Sweet Pea Outdoor School offers a variety of programs for children ages 3 and up! Including Preschool, Afterschool Care, and Summer Camp. At Sweet Pea we aim to facilitate growth through experiential education in a natural environment. We find that being outside improves focus, engages learning, heightens the senses, builds self-confidence and creates love and enjoyment for the world we live in. Our program's foundation focuses on play-based learning. The child's education is centered on what engages and interests them! By letting the children direct their learning and the teacher manage the risks, we see an increase in confidence, problem solving-skills, social competence and conflict resolution. These skills lead to dispositions of optimism, curiosity, openness, concentration, and creativity. By having respect for the young child we instill a sense of love and respect for all things in our world. Our goal is to offer ample outdoor opportunities for the children in our community as well as provide positive learning experiences. We hope that by offering these opportunities we will increase the knowledge and passion young people have for the outdoors, as well as instill a sense of good stewardship for our planet.

Meet the Business Owner: Rachelle L.

Hi! My name is Rachelle and I am the founder of and head teacher at Sweet Pea. I have worked at a few early childhood centers with children (infant to 10 years old) for the last nine years. I have an Applied Science and Associate of Art Degree and I have completed courses in Early Childhood Education and Elementary Education. I also have CPR and First-Aid. I recently have found my passion of teaching children in a natural, outdoor environment. Being able to witness first-hand the growth and confidence that takes place on a daily basis pushes me into a deeper pursuit of connecting children with nature. Beyond my love for teaching I enjoy gardening and have incorporated a gardening program into Sweet Pea. I have a knack for canning, baking, hiking, x-county skiing, and enjoy spending time with my husband and all of our animals. I feel honored to be a part of this wonderful community and have enjoyed getting to know all of the beautiful people that inhabit it.
