My dog is reactive and can't be around many other dogs or too many new people at a time and the boarder Briana was a perfect match for Chewie. The organizer April is incredible with dogs, very smart and skilled in terms of behaviour and positive reinforcement for dogs, and has helped me learn so much about my dog over the past few months. Highly recommend for dog boarding and general dog wisdom and companionship!

While Sally is a…read moresweetheart inside the house, she's always looking for trouble outside, and can be especially reactive with other dogs. I need to know that the person who cares for my dog can handle my lil firecracker and prevent trouble from happening. My good friend who lives across the street is such a person, but more than a couple of days of dogsitting is kind of an imposition for a friend. I definitely did not want to send my large, energetic dog to a kennel (aka doggy jail). Bronte Pet Services to the rescue! I found them through a link on the website of the also-awesome Dizine Canine training centre. These wonderful people, April and Lauren and their team of petsitters, specialize in and even enjoy working with challenging dogs. They are also involved with HugABull rescue and are well-trained and experienced in reactive dog handling. We exchanged a few emails, and a couple of days before the trip, April, who would be sitting for us (the sitter she initially matched us with had to cancel) and another Lauren, who would providing some relief, came over for a home visit and to get the keys and contracts, etc. Sally loved them right away (cookies!), and when we left for the trip, we felt assured she - and the house - was in good hands. Knowing my dog, I had some lingering worries, but the first progress report email dispelled them completely. Throughout the trip, April sent us emails and pictures regularly to update us on how things were going. They would generally stay overnight and give her morning and evening walks and feeding. I'm also super happy with all extras April brought to the arrangement. She brought over her own doggy puzzle toys for Sally to solve to get her dinner - and who doesn't like to be told their dog is smart enough to solve the hardest ones with ease? She also introduced us to using a body halter, rather than the head halter I had been using, and even lent me one to try out after we got back. And she definitely wore my dog out with lots of interesting walks and "urban agility" exercises in the park nearby. They take care of all kinds of pets, but I love that they love taking care of even the more challenging (difficult, smart, energetic) animals. And I love that, since finding Bronte Pet Services, I feel like maybe I can now take a vacation once in a while!

She had met our dogs, they were both medium sized, and not badly behaved, but as rescues not perfect either. Long story short, we got a call three days before the end of our holiday telling us that our dogs had been hit by a car while in her care. One died, the other required months of surgeries, treatments etc and to this day has visible scars. Maureen claimed that our dogs were uncontrollable when our 12 year old could manage them just fine. And if so uncotrollable, why was she walking them together down a busy street. In short, she let go of both leashes so the dogs ran into traffic getting hit by a car. At the time, she was employed by PetVacay who looked after the thousands of dollars of expenses including cremation, surgeries and months of medications. Pet Vacay handled their end respectably. Maureen was let go from PetVacay and when she did talk through them to us, she accepted no responsibility for the accident, instead blaming the dogs. As she is now self employed, I urge you at very least to ensure that she has the insurance to cover any "what ifs". At best, reconsider trusting her with your beloved pets. She essentially killed our dog and i was completely shocked today to see her operating as her own business which i note she did open less than two weeks after the death of our dog. Please please learn from our experience.

She spent time during our appointment not only answering questions, but sharing her knowledge and educating me on monitoring Casey's health as she ages. While she's still super active now, seeing my buddy grow older still breaks my heart...Feeling like I've found a vet I can rely on, communicate with, and trust is a huge comfort. Casey not only loves the vet, she loves the groomer! Would definitely recommend them as well. They're always happy to see her, are so gentle and patient with her, and communicate really well with both of us. **Updated review for June 13, 2023: Unfortunately, the vets we came to love have left PAWS. The experience we've had with the newest permanent vet was a bit unsettling and frustrating, but they still have one or two on staff (I believe they're there 2 days a week) that seem to be very kind and gentle. The techs are still wonderful and I'm trying to maintain continuity of care for Casey as she is a senior now, but I'm not sure where this leaves us long-term if I need a vet for another pet down the road.
