We had an excellent stay at Sycamore springs. It is a little hike of the interstate, but not far…read moreoff of hwy36. It was remote and very well kept! Nice clean shower house and quiet neighbors. The tent camping spaces even have electricity. Very affordable!! Beautiful scenery. Historical markers, like the old train depot. They have a skating rink and hotel/resort also; but we only stayed in the campground. Firewood is available for purchase. We checked in and payed online so we were able to go straight to our site and set up, never saw anyone. Highly recommend and would stay again. Be sure to follow the direction instructions provided on the website and booking info, to stay on blacktop roads. Otherwise it's a lot of long dirt roads. Nearest town is just a few miles away for groceries.

This is my second and last night at Sycamore Springs. I very much like the park but the shower…read morehouse is so dirty and I can't stand going in there again and so used Blanca's shower for the second day in a row. It will be in my nightmares. The campground is beautiful, even if the sites a really cheek by jowl. They cater to children and family groups and have plenty for them to do, including a real life wood floor roller skater rink. They have let their large pool fall into ruin, which is unfortunate. They have a hotel on the site and there are rooms but I would shudder to stay in the place. It sits nearly on top of three mineral springs (the place has been famous since the 1880s for "taking the water." It would be damp and dank. I love the location of course, but would do major refitting and repair of the foundation and the concrete work and stonework. Major gardening would have to be done and the whole structure would need to have some kind of central dehumidification system. It reminded me of Harper's Ferry. So much water everywhere and lots of mold and dankness. I heard many barred owls last night, Pony Creek is right behind me. Lots of large trees and green grass. And some loud, large family parties of course. There is a wedding going on in one of the structures on the property called "the barn." They also had a rail depot moved here and also a white clapboard church. There are no laundry facilities so I had to go into town to use the coin laundry. I think they've figured out who their clientele really is--family groups who will just stay one or two nights, and then go. There is no real effort to entice long-stay or semi-permanent campers, which is what a KOA would very much try to do. Unfortunately a large family group talked loud and vulgar until 1 AM when a rain shower drove them inside. Site #46, you know who you are. One of their group was in a pop up trailer next to me and the man and woman, both drinking about a case of beer between them bawled and smoked and cursed. The cursing and drunken laughter got louder when they went to join the larger group next door to them. How the utterance "Gets smacked in the fuckin' dentures every time" is a punchline to a joke or the high point of a story, I have no idea. I had no cell phone signal and the owners do not live on site. I had no way to call anyone and was not about to take on a large group of drunks on my own. Damned if they didn't start up again at 7:30 AM with my "couple" drinking beers and talking loud. The woman bawled a few unintelligible questions at me and I smiled and said nothing. Got out of there as fast as I could.
