I have a bit of a soft spot for this place (of of Ilkley's many tea rooms) simply because it is a bit of an underdog, and everyone loves an underdog.
Think of it as David, while the world famous Betty's (virtually next door) is Goliath. People apparently come from all over the world just to have a Betty's, which I just don't understand - especially as my time there was nothing special.
What was a little bit special for me, however, was Sweet Indulgence. It's a lot smaller and more intimate than Betty's, and is definitely less gimmicky. It's full of older folk like any tearoom is bound to be, but, unlike Betty's, I find that this makes you enjoy the experience all the more.
However, I went quite early one morning for a coffee, rather than an afternoon tea, so perhaps this is why I have a better memory of this place. Or perhaps it's because my coffee wasn't ridiculously priced, and I didn't have to book a table in a tearoom. read more
