This year, there was a dramatic shift where the quality, competence, and ethics have severely declined. Last year our personal taxes were $465 and we started a small business but had no expenditures or income. We were advised to not file not our business in 2022 (for the 2021 tax season). This year, our personal tax bill was well over $700 and our small business taxes were $900. In addition to the $900 fee I was advised over the phone by Kelly, an accountant, that sense we didn't file in 2021, that we would need to file this year for 2021 with another charge of $100. Our business tax bill would be $1,000. For the business alone. However, when I got to the office to sign off on the tax bill we were charged even more. I refused to sign for these charges. I grabbed my well documented tax paperwork/documents for the past year and left without signing anything. " We waited four and a half hours after my grandma had passed before the hospice nurse arrived to pronounce her death. wish i could leave a lower score…read more i was sent there after fracturing my right femur (thigh bone). henry ford hospital would not release me until i agreed to go to rehab even though my dearest spouse already prepared everything at home. i'll start with a few good things: food was pretty tasty, especially for hospital-quality meals. many - NOT ALL - of the certified nursing assistant (CNA) staff - were INCREDIBLY kind, caring, and professional. CNA MINDY was OUTSTANDING. but, as to the advertised "serene" environment for recovery highlighted in their ads: NO. first night there, it sounded like the occupants across the hall were having a geriatric camp-out with LOUD laughter, singing, etc. until one or two in the morning. next morning, one of those "campers" went up and down the hallway calling out WAKEY-WAKEY at about 06:00. at a time when i should have been resting and healing, i was lucky if i slept an hour that night. next night, after almost no sleep, a different CNA woke me just before 05:00 "just in case" i needed to use the rest room. right then, i didn't need to, but the suggestion made me need to go. i called out to the aid who woke me but she just continued out the door and NO RESPONSE to the call button. i wasn't supposed to leave the bed without assistance but had no choice. my final night there, which, i will admit was a holiday with staffing likely difficult, there was SO much commotion that i had to telephone the director of nursing to request help for the TWO CNAs on duty for the entire section. the director might not have taken a late-night customer call seriously but i think she could hear all of the shouting and expletives in the background during my call. "serene" environment for recovery? NO. i could go on and on (and on and on) but i'll suffice to say that, after three days, i called my husband to get me the h#ll out of there. oh, and one further thing: over the past couple days, we've received multiple robo-calls from vista trying to convince us that we should consider them for our future care needs. NOT GOING TO HAPPEN. and, as said at the start of this: wish i could give vista a score less than one.

We made the mistake of trusting Elara Caring Hospice with our loved one who is a man with significant Developmental Disabilities. He lived in a Group Home. His mother was a part of his everyday life and has been for all his 50 years. We have too many complaints to list all here (and yes, we will file them with the state and Feds), but the most basic promise of Hospice Care is pain management, and Elara failed this repeatedly. They allowed his pain/comfort/seizure medications to run out on several occasions, leaving him to suffer for periods without any relief. An Elara nurse documented that no harm was done by this each time. He had a Developmental Disability, but he DID "feel pain." It is Ableist to claim otherwise. I assure you that withholding his comfort medication had adverse effects for him, just as it would for you. Their communication was consistently poor throughout the process. Our emails, calls, and texts went mainly unanswered. The height of their coldness occurred when he passed away in early December. An Elara nurse called his mother and said, 'Mr. X is deceased.' There was no empathy, no comfort--just a clinical statement of fact. Two days later, an Elara staff member called her asking if he needed more supplies. When they were reminded that he had already died, the agency went silent. There has been zero outreach to his mother--no condolences, no offer of grief support, and no one from Elara even checked in with her. I finally wrote them 11 days after his death and demanded they remove the rest of the controlled meds with his name on them from the Group Home as there is liability if they go missing. Elara Caring was not a family support system for us; in fact, they treated his grieving mother with total indifference. As she wrote in a narrative preparing the complaints: "No condolences, no acknowledgement of my son's life. Nothing. He is my son. His life mattered. He deserved mention. He deserved respect. And quite frankly, so do I." His life DID matter. His death matters. We cared but Elara Caring did not.
