Great nostalgic feel in this candy land shop. I recommend a first pass through the shop without picking anything out as you can end up with WAY too much candy when you get to the end. The homemade chocolates had great flavor, but I wish there were two sizes to the nut clusters as they are huge. It would also be nice to have some smaller bags for the jelly beans as there are 70+ varieties and I prefer to keep the sweet ones separate from the salty ones for flavor mixing. Tons of variety and nice staff make this a great shopping stop. read more

I ab...so...lutely do not have a sweet tooth, but for those that do, I can't think of any other candy store that has more confections. They don't make everything they have available, but they do crank out all the chocolates, taffies, and fudges. I saw a bunch of candies that I grew up with in New England, and yet thought better of reliving that nostalgia, because some of them would rip out all your cavity fillings. The candy and selection were top notch. Unbeatable really. Spent plenty. However, the staff members were surprisingly unfriendly given the set up as an old-time, nostalgic candy store. They all seemed burned-out with the heavy over-crowding. Owner was flat out rude. Period. Honestly, our enthusiasm faded quickly here. We left disappointed in what became an overwrought, $$ tourist trap. Better customer service would've lessened the drawbacks and been much more consistent with an otherwise magical place, tourist trap or not. I would have given 5* but when we got home the bag that the shop supplies you with to choose your candy with opened up. A bad seal at bottom of bag! Yikes! Jelly belly beans all over the driveway! ! It is what it says it is. There's candy everywhere. (1200 varieties I believe I was told.) I really wanted to like this place more. The sheer volume and types of candies are amazing. They've got more sugar-free candy than I've seen anywhere. Which is a bonus for me since I can't have sugar. The issue I have is that there's no ingredient list on any of the containers that I saw. Given that Maltitol has almost the same glycemic index as sugar, but still labels itself as 'sugar-free', that's an issue for me. I have to read labels very carefully, and since there were none I had to google each brand name (if one was legible) to see if I could eat it. It's not a large shop for the volume of people that were in it. Expect people to bump into you almost constantly. The checkout line situation wasn't great either given the proximity to the door. Paid a visit to Sweet Palace during a trip to Philipsburg. Upon entering, we were greeted by the nicest gentleman who gave me a piece of huckleberry salt water taffy that was so good. I've never had huckleberry before as I'm from the Maryland/DC area so it was a real treat. The store is beautiful. The interior of the store is lined with a rustic feel and lovely shelves that hold hundreds of varieties of sweets from all over the world. Grab a bag and fill up with an assortment of candies. It's not inexpensive...runs around $8-10 per pound depending on the variety (candy from the outside circle vs. chocolate from the inside). Just try and exercise willpower and limit yourself to one bag...I dare you. There is a variety for every type of candy imaginable. There is a section devoted to just licorice (yum!!). My father loves coffee candies so I was excited to see a small section of various coffee sweets :) Stopped by the cashier to pay but got caught at the fudge section and bought some awesome pistachio fudge! We heard about Sweet Palace a few weeks ago and decided to visit. Nearly three hours of driving we found Philipsburg, Mt and our destination. With the COVID issue we were prepared to wear masks and entered the shop with them in hand. We quickly slipped them on and a masked man "asked" us if we wanted hand sanitizer. I asked if he knew what the ingredients were as I have severe allergies to certain chemicals. He said he didn't know so I respectfully declined the offer of the sanitizer. As I started to walk past him he touched my arm and said, "It's not my problem you have an allergy ma'am. If you don't use the sanitizer then you need to leave!" Wow! Just wow! I attempted to let them know what had transpired through private message on Facebook. It has now been more than 8 hours since they have seen my complaint and have chosen not to address the situation. I then tried to reach them on their Facebook page but the only deleted my comment and still did not address the problem. Clearly they only want nice things to be said and they choose not to face the negative. All I wanted was an acknowledgement that what happened was unnecessary and uncalled for. I understand and respect their choice to follow the suggestion of our governor to wear masks but there has been no mandate on using sanitizers. And with no sensitivity or attempted understanding of possible health risks through allergies, this turns the experience into something so negative that we will never go to Philipsburg again, let alone their shop. Perhaps they should turn to acceptable alternatives. Nitrile gloves could work. Taking care not to offer latex as many people, including myself, have an allergy to latex. Due to the Sweet Palaces disinclination to face this issue head on with sensitivity and understanding, I cannot, in good conscience, recommend this business to anyone. If you have allergies or environmental issues, I recommend avoiding them and, in fact, it wouldn't be worth the six hour round trip to be turned out by rude, mask wearing greeters. read more

While visiting Phillipsburg for the Sapphire Mine we continuously heard about the candy shop. Upon entering the store you're welcomed with the fudge counter (free fudge sample at checkout!). They have a lot of different flavors of fudge. Beyond the fudge there are the hand pulled taffy that are homemade and hand wrapped. They are along the bottom alphabetically labeled. The chocolate taffy is unique in texture but 100% worth the flavor. There's suckers bigger than your hand and chocolate turtles to suite your needs. The staff are incredibly friendly and helpful. Everything is priced by the pound. While we were there they were making solid milk chocolate bunnies. I recommend everyone to check it out! read more

So, my brother was home from the Army for a couple weeks in the summer. Since I was home as well, the family decided to take a little road trip out to Philipsburg. After driving for about two hours, we got out of the car and headed for the Sweet Palace. The next hour and a half was spent choosing and weighing bags of fresh-made saltwater taffy, imported malted milk balls, and homemade exotically flavored chocolates. When we were done, we went to a little diner for some lunch, then got back into the car. My brother asked, "Is that it?" to which we replied, "Why else would we go to Philipsburg?" I come from a family of destination eaters. Mention a trip we went on and we're more likely to remember where the best food was than we are to remember what we saw. Yellowstone? Site of the best New England clam chowder in the West. Banff? Elk sausages and multi-flavored creme brulee. My Manhattan wedding? The steaks. There are people who will walk out of Sweet Palace and say "That's it?" and there are others that will say that it is all it needs to be. You know who you are. read more

The bulk candy is priced at $7.95/lb and I found this to be very reasonable. Two walls are covered with all sorts of candy that you'll be hard pressed to find elsewhere, so stock up! I walked in the store and said "Holy crap." Then I wondered why my home town (which is much much much larger) doesn't have a store like this. The fudge is amazing -- smooth as can be. They sell the candy by the pound, so fill your bad with whatever you want from all of the bins and selections and they will just charge you a flat rate by the pound. (3 tiers; taffy/hard candy, chocolate, and fudge) We came for the saphire mining and were thrilled with the candy. It is worth going and checking it out. read more

This place is neat but upon further investigation it's not that special. At least 70% of the candy is candy you can get anywhere like Brach's, Hershey, etc. In addition it is way over priced and some of it's stale. However, most importantly they are not very personable or kind. My son is allergic to chocolate (really stinks when your a kid) and some preservatives but also has some texture issues. I mentioned this to two attendants and what appeared to be the manager. (He gets migraines) when I asked what was in the fudge the looked at me like I was asking for some secret recipe. It's fudge. Then I asked if he could have a sliver of the brown sugar fudge because it's made with brown sugar I worried he won't like the texture. Mind you I just spent $69.00 on candy but they told me they couldn't give out samples. Thank you for being understanding especially under these special circumstances. Please don't respond by telling everyone that if you did it for us you would have to do it for other customers. Nobody was around us and most people would understand this was a special circumstance. I would recommend skipping this place and going to the Phillipsburg Creamery down the street. They are happy to give out samples, very friendly and actually make the ice cream right there in front of you. read more

I found some of the candy I used to buy as a kid, but thought it was discontinued. Such a fun shopping experience! I believe that it is family owned and operated, and it shows in every detail. The Sweet Palace is a sugar junkie's paradise...yep, it's pricey, but how can you put a price on pure pleasure? If you don't, at the very least, saddle up to the counter and ask for a sample of AT LEAST one of the dozens of different fudges, you're a fool. This trip, I tried the lemon cream (only available in the summer months) and was blown away. We walked away w/ a bag of sour candy for our son, a bag of old fashioned candy (some of this stuff you can't find anymore except from online specialty stores), and a 1/4 lb each of pistachio cream and rocky road fudge. It's really part of the whole Pburg experience and I am so glad that there is such a bright spot in town to truly indulge your inner child...but be careful, if you have kiddies, the tendency to overindulge is there too (we saw a father cringe when all was rung up and they were shelling out over 50 bucks for candy!) read more

An extremely good candy store in little Philipsburg, MT, this place was definitely worth the detour from I90. As we drove towards it, we hit a major rainstorm and only barely made it before closing time, but I'm so glad we did. The selection is unbelievably large- candies, chocolates, fudge, toffees- you name it! Prices are decent too- I got a quite a bit more for my dollar here than I did in similar stores in other touristy parts of the state. Service was friendly and free fudge samples were offered to all customers. If you're anywhere close to this part of MT, do pop in for a visit. read more

I have been here several times and have not spoken up until now about safe food handling. There is none! Pay attention folks, when they pick up the candy they are not wearing plastic gloves for food safety. In fact, most of them put their dirty fingers smack dab in the middle of the candy. One old man puts his big fingers right on top every time I've been there. None of the workers pick up the candy on the side where it's in a little paper container. How come they are not required to practice safe food handling? My suspicion is they don't practice it from the beginning of the process when they get the candy in and place them in the cabinets to sell. People don't always wash their hands after using the bathroom, and not at all during the day! All it takes is one person to get very sick from fecal matter on a hand that has been handling food!! read more

My wife has a medical condition. This place was what she was most excited for in Philipsburg. Nowhere else in this town even questioned it when we entered and she didn't wear a mask. 99% of the businesses we went in, nobody but the out of towners were wearing a mask. When we told them about her medical condition they made her leave, and then pressured me to continue to buy from them even though she was left humiliated on the sidewalk. She has never worn a mask, and never will. I thought this was rural Montana, where we don't follow along with the mainstream media B.s narrative. I went to the Sweet Palace during our recent trip to Phillipsburg and was excited to visit there store as my girlfriend has told me so much about it. When we entered we were not greeted warmly but instead told to put a face mask on and to disinfect our hands. No hello no welcome just if you do not do this you can leave. I put a face covering on and used the hand sanitizer they provided but was so put off by the associates attitude that we walked in and then turned around and left. I understand that there are a lot of people traveling from around the country and they are trying to protect there associates who are working directly with the public. being negative , cold and rude are not good options when work with the public. I will usually give a business several chances but after this experience I cannot see myself revisiting there business. If you have a sweet tooth maybe it's a good fit for you but not for me. read more

My wife and I were taken here by my aunt, who lives in Alberton, MT. That should give you an idea of how cool it is in that we drove an hour and a half to get there! The town is a lot of fun and this candy shop is a must see if you are in the area. They had a whole section dedicated to just black licorice, which is one of my favorites. They also have almost any candy you can think of, and some you forgot about. The huckleberry taffy is amazing and so is the fudge. The pricing is easy so you can mix and match, $7.95/pound.
