I want to like this shop ... but after the way I was spoken to, I'm not sure if I do or not. I'll tell you the story and let you decide ... On this particular day I'd been scouting about Larne for a few hours photographing business exteriors, when I saw a shop I liked the look of I'd call in and check it out, so as I walked past Ballantine, the huge sale sign in the window caught my eye I thought, well why not. I walked in and was genuinely surprised to find see a number of stunning outfits. Not what you'd expect at all from outside but I'm quickly learning that appearances can be deceiving. I saw the match of a dress I bought donkeys ago from TK Maxx that I love, and didn't think I'd see anywhere else, but here was its sister hanging in front of me all pretty and what not. How happy was I? = Very! I decided to have a browse around and saw a number of really attractive pieces. A lot of it wasn't really my style, but others caught my eye. I was quietly looking at the jewellery (nothing special) when the shop keeper came up and enquired about my camera "Taking pictures are we?" he asked (rather intrusively) ... "Yes," I answered, "I hope that's not a problem..." I gave my usual Yelp spiel about reviewing local businesses, putting them on the online map, helping people recognise the shop front / logo and business location ... Well, it seemed that wasn't quite good enough for him ... "and what's this website, who do you work for, what do you do, what's your name etc (this was all spoken in a challenging, demeaning manner) Now I quite understand business owners being concerned about security but when someone's only trying to do you a favour and give you a bit of publicity then you'd think you could treat them a little nicer (considering I'm reviewing you and all that!!) Well, he left me quite flustered (which doesn't often happen) and I felt rather shocked that considering I was a customer he would treat me in this way. I forgot about the dress and left the shop. I don't appreciate being spoken to in that tone when we all have to make a living and I'm only doing my job. Well, he's lost a paying customer as far as I'm concerned. read more
