Sweet Menories is not the kind of sweet shop that you'd expect to be opened these days. Think sweet shop, and many have adheared to the visions created by Roald Dahl in Charlie and The Chocolate Factory, and fantastical place where dreams come true. Sweet memories is simple, and very much how you'd have imagined a sweet shop to look about 50-60 years ago, or 'Back in my day' (visualise parent/grandparent..now).
It's rather refreshing really, as I walked in to pick up some lemon sherberts and a couple of strawberry bon bons, I was greeted by some very pleasant staff, who appeared to live and breathe sweets, judging by their conversation! Instead of being distracted by all the new sweets, and being blown away by some dramatic gaudy display, there was me, a counter, and about 100 jars of traditional, old-school sweets behind it, which were weighed out by the lady, and deposited in a little paper bag. It was a no-fuss, independant, traditional business, something that, as their facebook page says, 'is hard to find these days'. read more
