They've taken care of my dogs, cats, and even pet rats. They're compassionate and know what they're doing.

This vet is very professional and honest, especially in emergency situations…read more I took one of my dogs to a different emergency vet at first (called ahead) then when we arrived 30 minutes later, they were at capacity and turned us away. I frantically tried figuring out another place to go which is difficult to do on a Sunday because the majority of veterinary centers are closed. After scrolling on my phone for what seemed like forever I found River Run Animal hospital which is a primary vet with a urgent care unit. I gave them a call and explained the situation. I was lucky enough that they did make an appointment and we got the last urgent care appointment for the day, which is great because it was about a 40 minute drive. We had a little bit of time before heading that way for our appointment so we headed home. We were home for less than an hour when Maggie's vomiting started to contain some blood. I cleaned it and her up as best as I could so my other dog wouldn't get in it and left to head to this appointment. We arrived 35 minutes early for our appointment. By the time we got there her body temperature was dropping, she was turning purple, and very lethargic. Water was always available to her all day but when she drank some she couldn't keep it down and she ultimately stopped trying. They took her to the back immediately and did a chest X-ray since I informed them she has a heart condition and kidney condition. They place her in a kennel that constantly blew oxygen in to help her breathe. They informed me that from the X-ray her heart is no longer heart shaped but circle shaped and there is a tons of fluid surrounding it. The veterinarian came right out and stated (without me asking) she is in pain and suffering right now, it is probably the time to consider to let her go. This straight forwardness is something my husband and I appreciate although it broke our hearts to hear those words in reference to our 6 year old baby girl. The veterinarian also said that another option would be to transfer her somewhere where she will be in an oxygen ventilated kennel for the night to be seen by a cardiologist the next day, however, the veterinarian also stated the clinically the odds of her making it through the night were extremely low. After some tears and calling my husband to come to the vet, we decided that as much as we want to keep her with us it was better for her to say goodbye. They brought her to us wrapped up in a fuzzy blanket like she loves and we spent 15 minutes with her telling her how much we love her and how sorry we are before they gave her the injection. They allowed us to make the decision whether we stayed with her during the injection or not. We stayed and witnessed her last breath. The veterinarian was very informative of what to expect before and during the injection process. They allowed and encouraged us to grieve where we found fit best for us and as long as we needed even after she was clinically gone. We decided to have her cremated and chose a beautiful urn with a picture frame. Not that the price mattered for us, the cost for the cremation and urn wasn't too bad. Thank you Dr. Adwell and team for your professionalism, and loving caring heart. I only wish you had been able to get to know Maggie before this.

Both Dr. Shelley and Dr. Moon did a full body scan and presented our options and walked me through the whole process, answering my endless questions and provided amazing follow up. The surgery was scheduled quickly and successful, and Dr. Shelley spoke with me after hours when we received the results (all good thankfully!) All of the vet techs are so so so pleasant, helpful, and clearly care about the pets in their care. I had to bring my boy back in for a check today and they all remembered him and came over to say hi - I've only been coming here two and a half months! They really make you feel like your pet is their family. Comparatively, the cost for both surgery and regular visits has been very fair. I'm super grateful for this team at Midlothian animal clinic and all they've done for Zeke & I!

Before even entering the room, we overheard Dr. Rhoades asking a vet tech why she 'had' to see the German Shepherd, clearly expressing a personal bias or fear regarding the breed. Once she entered, she remained in the far corner of the room and didn't approach our dog instead opting to throw treats from a distance. Our dog was completely calm--no barking, growling, or aggression of any kind. To have a veterinarian act visibly frightened and dismissive of a patient based solely on breed is unacceptable. If a provider is unable to professionally handle specific breeds, they should not be seeing them. I would not recommend Dr. Rhoades to anyone, especially those with Shepherd mixes.

Neither dog got an exam. They gave them there influenza shot and sent us on our way. Boarding... when we dropped off we had concerns. We asked to see the kennel where the dogs were kept and it wasn't very nice. There was active animal pee on the ground and extremely loud. None of the animals were settled. Whatsoever. The blankets they give dogs are paper thin. Thank goodness we brought our own. On the 3rd day of our dogs getting boarded we get a call that they have run out of food. How is that possible if I packed 12 bags for 5 days and they eat once a day. I packed for 1 extra day just in case. The workers never read the instructions and did whatever they wanted. They fed them twice a day and they weren't even eating. No call nothing. Until they ran out. They offered purina- which my dogs can not eat. They did go out and buy their dog food from tractor supply. But after such the manager acted as if I should be grateful for such a doing. The following morning I get another phone call. Miraculously one of my dogs has a cut under her eye and she needs emergency medical attention but no vets are in but I can pay for them to take her to an emergency vet. They tried to blame my other dog which is insulting enough. We cut our trip short and had a friend go get our dogs out of this place that day. Not only that. I drove my dogs 3 hours to the university (Virginia Tech) to have them evaluated and the one dog professional stitched up by the surgical team to also be told it was not from another dog. Do not board your dogs here.

When I called at the end of that day because I had not heard back. I was told the results had come back, but the vet may not have seen them and they would get back with me the next day. The next morning, I received an email for a prescription cat food before the email with the test results, which were not good and my cat had deteriorated immensely since their visit. I called and left a message for the vet to call me. She did not call until the next morning, at which time I informed her we had to put our cat down. (We were fortunate enough to find an at home vet who was able to come out the same afternoon). I was so disappointed with the lack of response from the Vet on an animal who was obviously very sick. The only follow up since that time has been 2 emails reminding me my prescription was still ready to order. I have asked them twice now to take me off the mailing list. Hopefully , we will not receive other reminders for this prescription.
