I've been doing quite a bit of running recently (no, my account hasn't been hacked, this is me) and I decided new sneakers were on the cards. I'd never actually heard of Sweatshop before but visited here because my health insurance gives me 50% off one pair of sneakers a year here, so I wasn't going to pass up a discount like that.
This store is inside the David Lloyd fitness centre, just inside the door. It's easy enough to find even if you've never been to the area before, like me. At first, I wasn't all that impressed with the store - I guess it just wasn't what I was expecting and seemed kind of small and dark. But I was wrong, happily. They actually have a really good range of sneakers and the staff member working was super helpful. Firstly, he got me to stand on their foot analysing machine so he could check if my arches/heels had any problems. Then, he showed me which sneakers would be suitable for what I was wanted to do. From there it was just a matter of picking a few and trying them on, and deciding which I wanted.
The guy working was super helpful - I wish I'd got his name so I could give him a shoutout! He asked about any issues I was having and was really helpful, checking my price range as well as what kind of distance/surface I was running on. He wasn't patronising at all which was what I was worried about because I'm so new to running and don't even do 5km yet.
I ended up buying a few pairs of socks as well as the sneakers. While this store isn't convenient for me at all, I would actually make the effort to come back here because of the service I received. They have a running club a few nights of the week and you can tell just how passionate they are about running.
Notes: They also sell a range of sports wear which looked really nice - I'll definitely be buying some new leggings soon! They also have a store in town in the Sports Direct on Argyle St.
Embarrassing confession time: you need to stand on the food analysing machine (which is a mirror) with bare feet so take that into account when you're getting dressed to visit the store. Don't wear a dress and tights like I did. Epic fail. read more
