Blissful Births and Babies - Making memorable birth experiences

Blissful Births and Babies

100% recommend. All I can say is WOW. This was a service I never knew I wanted or needed so…read moregreatly. Robin was an angel and a confidant. Real and trustworthy. She was there for me, my son, and my husband before, during, and after birth. Having her as part of my birth story will be something I'm forever grateful for and if I'm blessed enough to have another child, I'll want her on my team again. Ps: She offered to snap photos of when I gave birth, capturing moments I would never have had without her. What a gift.

I really wanted a great doula for a complicated pregnancy. But Robin slept through my son's birth,…read moreeven after I told her at 5 pm I was checking into the hospital the week of my due date. When I talked to Robin, she said she was at an event and didn't have a car with her so she couldn't leave to come to the hospital at that time, because she was dependant on someone else for a ride. She assured me she would come and said she'd never slept through a birth. She also told me most mothers labor for 12+ hours and not to worry since I wasn't dilated at all. I was given Cervidil. In the middle of the night my son's heart rate started dropping. Cervidil was removed, my son's heart rate stabilized and I was given two options: Do a more controlled C-section or try to labor longer and then likely have an emergency C-section. I tried to get ahold of Robin. She slept through the text and phone call. So I opted to do a more controlled C-section which took a while since I couldn't have an epidural and it took more than 30 minutes for the spinal to take. Robin never showed up to the hospital and it took weeks, months, to get a partial refund. I never got a full refund. She also didn't call a back-up doula. She made a really frustrating situation -- of sleeping through my son's birth -- even worse by having to spent weeks of back and forth emails (and my son was a NICU baby) trying to get some of my money back. More troubling she also sent an NDA to me -- which I didn't sign -- to try and make sure this wasn't disclosed. Accidents happen but the follow-up was more problematic. Yes, her father died in the weeks after my son's birth and that is awful, but sending an NDA to try and cover-up the situation of sleeping through a birth was really awful and weeks of emails to get a partial refund difficult as I was recovering from a difficult pregnancy and delivery was troublesome. This happened in the summer of 2017. It's taken me a long time to process everything. I'm sure most births aren't like this, but other expectant moms need to be aware. I would hate for anyone else to go through something like this.

We had 3 kids under 3, so the overnight help was a must after having my third child. Chicago Family Doulas did an incredible job checking in throughout the time we were in their care and making sure myself as the mom and baby were getting the support we needed. They were very responsive whenever I would reach out. We couldn't have asked for a better doula than Shelly! She always made sure our daughter was loved and cared for and followed our lead as parents, she checked on me to make sure I was also mentally and emotionally ok. She took comprehensive notes making our transitions seamless and most of all has the biggest heart. If you're looking for support, Chicago Family Doulas is the place to go!

We were paired with Tiana for sibling care and she was everything you'd want in someone caring for your children - kind, caring, professional, intuitive and FUN. My 5 and 2 year old loved spending time with her. She was extremely communicative before, during, and after her time with us. She sent us regular updates with videos and photos too. The whole team is very engaged and responsive including the admin team and the owner. You can tell they all care deeply about this work and their clients. I would not hesitate to use this team for any type of doula service in the future and I recommend to anyone considering these types of services for their family.

While these have their merits, if you're interested in learning how to become a musician, with a foundation in technique, theory and performance, I couldn't recommend MIC highly enough. My teachers have been experienced, professional musicians who have performed with other professional musicians. Consequently, as performers, they are high caliber musicians. My current teacher is certified to teach the RCM curriculum, one of the few internationally recognized curricula for students who want to be qualified at increasing levels of proficiency. While I'm not seeking the RCM qualifications, I know that my teacher is teaching me to a professional standard. Her youngest student is 4, and I've seen how gentle and encouraging she is with that student. I'm multiples of 4, and she's gentle and encouraging with me as well!

Kurt Naebig's Monologue class stands out as having been particularly impactful. Kurt helped me find well-suited monologues and a level of specificity in my work that really brought my monologues to life. A case of opportunity meeting preparation, I used a monologue I had recently worked in Kurt's class to successfully audition for representation! Having taken taken this class in-person, hybrid and virtually, I can honestly I can say I prefer the virtual version. The level of instruction was consistent with in-person, however the amount of reps in Zoom class was greatly increased. And, as all of our work is now in the virtual world, it was also great prep for Zoom auditions. I highly recommend this class and Acting Studio Chicago!

She also has given her all the tools and skills to help with on camera work. My daughter did a youth camp over the summer and I have to say the youth program/camp was amazing. Not only were friendships made but the skills these kids learned will stick with them forever. We have gotten great feedback by our agent after auditions that my daughter gave a great self tape and alot of that is because of the training she has received at ASC. If your kiddo is into acting this is the place to get their training.

Received a massage (not your typical one!) as one of my birthday gifts from my boyfriend. There was only one other couple in the room and Emmanuel and his client for instructional purposes. The place is very clean, calm, and soothing. Emmanuel is attentive, patient, and knowledgeable (I believe he mentioned he's been doing this for 30+ years). He made the class very comfortable and engaging. I am so happy with my experience! Looks like many yelpers have covered this already, but here's the deal with this place... $33 for an hour long massage. They give you a student and you can't specify which massage therapist you want (including male vs female). My massage therapist was a perky little thing named Rachel. She'll soon be graduating from the school and she definitely knows her stuff. Rachel was very professional and applied just the right amount of pressure. I'm extremely tight so sometimes massages can be painful for me, but Rachel is pretty small so she could do jumping jacks on my back and it probably wouldn't hurt. It's amazing how relaxed I felt after an hour with Rachel. And the price gets better than $33 because if you come back within 30 days it's $28. 30 days? They can count on me to come back within a week! Is this the best massage I've ever had? Nope, but definitely the best massage for the price!
