Hello, my name is Saint. I was adopted from Miami 12/23. I'm 6 months old & living my best life with my new furever family Unfortunately, not only did my new family find out I was deaf 5 days later, I was also diagnosed with Ocular FIP 2/25/24. Luckily my mom was able to connect with Global FIP group on Facebook for amazing support & to get started on treatment 2/26. As time is not on my side with this deadly disease. We were also very lucky to be welcomed with open loving arms to Sylvans Animal Clinic. I just had my 1st of 6 rounds of CBC. My mom was very anxious about this with me being deaf there's no way to soothe me, until we walked through the door. The Doctor, technicians & receptionists were absolutely wonderful. They were ALL SO NICE & treated us both with such tender loving care. My mom & I couldn't be more happier with their services. Not to mention, I really loved & appreciated the comfort kisses on my head & neck while my blood was being drawn. Thats how my mom comforts me So we wanted to leave a much deserved AWESOME review in hopes to remind other pet parents out there, to be gentle & extra kind to the ones that are caring for our fur babies. On a side note....We were absolutely disgusted & felt really bad to watch a grown man before us yelling & being so disrespectful to ALL the (female) staff that were helping him. YOU BULLY!!! I'm honestly not sure what happened to this vet. At first, they were great. Now (the last 2/3 years) it's like they can't be bothered. You call to make an appointment and they don't have a vet dr! What vet doesn't have a veterinarian! They are rude on the phone and the big thing for me, they misdiagnosed my dog and now he's dead. I have nothing but good things to say about Sylvan Animal Clinic. I took my dog Aspen there who we rescued from a neighbor who didn't take care of him that well. We go to Sylvan to get Aspen's yearly shots and the staff there are just incredible. They're friendly, kind and very sweet. They take their time with each appointment to really get to know your pet and make them feel comfortable. Aspen doesn't mind visiting and I enjoy the price point as well. One of the cheapest vets around. I drive all the way from RI just because these guys are so great. We may be changing vets soon just because of our location, but we love Sylvan Animal Clinic and we recommend it to all of our family and friends. read more

I recently moved from Texas to Mass and was nervous about finding a vet for my two cats, Penelo and Maylie. my experience was great and the vet was very friendly. My girls are very timid but seemed to like this vet and the assistant. The prices were reasonable (MUCH MUCH better than Texas!) I get a little paranoid about Maylie. She had some problems as a kitten and had a paternal cat with kidney disease. The vet reassured me that Maylie was fine in all the areas I was worried in and if I wanted to I was welcome to get blood work done to make sure I could but she didn't think it was needed. - I tell you this because she could have easily seen my nervousness and milked me for all I was worth in money for tests but she did not. They seem very genuine. I only did not give them the last star because the facility does not have an available separate seating area for cats and dogs. There was a very large dog sitting next to my girls, and though the dog was nice, my girls were still very freighted and upset. read more

Places like Sylvan disgust me. Do yourself a favor and don't bring your dog here. I took my dog, Chunk, here for his yearly vaccines. I got Chunk from a shelter in California in February of last year and he has been well taken care of with no vet visits since April of last year. I found Sylvan online and really liked how their site said that the money that the clinic makes goes towards the rescue. Well it should have said that in order to do that they do unnecessary testing and charge you for things that they don't actually do. They charged me $45 for an exam that they didn't do. The gave Chunk his rabies, bortadella, and distemper.... that was it. At one point they looked at his teeth and said that I should get them scaled. They also decided to give him a heartworm/ lyme disease test even after I protested and said that he didn't need one since I live in NYC and ticks aren't an issue. He has also been on Trifexis since I got him so that wasn't an issue either. It was just an extra $40 that they could add on. All in all, they charged me $87 for an exam, blood disposal, and heartworm test that they didn't actually perform or I didn't want. What I actually went there for cost $56. So way to go for making money for the shelter by ripping people off. read more

If anyone ever goes to the Faxon Animal Care & Adoption Center in Fall River, you get discounted vet service at the attached Sylvan Animal Clinic for the life of the animal. Do not take advantage of these services. Let me preface this with Faxon Animal Care is a wonderful institution and the animals there are well loved and well cared for. Sylvan is less caring. They want you in and out and are more concerned with meeting numbers and getting their appointments done than the actual animal itself. Today, we had to bring our cat Juju to Sylvan. He's a Faxon cat who was well loved over there before we got him. First, we didn't know he was due for an appointment until we called them because it had been awhile. They're supposed to send out mailers when he's due but we never got one. Anyone who has ever met Juju can vouch that he's a sweet social cat who can be rambunctious at times. He's also a 18lbs all muscle giant, earning him the nickname Monster (also for his penchant for sleeping in closets and hiding under the bed and grabbing feet). So we bring him over to Sylvan. He's upset and giving us pathetic mews but he's fine. Then we're told they're running behind and he had to sit in his carrier for 30 minutes. He was freaked out by all the noises and smells, but we did our best to comfort him. Finally we get called in and they used his real name and then his name at the shelter, Panser (that's not a typo). Okay fine, you want to confirm he's the same cat you remember and his records are straight. Great. Then they kept calling him by his shelter name, even though he hasn't been called that in three years. Oh sure they thought his 'new' name was adorable but they didn't use it. We get him in and ask the vet about how he's been throwing up recently (not hairballs). We told her how it started after we put him on new wet and dry food and we mentioned we switched him over to a brand that didn't have carrageenan. Apparently carrageenan is a pet food additive that can upset cats stomachs. It's all over the web but I might have well been speaking in tongues to her. She told me how she had never heard of this substance before but "some cats throw up more than others." Yet, every reputable source (and countless less than reputable ones) we find online says that a cat throwing up is not normal. She mentioned that we should monitor him, which is what we've been doing. We came to her for an expert opinion, but they were in short supply. Next came the examination. Juju was let out of the cage and let to sniff around for all of a minute before they grabbed him by the scruff of his neck and hauled him up to the examination table. Juju is a sweet cat but he's not a docile one. After being trapped in a cage for the better part of an hour and immediately grabbed by the scruff of his neck and hauled up to a table, Juju did what any respectable frightened animal would do when backed into a corner and grappled: he lashed out. First it was just hissing and spitting. Then he would wrestle out of their grip (something he's very adept at) and swatted at them. They weren't mean swats, they were defensive ones. Juju was very clearly stating "Get away from me." So what did they do? They grabbed heavy duty gloves and a towel and tried to bind him up in that. What did Juju do when they cornered him in the small room and tried to put him in a towel? He got on his back, yelled, screamed, and flailed with claws out. He only did this when they came at him with the towel and gloves. Soon as they stopped, he was content to stay in his corner. We were eventually asked to leave the room in case Juju tried to run up one of us. I elected to stay because Juju is calmer around me. Last time we took him, he was allowed to acclimate to the room for 15 minutes before they tried to grab him. When they grabbed him, he hissed and spit but as soon as I put my hand on him, he was fine. He begrudgingly let them give him a shot. This time he was allowed no time so I offered to take their gloves and pick up Juju myself. I believed, and still do, that I would have been able to grab Juju and as pissed as he would have been, he would have let me. They adamantly said no. Apparently, there was a liability issue, even though I stated I was willing to take any injuries the cat gave me. I want to say that I've grown up with cats. My parents have had more cats than I can count. They've all had varying temperaments and personalities. In all of those years of going with them to the vet, their vet has NEVER ONCE grabbed a cat by the scruff of the neck nor hauled them to the examination table. On top of that, the owner has always been allowed to hold their animal while they examined them and gave them shots. Apparently at Sylvan, covering their rear comes before treating and understanding the animal. Eventually, I submitted to letting them net him and I had to leave the room. Slyvan Animal Clinic has been helping my family take care of our critters for almost a decade now and I recommend them highly. We have taken old cats, young cats, and dogs to their center and have received excellent care. All of the vets there ars spectacular and their assistants equally so. Only reason they've lost a star is because they can't do it all. When a cat had heart failure we had to start taking him to another clinic because they didn't have the right technology in-house to deal with his issues. Otherwise, Slyvan is excellent and very affordable. We adopted a pair of kittens from the attached "Faxon Animal Rescue League" two summers ago (one of whom is batting my face with his paw for attention as I type this) and they have helped us give them the healthy, happy lives they deserve. read more

On Friday, August 4, 2017 we took our dog, Rocky, to Sylvan Animal Clinic because he was constantly whining, scratching his ear, and rubbing his head against the floor. The vet at Sylvan Animal Clinic said it looks like there's something in his ear, but they did not clean it or treat it. It cost us $220 for him to be seen, have blood work, and have his eye treated. We figured it would take time for the anti inflammatory they prescribed to start working, but throughout the weekend he continued to cry in pain and his cries kept getting louder, so on Monday, August 7, 2017, we took Rocky to Vitality Veterinary Services as soon as they opened. The Director at Sylvan Animal Clinic said he spoke with his vet and their vet tech and they both said that Gary was not in the room with Trisha and Rocky at the time of the visit on, Friday, August 4, 2017. That is false. He goes to every vet appointment and goes in the room everytime. The only time we were not in the room with Rocky is when they brought him back to a different room to have his blood drawn. The director also stated that the vet said that there was no mention of Rocky's ear. Which is also false. Before the vet had even entered the room, Trisha explained to the vet tech that Rocky was scratching at his ears, rubbing his eyes against the floor, and continuously whined. When the vet examined Rocky, she stated that he has dry eye and looked in his ears and said that there's something in his ears. At that point the vet tech said yes she (as in Trisha, the dog's owner) had mentioned he was scratching at his ears. After a complaint was made on, Monday, August 7, 2017, the vet at Sylvan Animal Clinic, called Gary back and said that she was more focused on Rocky's eye than she was on his ear because she felt that was the main concern. When the director called back on Monday, August 21, he said he looked into the situation and the vet and their vet tech had given a different story than us (the clients), he said he would not rebate us anything. They felt we should have brought Rocky back to them to be seen for a "sick" visit. Why would we do that when he was still crying out in pain over the weekend and wasn't treated properly for it? We brought Rocky to Vitality Veterinary Services on Monday, August 7, as soon as they opened at 8am. Vitality showed outstanding service and as soon as they looked in his ears they took action and starting removing all the debri. All this debri DID NOT happen over the weekend and THIS is what was causing Rocky to be in so much pain. Sylvan Animal Clinic should be ashamed for letting one of their patients leave in that condition. The fact that the staff lied about what happened is shocking to us because we always thought they were a decent vet. Going forward we DO NOT recommend Sylvan Animal Clinic to any of our family and friends, especially after we were indirectly called liars by the director and staff saying that Gary was not present in the room and there was no mention of Rocky's ear issues. They take the word over their staff than over their clients. My dogs are my world and I expect when I take them to the vets that they would provide exceptional service and treat them with the best care. read more

Very nice people but there prices are the same as if you went to a 5 star vet.they are suppose to be an animal shelter hospital and cheaper than vets so people can afford treatment for there animal but they are not!!! They also insist on doing blood tests for heart worms when there is no need to cause my dogs have been on the heart worm pills since they were born. I have two dogs and they bring them in at the same time but charge me for two visits when all along they would only charge for one. They would not give my doges the perscription so I could get there heart worm pills. I now go to pet partners were they are honest and do not do silly tests for no reason!! read more

I have been bringing my dachshund to Sylvan for the past two years. The staff is super helpful and they go out of their way to make you and your pet feel comfortable. They always take the time to explain procedures with you and give excellent advice without being condescending or rude. My dog was losing fur due to stress and Dr. M. gave me different natural treatment options and product recommendations for shampoos, probiotics, food, etc. I have recommended Sylvan to my friends and will continue to do so. read more

Sylvan is a great place that has your pets health and welfare as their main concern. They are very cheap price-wise and very professional and courteous. Anyone who thinks Sylvan is pricey shouldn't be a pet owner because you aren't taking you're pet to any vets at all, and have no point reference. Pets require a lot of time money and care, and I found my new vet. Dr. Jill Robertson is great at her profession, she actually listens to the pets' owners concerns no matter how inane , my wife had me bring a list of things, and Dr. Jill listened and inquired about all of them. My dog has had an ear infection for 3 years and they listened to me about how all other vets prescribed washes and useless stuff, and she gave me a cream that had steroid and antibacterial medication, and he has been fine ever since. If you are looking for a new vet, and looking to save money, then please give Sylvan a try. read more

Pet Owners Beware!!! I started bringing my dog to Sylvan about 5 years ago and in that time I have met some really nice people who work there but the experiences that I have gone through with them over the past year make me worry for every other animal that is treated there. My dog suffers from undetermined allergies and after years of the Vets at Sylvan not being to do anything for her I was able to see Dr. Juette that works there and she tried a relatively experimental medication on my dog. It began to improve her skin problem almost immediately. Dr. Juette asked that I bring her in for routine blood work to insure that the medication was not doing her any harm. They checked her blood and the results showed that the medication was not affecting her in any negative ways. When it was time for Dr. Juette to refill my dog's prescription she refused to do so until they rechecked her blood work. The blood work they require is very expensive for someone who only works part-time so when I asked for another week or 2 to have her blood work done AGAIN Dr. Juette refused to release my dog's medication and had no problem making me fully aware of how ill she could become by abruptly stopping that medicine. There was absolutely no evidence that the medication was doing her any harm but plenty of evidence that the medication had improved not just her allergies but her quality of life. I truly feel that she punished my dog in order to punish me. The worst of the worst experience that I had at Sylvan was when I brought my dog in to have her eyes checked and after 3 Veterinarians had examined her they all agreed that her eye needed to be removed immediately. I made an appointment with a full service vet 2 days after all of the Vets at Sylvan told me her eye needed to be removed immediately. Of course I was heartbroken and completely stressed as to where the money for the surgery would come from. When we arrived at the full service animal hospital in Portsmouth, RI not only was I surprised at the friendly and warm staff but after my dog was examined by Dr,Bert, who owns the Mt. Hope Animal Hospital, turned to turned to me and told me that there was absolutely no reason to remove my dog's eye!!! How can 3 Veterinarians all looking at the same dog all be so unbelievably wrong??? How could all 3 veterinarians put a devoted pet owner through such an ordeal without knowing at all what they were talking about??? I urge all pet owners to seek veterinarian care from any facility except this one. read more
