I got to pop into the Swan Inn during Lewes bonfire last weekend. It's far enough out of town to not be rammed like the town centre pubs. They have all the usual drinks and a good range of Harvey's Ales. Of course, I had to try the Bonfire Boy on this occasion, a really nice dark ale.
Everyone was moved out to the garden after 5pm (due to the fireworks) so it's difficult to comment too much on the pub itself. The bar staff did seem friendly and they did let us back in to use the facilities when required!
The walled pub garden is a pleasant surprise and would be a lovely place to sit and drink in the summer. The lighting is great and it's a really nice space.
They were putting on a hog roast in the garden which I made sure I came back for later in the evening. My roll was piled high with meat, crackling and apple sauce, and was totally delicious.
I would like to revisit on another occasion to get a real feel for the pub itself. read more
