December of last year (2022) my wife and I moved into our newly built Symphony home. Initially, we were excited to build with symphony, because there was a lot of flexibility and customization.
What we didn't understand at the time is it that comes with extremely overpriced upgrades. Later we found that they were many things not even offered to us because "we didn't ask for them". This makes things really tough when you don't know what to ask for.
After having lived in the home for three months, I can honestly say I'm extremely disappointed in the process, quality and and craftsmanship. So much so in fact, I recommend people look elsewhere.
You would be hard-pressed to find a single wall in my home plum from top to bottom. Non-loadbearing walls are 24 inch on center (well, they're supposed to be but every single stud is off by an inch or three) making the walls flimsy. Hammering a nail in to hang a picture shakes the entire wall. While doing some walk-throughs on my own, there were several areas where I had to add additional blocking to the frame work. Some was to increase the steadiness of the wall where, other because it wasn't nail properly.
They rushed for us to close with very little time to inspect ourselves, and after closing, when they got their money, passed us off their " warranty department". I've submitted several emails, none of which have been replied to except for an extreme emergency where our dishwasher was leaking. It's reached the point where I've nearly given up on coordinating with them and am now doing the work myself. Several of my neighbors have expressed the same frustration. There's a difference between the work passing inspection, and the work being done right.
You can honestly tell they didn't put any thought, time or care in the installation of anything but instead rushed and cut corners to move to the next job. Another example of this is where they messed up on some of the brick around the window. They came back and replace that section, but they used a different type of brick. Many people may not recognize it, but it's that lack of attention to detail that is abundant throughout my home.
I wish I could say I love the home. I wish I could recommend Symphony to others but I can't in good conscious do that. They say you get what you paid for... We paid over 1 million and I'd say the craftsmanship of our home puts it at around $600k. If you want a semi-custom home and don't care about the overall fit and finish, then go with Symphony. If you want a luxury home, spend the time to meet with multiple builders... I wish I would have. read more
