My daughter started school in the beginning of the pandemic and had to learn the basics from the computer screen. It was tough on all of us. Her grades were awful and it was heartbreaking watching her struggle with the material. We tried our best to teach her ourself but that was frustrating in both sides. I cannot say enough wonderful things about Sylvan Manteca/Ripon!! I was concerned my 9 year old had a learning disability. We had held her back a grade and even began homeschooling in fear she was falling through the cracks and in 3rd grade didn't even have a firm grip on basic addition. We visited and interviewed a number of tutoring services and the others felt impersonal or like their purpose was to get the student as far beyond their grade level as possible. That wouldn't help my daughter, she was struggling with the fundamentals! Meeting with the director, Sachin, immediately put my mind at ease. He assured me of Sylvan's confidence in their program and that they were accustomed to dealing with children with focus and comprehension issues like my daughter. In addition, the facility looks more like a children's section in a library- colorful, comfortable and inviting- as opposed to the college classroom I had seen in other facilities, cold and bland with rows and rows of desks so they could fit as many kids in as possible. My daughter started out overwhelmed and fearful; she hates school because it was so confusing and overwhelming. Now she leaps out of the car and confidently walks in, as do nearly all of the other students. She really enjoys her primary instructor, Ava, and most of the staff know each of the students names and greet them when they enter. They break off into groups of no more than 3 students per instructor and work on their own, personalized, lesson plan- NOT a one-size fits all. Sylvan is incredibly flexible and understands that we have jobs, lives and additional children to navigate and Miriam ensures all scheduling, billing, meetings (and so much more I'm sure) are current and up to date. She is an excellent communicator. My daughter went from absolutely hating math to randomly sharing math facts with her little sister, which absolutely warms my heart. We recently moved here from the Bay Area. It was hard finding supplemental education classes in the area. I'm so glad we found Sylvan Learning. He focused on reading and writing. After the monthly check-in reports and analyzing his work, I realized so many basic reading and writing techniques I assumed he learned in school weren't actually taught at school. Sylvan found those weak areas, targeted them, and gave him the knowledge to excel in school. He went from B's and C's to straight A's in a year. Sylvan' s flexible with scheduling. We'd have the set schedule, but if one of us had to travel for work and couldn't bring him in, Sylvan accommodated our schedule. There's also a zoom option. This especially came in handy when he wasn't feeling too good or had Covid. The groups consist of three students in an hour long class. Our son enjoyed taking classes at Sylvan, sometimes he'd come home with prizes for doing such a good job. The staff is friendly, caring, and knowledgeable. Although pricy, we love Sylvan! We were at a loss, we needed to get our 8th grader the help he needed and catch up from the previous year. Sylvan Learning Center has helped my stepson immensely! They helped him bring his math grade from an F to an A. This occurred over a half school year and summer session. He says math is now too easy and is helping other students in class. The staff has been wonderful and has kept his Dad and I informed on his progress. If I could leave a negative star I would. I signed my son up for the robotics program and math and reading tutoring for the summer. I met with the program director who told me that their center was the best. I wanted to give my son an extra educational boost going into first grade and I also wanted him to have fun. His second class at the robotics he complained to me about another kid in the class bullying him and trying to make him fall off his chair. This kid is a 6th grader and my son just finished kinder. Also keep in mind it is just my son and this other kid and the teacher. I was concerned and addressed my concerns about the bullying and was assured it wouldn't happen again and sure enough it did on the third and forth class. The forth class the older kid told my son to Shut up and was whispering about my son in the teachers ear. My son left that day crying and not wanting to return. I took the proper steps with Sylvan and was assured on the phone that they would waive the two week notice because my son was being bullied. I made an appointment to go in and speak with the program director. As I came into the appointment the program director ignored me. The other two women called me in to their offices. I was waiting for the program director but he ended up leaving and standing our appointment up. Worst they went back on their word. They tried to charge me for two weeks, and the full price of the program. Basically I would get no refund. I had to threaten them with a lawsuit to do the right thing. I said I would pay for the classes he took and nothing more. That they failed my son and that this boy traumatized him. I told them if they weren't going to refund my money I would be sitting in the programs instead of my son, but that I will not be taken advantage of for a situation which they were at fault. Long story short they refunded me what I asked for. And I went on my way. Find another summer program for your kids!!!! read more

Well, I have to say that I am really impressed with the teachers and staff here at Sylvan Manteca. I love that they are there to HELP us, and not just my child, but also my hubby and I. To my surprise, we were actually offered financial assistance, even though we don't EVER qualify for the typical financial assistance. I enrolled my kid in the beginning of summer to not only help maintain what he had just learned over the school year, but to improve and go above and beyond as well. After completing the assessment tests, we decided that we wanted to work on mainly reading and incorporate writing skills as well. Now that school has started back up, they've started on writing, and I can definitely see an improvement in not just the skill of writing, but his confidence and ability to do so all on his own!! I recently enrolled my daughter in Sylvan Learning Center. The staff was very welcoming and accommodating. I was able to take a tour of the facility, have my daughter evaluated and given her findings in one afternoon. I decided to sign my daughter up for math tutoring because she is struggling to keep up with the rest of her class. It was hard as a parent to see my child losing confidence in herself and in her ability to meet grade level standards. She was intimidated to do math homework each week and was not getting her work finished in the allowed time at school. She has been going to Sylvan for two months and I have already seen great improvement. I can see her confidence growing and the pride she has in herself when she is able to teach a math skill to her younger brother. She looks forward to going to class each week and always comes out with a smile.
