For the ones that have no experience with it, we were quite scared. Some did not know how to swim, and some were afraid of the water. But after meeting Jeff, everyone's doubt eventually went away. He was one of the most friendliest, laid back instructor anyone can meet. Two of my friends originally backed out, but Jeff did some magic & made them feel comfortable that they both ended up finishing the paddle board session. We were proud of them, but thankful to Jeff for making them feel comfortable. And Jeff was so nice to help us take a group picture. We all took Uber to meet Jeff on the Bayou St. John, and the neighborhood was very peaceful and beautiful. There is no changing room, so make sure to wear appropriate attire. You can store your items at Jeff's SUV. And if you must run to the bathroom, there is a gas station very close by (a few steps away). It was quite cold when we were there for our 11:30 am session, but it eventually got warmer. If you can't swim, a life vest is offered. We all wore life vests, and not one of us fell into the bayou. Paddle boarding was very fun, and easy to learn. Thanks to Jeff for this wonderful experience. I am also offering my apologies for any inconvenience we gave him. Thanks for being patient with us. Located at a fantastic new venue called YNOT, we were able to hang out (with our son) in a family friendly place with a splash dock to keep him busy and enough seating to watch him and the Saints play!! My partner and I have some experience paddling and wanted plenty of time to see wildlife and get deep in the swamp for the best scenery, and for us the extended tour was the right choice! I'd recommend it to visitors to New Orleans who love nature, the outdoors, and/or getting a fun and unique workout in during vacation. We were on the water for about 4 hours. Sunscreen, sunglasses, shoes you don't mind getting wet, and PLENTY of water are a must! There are stops at a truck stop right before and after for the bathroom and buying any drinks/snacks, plus a stop on dry land during the tour. Our guide Nick was clearly dedicated to both paddling and nature even outside of work, and our tour felt less like a scripted performance as some tours can be and more like a buddy was showing and telling you things he was passionate about. We saw several small alligators, barred owls, hawks, turtles, and water birds. It was unseasonably warm so the reptiles were a treat to see, and it was awesome getting to see owls out in daylight which I'd never be able to pick out myself. Bring binoculars if you have them! My only small complaint, which has nothing to do with the tour itself: the AI-generated content on the company's Instagram page is kind of weird. Photos and videos from actual tours would be more honest and enticing!

As of late September 2021, we went to New Orleans thinking all swamp tours were closed…read more Fortunately, someone in our group thought to make phone calls to see if anyone had opened up. This place started doing tours again in the last 10 days! We just wanted to do the swamp tour and of all the places we called, we liked that this place would pick us up and have a private airboat for our group. It also didn't seem as far as the other options. We were picked up by Kat (not sure about the spelling) from our Airbnb. She was so kind and helpful and even gave us disposable coolers cuz we didn't have any. She offered to stop by somewhere to get more food and/or drinks. We were fortunately all set but she was super flexible. In addition to being our driver, she was more than happy to share her very vast knowledge of New Orleans culture. She helped us understand the difference between Creole and Cajun. Talked to us about the more "American" architecture vs the old school Creole homes. We very much enjoyed talking to her. Once we got to the swamp, our guide was Shawn (Sean?). Shawn was also amazing! He knew that swamp really well and introduced us to his gator friends including Jack (the giant one), Tank (who's a she), Blondie (who might actually be a he) and we tried to spot Stevie Ray (the blind gator) but weren't lucky enough for a sighting that day. The two hour tour flew by with lots of cool encounters with gators of different sizes. It was also cool just to be able to appreciate the beauty of the nature around the area. It was sad to see the destructive force that Ida had because we saw many uprooted trees off to the side... Some looked really old. Overall, I wasn't super excited for a tour at first because reptiles and amphibians generally scare the crap out of me. I even made it clear to my friends that if anyone even jokingly tried to rock the boat, our friendship would be over! But this felt really safe and I had a lot of fun. While planning a bachelorette party we had 3 out of 7 that wanted to shoot guns and see gators and the other 4 just wanted to do gators. I was worried about the logistics of it all, and when I called them, they were great and got everything arranged for us. Transportation showed up on time in a nice transit type van. We stopped for food and had the opportunity to stop for drinks for the swamp tour, which isn't typically allowed for general admission swamp tours. The gun range was great, (obviously no drinking during shooting) and the experience was amazing! The tour was also amazing, and we got to see a lot of gators as well as a fun rip through the swamps! Our guide was great and kept things very fun! I 100000% recommend Gator and Guns! Just do it, you will not regret it!
