I will never "do business" with that practice again. They are terrible at communications and unethical in their treatment of a patient (me).  Although Lisa Hammargren-Kuykendall is amazing, the rest of the support team (notably Christina) is incompetent and uncaring. Ugh. Awful experience. Don't run out of medicine. They don't care. Don't try to adjust your medication. They don't care. Don't request support (repeatedly) via email, text and phone messages: THEY DON'T CARE. They don't reply, they don't call back. After working with Swift Institute for months I'd have to say they are the worst medical provider EVER!!! you will NEVER SEE THE SAME DR. TWICE! Most of the time it's an APRN that doesn't have a clue what they are doing!! When I tried to explain what my problems were they acted like it wasn't a big deal. I also complained about my neck, that was quickly dismissed by the APRN, " we can't talk about your neck because you never mentioned it before." Isn't that why I am here? To figure how my horrifying pain?! They missed diagnosed my hand problem, the worst is I was told that I met my deductible, therefore, have NO copays. I have received every single one of those bills, somehow I am responsible for? They charged me for everything!!! EVEN my last physical therapy appointment, I paid cash $140 because I lost my insurance. They only care about money! Torrey, the PT guy that treated me for my shoulder will make you feel like a liar, my pain wasn't serious enough for his liking and continued to make faces at me when I explained the symptoms. It was very uncomfortable. The front desk staff is not any better! I had two follow-ups after my shoulder surgery. which I got in right away. My second hand follow-up was right after so I checked in and waited for about 40-45 mins before I went back to the desk to ask if I was being seen? The lady said they cancelled my appointment because I didn't have insurance. NO one told me the whole 45 mins while I was waiting! Swift Institute is incompetent, no communication, no empathy, they don't care about their patients at all! Don't make the same mistake I did. Wonderful care of son. The girl in the front was nice but talking about too many personal things to every single person that came in. It was humorous to me, but a bit much. However, everyone else was amazing. They were thorough, caring, kind etc. We saw Bruce and Vic was our nurse. My first experience with the Swift Institute and it was a poor experience sadly. I had waited months to see a pain management doctor for my lower back pain, from a bad fall from a of flight stairs, and he barely spent 10 minutes listening to me. Everything felt rushed, he was grumpy / annoyed, and it felt like a burden to the doctor and his medical assistant explaining my pain or asking questions. I was not looking for immediate pain medications or having a nerve block on my first appointment as the doctor suggested, instead I was hoping to have help managing my symptoms from my injuries through a natural approach first, if possible, like gentle exercises or helpful therapy's since I've never had a pain or spine problems before. And why would I have a nerve block without MRI's? Not a good feeling overall being pushed aside! After my first visit, I was billed $600+ for the first appointment for 10 minutes with the doctor as a new patient through my insurance. Highway robbery! Requesting MRI's was also a terrible experience. Swift does not care, nor do they follow up, or advocate for you! My medical insurance denied my MRI's as "medically unnecessary" because they failed to include the doctor notes, supposedly. I had called and left numerous urgent messages since it was time sensitive to petition to my insurance and they never responded to me nor my insurance in a timely manner within the 3 day window to counter. Swift did NOTHING! Completely unprofessional and unethical. Ultimately I will have to pay the $1,500+ out-of-pocket expenses for my two MRIs. This is truly disturbing. I've never been so poorly mistreated at a medical office. Now I'm taking my business elsewhere! The only positive, (the one star in this review), the office building upstairs has beautiful views of the mountains in the waiting area and that's the only thing going for them! Otherwise, don't go here! The other reviews on here chime-in something is rotten with the Swift Institute! These doctors and medical assistants are clearly unhappy working here. I always thought I was getting great care from Dr. McDermott, but when the pain kept coming back I seeked a second opinion only to find out I had been misdiagnosed the past 5 years and that none of the treatments performed surgeries, injections, ablations, were going to make a difference they were only bandages to cover up the real issues. Extremely disappointed in a Dr. that I trusted to help me. When a simple X-ray showed the real damage and I now have a path forward for my pain and hopefully will have a better quality of life. read more

I had a great experience at Swift Urgent Care for a pinched nerve in my neck, so maybe my expectations were too high for Spine Nevada...we definitely had a communication problem. I've been going to physical therapy for low back pain for a while and my physical therapist thought it would be good to get some xrays to hopefully know a little more about the cause. I called Spine Nevada and the person on the phone was super rude to me. OK. Maybe she was having a bad day. Anyway, she angrily says I need a referral from my doctor so I got one of those. I *thought* for the xrays I needed. I didn't learn til the end of my visit that nope, no xrays at that visit. Not only did I have to pay a big copay for a superficial exam to be told nothing I didn't already know, but they couldn't even SCHEDULE the xrays I needed. They could make me an appointment for another expensive copay followup visit, but not the xrays - which was very hard to understand. But finally I got it. The scheduler told me that if I didn't get a call back to schedule the xrays in a week and a half(!!) to call her back and make sure that I wasn't forgotten. Um. That's a long time - just to be able to schedule the appointment. Here we are at a week and a half and you guessed it - no call. This place seems like a major cash grab operation that is not actually interested in patient care. Or maybe just not my care, since I likely do not need surgery. I won't be going back. The sunny waiting room was the best part of my visit. read more

Before moving to Reno I had two back surgeries in the Washington D.C. Area, so I have experience with Neurosurgeons. Dr. Lynch is running a business - not a medical practice. It's unfortunate because his excellent reputation as a Neurosurgeon is diminished by the Bureaucracy and Administrative incompetence of his business and he does not appear to care. After 7 months of waiting and two appointments where I had to meet with a P.A. instead - I still have not met Dr. Lynch. I feel like I have been the victim of a bait and switch. read more

My initial review was positive untill I inquired about the ballance on my statement. I was told the item was for part of the procedure that insurance would not cover. At my initial visit I was told the cost of my treatment would be covered by my insurance. I brought this up with management and billing, however the response was "it was written in the fine print of the release you signed". My advice to anyone using thier services is be very careful before agreeing to any treatment. They are not up front with the billing process, only that they will try and bill your insurance. I tried to do the right thing and make payments on the ballance but they sent it to collections. Stay away from this place if possible. read more

Spine Nevada has changed to Swift Institute. I have seen the quality of care become embarrassing. A Dr. actually told me he could do my trigger point shots but wouldn't make much money!! Another less the a P.A. told me my doctor was not qualified to read the type of X-Ray I had. When it as Spine Nevada ( I live on disability) they were so kind. They gave me a hardship with 0 payments for over 8 yrs. each application lasted one year. Now the approvals last for 6 months ( like someone on SSDI is going to get an increase more than once a year). Now Swift is charging me a small co-pay but more depending on what you have done. My epidurals shots used to take about 25 minutes and the doctor listened to your concerns. My last 2 epidurals were 15 minutes only because I had concerns about having them so close together. These people were the most rude and incompetent people I have ever dealt with in an possessively "professional" setting. I called multiples and left my name, phone number, date of birth, and as many details as possible and I was NEVER CALLED BACK. I started the process in January of 2023 with an X-ray and then was scheduled for an MRI. My insurance denied the doctors recommendation for an MRI, so I had to pay out of pocket. The insurance said they would approve the MRI if the doctor had a "peer to peer" conversation with my insurer. I asked for month for the doctor to do so and he never did. I called at least 10 times and got jerked around by every person I spoke to, so I eventually paid out of pocket in July 2023. The best part is I was supposed to be contacted 3-5 business days after the appointment and did not hear anything, so I eventually called the office 6 business days after the appointment and have not heard anything. If this was my institution, I would be completely embarrassed an frankly terminated. This is very sad. If this company's intent is to take care of somebody, they literally failed entirely at their responsibility. Again, I have never been contacted via email, phone, test, and had to take the complete onus personally to proactively find any "so called" results. As for the actual appointment, I was not escorted out of the office, I was never given a time or phone number to call to follow up with the results and the front desk lady had a lot of attitude and said, "you better be nice to the technicians," with an extremely snarky and rude demeanor. I will do everything in my power to go out of my way to never support this institution ever again. read more

I saw Dr. Nair there and he diagnosed me previously in 2024 that I had arthrithis in my shoulder. I have had previous surgery knowing what a torn labrum felt like. I went back in 2025 and he did a quick test and said oh you need another MRI, conclusion is I have two torn labrums. I had asked to be switched to Dr. Malcarney because she specializes in shoulders. They made me an appt I took off work and came to the appt to find out the cancelled it and did NOT call me to tell me this. I spoke to the surgery schedule Joy and she assured me she would call back within a week or so and even gave me her card. No CALLS it was 2 1/2 weeks so i called. They put me through to Dr. Nair's assistant who then tells me she called me and said that Dr. Malcarney is not taking me as a patient. I said what no one has called me I have checked my phone and no calls have come to me. She said well I called you and I said that is a LIE. She then said I have to go and hung up. I called back and used the extension for Joy the surgery scheduler, she answered and waslike why are you calling? I said because you told me you would call me back (my husband was there to witness) her response was I said someone would call you. I said well obviously no one has it has been 2 1/2 weeks so why would I call if someone told me this? I said what is going on there I feel like you are all trying to dig your way out of a hole. I was very upset and she said I am sorry I will have a manager call you back. Another week goes by and I get another call from Dr. Malcarney's scheduler to schedule me for an appt. I said I am super confused now as I was told she is not going to see me as a patient and I am not sure why I have never even met her. That scheduler told me she would have her manager call me back. This whole time has been about 6 weeks and now it has been another 9 days and the manager never called back. POOR FOLLOW UP - LIES - CANCEL APPTS WITHOUT NOTIFYING THE PATIENT. I would NEVER go back to this place it is very poorly managed, the people flat out lie and there is no follow up. read more

Not only did they botch my surgery by having a screw protrude though a disk and into my nerve they covered it up past the 3-year statute of limitations so I couldn't sue them for medical malpractice. They lied and said the pain was due to frayed nerve, but it would grow back. They falsified my records and said I refused tests even though my right foot feels like it is in a fireplace for hours EVERYDAY. I only found this out when I went to another pain speicalist who saw the screw immediately when he reviewed the same MRI that Swift had. The damage is inoperable so I will be on oxycodone for the rest of my life and I will NEVER be pain free. When I attempted to find an attorney in ALL of NV to represent me, I found they have EVERY firm that handles medical malpractice on retainer or have another relationship so they could not represent me. read more

Wish I could give zero stars. Swift apparently bought or took over Tahoe Fracture recently. I have been trying to get ahold of someone there for 2 weeks. Each time I sit on hold for a half hour only to be asked to leave a message to which nobody calls me back. I understand transition pains with the acquisition but this is ridiculous and it is negatively impacting my health. If they can't figure out how to service their current patients I feel sorry for patients who get referred here. read more

I was referred to this practice by my primary care provider, for hip pain. I did receive a call that they had the referral but were waiting for verification that my insurance would cover the vist. When you call, they don't have anyone answering the phone so you have to listen to numerous options, hoping you have made the right choice. After this your told someone will call you back in 48 hours. After waiting 3 days I was able to call another practice that actually has someone answering the phone. I booked with that practice. I have extension background in healthcare and they are not too busy to answer the phone. They don't want to spend the money to hire the amount of help needed. Would not want to make a call after surgery and get the same run around. Not for me. read more

I was a walk-in on a Saturday after injuring my knee in Truckee. Check in was quick and PA Sondra Arnett, who evaluated me,was attentive and knowledgeable. She made sure I had an MRI completed same day and provided brace and crutches until I could see orthopedic surgeon Dr. Nair (also amazing!). After seeing Dr. Nair, and putting surgery off (my choice), I was referred to Matthew Kimber in the PT department. Awesome folks who really care and inspire you to do your best to end up with positive results. Bottom line, I've had an incredibly positive experience with Swift and would recommend them 100%! read more

Orthopedic spine...physical therapy in Carson City. The new Swift phone system was non-functional for the several months I was going there. I had to drive by the office to leave a message. After that, my latest attempt was to try to reschedule an appointment in pain management because their office was closed during a blizzard when I showed up for my appointment. I called Swift many times and in one morning, called five times and was told to leave a message, which I did. When the phone was finally answered in person, it was always young women who obviously did not want to help me and seemed arrogant and protective of their gateway power. It was impossible. All of them were giving me different stories by the minute and not listening to me as to what I was trying to do. I finally told the last one to cancel the whole thing. Because of them, I am not getting the medical treatment I need. I have never, never in the almost two years I have tried to work with Swift offices had worse experiences with the phone systems and most of all with the phone attendants. read more

MA Ashten Howard was kind, patient and knowledgeable, rating a 4 1/2 (I don't give 5s), but the appointment system is about the worst I have ever encountered. I have never been able to talk to a scheduling human yet, and the "self scheduling" process is a joke. The info boxes leave no place for comments re special circumstances, which I had, and I finally just hung up. I feel like the only way I can get my questions answered is to drive to their office, which is quite a distance from my home. I am sorry if the office is understaffed, but I am VERY disappointed with Swift's automated administrative services, enough that I am inclined to seek help from another orthopedic practitioner. read more

So I landed here by accident. Went into renown er with some back problems. And lucked out having them call Dr Perry in and having to do a emergency surgery. The staff has been great and if they are running behind they do call and let you know. I have not had any problems during my follow up appointments. My only complaint would be post surgery having to climb stairs to get to their office. read more

I have had pain for 10+ years in my arms. I was so excited that The Swift Institute might be able to help me. I met with Jeromy Dyer, and he was great and gave me hope. Why the 1 star? Because nobody in the office follows up. I was supposed to get a referral for physical therapy. I called 4 times, each time I was on hold for 17-40 minutes before I could get to a human. Each time I had to ask them to bill my insurance company, and to please get me a referral for physical therapy. Each time, nothing happened. I just called again and they said they were sending the bill to the wrong address for my insurance company. I kept moving my appointment with Jeromy out, because I'm supposed to see him after a month of therapy. Finally, I give up. The professionals may be good, but if their office can't followup with anything, they're still useless. read more

I've always sent referrals out for a lot of our patients to this business from my office at work. No more! I was told I need a referral from my PCP which is fine. Most people get upset at that but I also work in healthcare and I know how it goes with insurance. HOWEVER, I was told to get a referral but they can't promise that they will accept my referral and get me an apt. I had spine surgery 3 years ago and I can tell something it wrong. So, they want me to go to my PCP... pay for a doctors apt so I can get a referral that they most likely will not accept? Worst place ever. If you search for a # then you sit on hold forever. Called the other day and tired of waiting, went to sleep. Four hours later, still just repetitive elevator music. Told MRI referral forthcoming and then... nothing. Its been 4 months. Paid a prior bill in full and still get nsaty late notices. Submitted copy of my check they cashed and still...crickets, just more late notice bills. Something is fundamentally wrong with the outfit. They were great. They quickly got us in, took x-rays of my husband's back, and assessed his situation. They gave him a steroid shot which helped quite a lot, as well as a muscle relaxer for his back, and then referred to additional providers, including a pain specialist, and neurosurgeon. Worst ever. Apparently, that can't teach anyone how to answer the phone, or have phone etiquette. Unprofessional! I finally thought I had a network of caring Physicians but right in the middle of treatment they cancelled all my upcoming appointments stating they don't want to take United Health Care insurance anymore. I've never heard of anyone getting the ax in the middle of treatment. I went to these facilities for nearly 20 years under the name Spine Nevada and was very pleased. I'm still in shock and cried for 3 hours. Also called my insurance UHC they know nothing about it. I'm over it now but will never give the any recognition in the future. Not even 1 star. read more

Spine Nevada along with many other Dr. Offices need to rethink their phone and receptionist systems. Today I got stuck on an on ramp due to an accident. I called the office seven times to let them know I was stuck, but their system dropped me every time. When I arrived, I went up to the desk where I was greeted with a very snotty "you are 17 minutes late." Not hello or did you have trouble getting here. It has come down to being treated like a 4 yr old. I am done with this. I will not patronize any establishment that cares so little for their customers/patients that they condone the disgusting attitude of their receptionist. This goes for phone systems that are ridiculous to navigate as well. The only reason this did not get a single star is because PA Carla Cordova-Eduave is a stellar provider. I'm writing for my husband who is trying to get treatment for his back. He didn't want to publicly voice his opinion because he felt it might impact his care. Their phone system in radiology works like this. You leave a message and they say they will call you back within 48 hours. If you don't have a cell phone, that would mean you have to be at home - ready to answer when they get ready to call. Actually, my husband waited more than 48 hours and called them again. He, again, had to leave a message. This went on for another few days before he finally got someone to answer the phone to make an appointment. Then he got an e-mail message to fill out paperwork. In order to do this he, has to get another phone call with a code. Then, the system doesn't like some of his answers, freezes up and won't continue. He is told to wait 24 hours and try again. Well - duh, the appointment was today. If you back is bad and you are in pain, your head is going to be hurting too once you deal with their system. read more

I am so grateful that we have Swift Urgent Clinic in Northern Nevada! It is an excellent walk-in clinic that exists outside of any of the hospitals in our area, which generally leads to more affordable treatment of injuries. Concerned about a strain, sprain, tear or closed fracture (one that doesn't break the skin)? Swift is the place to go! Because they are still a newer practice, it's pretty easy and well, swift, to get in and quickly be treated by an Advanced Care Practitioner. My husband injured himself at work some months ago, and I referred him to Swift due to the excellent word-of-mouth I have heard from many of my colleagues in the healthcare community. He was able to get in, have x-rays taken, meet with a Physician's Assistant for results and a treatment plan, and walk out with an orthopedic support device as well as a referral for an MRI all on his lunch break! The Providers and staff here are caring, compassionate, efficient and very knowledgeable about what they do. He was also provided a referral to an excellent Orthopedic Surgeon from Great Basin Orthopaedics to follow up with after his MRI. I cannot recommend Swift Urgent Clinic enough for all of your Ortho, Sports, and Spine ailments/injuries. They can even help treat new onset joint pain, too! Three cheers for Swift! read more
