I don't remember how I stumbled across this little place, but I am glad I did. Since then, I have taken many friends there from Austria or from abroad and they are always enchanted by its charm.
You walk in and you are immediately faced with an overwhelming wall of chocolates, cakes and sweets. The place is tiny and you have to walk with some care not to bump things. The low roof, high cupboards and drapes DIY stapled to the walls make you feel like you stepped back into one of those cubby houses you built under the table when you were a kid; except that this time Walt Disney gave you a hand!
In the main room you find way more tables and then you could have imagine would possibly fit, which is good, because otherwise it would be hard to get a place. You are carefully ushered in by the host/cook/waiter/tea expert whom seems to understand but not speak a few languages and handed a menu with more teas than you knew existed. Once he takes your order he leaves you alone until its time to serve it. After that you wont see him again. Something that I, for one, appreciate.
Obviously you will want to try one of the teas, but if you want to make him angry order a coffee and watch him quietly lose his mind as he reminds you that you are in a tea house... I always do!
Cakes and other treats are great and so is the quiche if you are a little more hungry. The coffee, not so much, but after all it is a tea house.
Great for a date or to take someone you don't want to be seen with.
The rest I will let you discover for yourself... read more
