I recently took a position as Office Manager and sold my boss on the idea of adding an electronic…read moresign to our existing lighted sign as a way of attracting more business. Nataurally, my job was to call around and get quotes on the signage. I made a phone call to Neokraft Signs on September 3rd...I have yet to hear back from them and today is October 24th. I do not feel I should be chasing quotes...they either want my business or they don't. After all, we are talking about a $15,000+ item. When I called I was greated by a friendly sounding receptionist who connected me to a salesperson. When I introduced myself he said to me, "Oh yeah, what's that guys' name you work for?" I told him and he continued with, "I quoted you guys a sign before and you went with someone else." My immediate thought-yeah, so? He continued, "Well what's he looking to spend, $15,000, $20,000-I need to know." I told him we hadn't discussed his max budget but was more interested in knowing what our options are and what the pricing will look like. He sighed, "Welll, that means I'll need to come out and take measurements and well, okay fine, I'll be out there soon to do that." Like I mentioned earlier, this was almost 2 months ago and....NOTHING! Not a phone call, email, stop-in...ZILCH! (Did I mention we are a stone's throw away from them?) OK, now...I get it, you did a quote for us before and we went with another company that had a significantly lower rate. Quoting is part of the game...it's business! To lose out on a $15-20,000 sale for being petty...OUCH! Does your management know about this? Let's look at it this way-That is like walking into a Toyota dealership looking to get into a new vehicle and the salesman saying, "Hey I remember you-we went on a test drive a few years ago and you went with a Nissan instead. Eh, I'm all set, go back to Nissan." As a comparison, I called Northern Signs that same day (they are 45 minutes away from us) and on Friday of that week the owner stopped in with a proposal, catalog, an image of what the sign would look like and his business card. This all right in the middle of a huge project of installing signage for the brand new hospital in Augusta! Take a guess who is getting our business?
