We used to go here all the time when we lived in the area until 10 years ago. It was my favorite Chinese Restaurant for 20+ years, and the family and staff were always so friendly and helpful. I learned about off-menu vegetables and specialty items from going here and I always felt like a special guest. However the food quality and service at this point seems to have declined. Everything was good enough to eat, but not great. The staff seemed tired and uninterested or even impatient with us - we were a party of 8 persons and seemed to be the best customers they had that night, it was early (5ish) and the restaurant was not full even when we left at 7. We were all disappointed in our experience and in the food. There are so many great choices for dining in Santa Barbara, unfortunately we don't plan to go back again next time we return to SB. I think if you are a local or in need of take out close by this might still be an option. read more

This place is such a cozy homey spot. The service is amazing , the staff is so sweet welcoming & friendly. Also a go to for a quick pick up on my lunch break. They never fail , the food is always delicious warm & filling. They have great combos I love to get the family combos when I want a little taste of everything and can't decide or to share with a friend. Haven't been to this neighborhood gem in a few years, since I radically changed my diet and dropped over 100 pounds. We went last night with out-of-town friends and the food was as good as it was when I first reviewed Szechuan 12 years ago. Susie took our order for the chicken and Chinese cucumber from the secret Chinese menu. The dish was the same level of deliciousness and after all these years, Susie remembered the details of our customization of this order (hold the green peps and add baby corn and shrooms). Also, enjoyed the sichian fish stew. The spareribs our friends ordered also looked moist and tender with a beautiful red glaze. Our friends gobbled them up!!! It was a top pic on Uber Eats so I thought I would give it a try. I started off with the potstickers that were fried to perfection. The dipping sauce that came with them was so good. I could drink it. Then the I had the orange chicken that was very crispy, lots of sauce, very sweet, but delicious. Unfortunately, the Kung Pao Chicken fell short. I just did not enjoy the flavor, it seemed off, but I don't know why. The fried rice was a big disappointment. It was just rice cooked in soy sauce. It definitely did not seem fried and did not have anything added to it. Finally, I wasn't quite sure what the milk tea was, but I thought I would give it a try. I feel like this place could've have been waaaay better if they weren't under staffed. The food was so greasy. I would say just as greasy as Panda Express. I give two stars only because my husband likes the wanton soup and dumplings he had, which out of everything we had I thought the dumpling was okay. Service was tired and worn. Chicken was greasy, the mixed chow mein had ONE shrimp in it! I felt bad for them like I felt so uncomfortable to ask for anything to even mention anything.. Which i get because I worked in the food business most of my life, but I always made the effort to treat guest as I would want to be treated. This place and service was not worth $100. I am very surprised by the low reviews. Excellent food! If you know good Szechuan food, there is no doubt you will love this place. Do not be fooled by the strip mall location. The Taiwanese popcorn chicken appetizer was some of the best we have had. A little more spice would be nice. The La Zi Ji Ding (on the chinese menu) also known as Chong Qing chicken is SO flavorful! Not recommended unless you enjoy having your plate snatched away from you before you've finished your meal. I've been here a few times and after trying several lunch specials I can attest to the authenticity in taste. This Chinese restaurant is the real deal and one of the few in Santa Barbara that serve up delicious Chinese food! The lunch specials here are great! Prices ranging from $9 and up but not over $12. All served with egg drop or hot n sour soup, fried rice, wontons, and an egg roll. My fave thus far has been the Kung Pao chicken and sweet n sour chicken. I can never finish my whole meal so I'm always happy that I have enough left over for later. I recently tried the Yangzhou fried rice which has BBQ pork, shrimp, eggs, and green onions. Loved it! I never really cared for hot n sour soup but the way it's prepared here has made me a fan! I also love the egg drop soup. Both are flavorful. The inside is very clean and welcoming and the staff has always been kind. Wait time on our food is reasonable so you won't be waiting too long.
