter how clean you leave the place, they will bring in a cleaning crew to overcharge you. We were so glad when our sublease was over. read more
