Swallow Creek Ranch was everything we wanted in a venue. My fiancé (now husband!!), Josh and I had just gotten engaged and we were researching possible venues for our special day. Shortly after we arrived at Swallow Creek Ranch, we knew it was the one. The hilltop ceremony site alone was enough to convince us. However, as soon as we met Kyla, her kind and laid back personality aligned so well with what we were looking for. Within reason, she never denied any of our crazy ideas. "Can we have a 90s cover band play a surprise show that evening on the back stage!?" "Sure!" she said with a smile. And we did! We loved her positivity from the start, but after working with her we learned she had many other great qualities that made our planning process much easier: she was very organized, had good attention to detail, and was a strong communicator. When you're planning your own wedding, these qualities are very important to have in all your vendors. Being semi new to the area, we weren't sure what exactly to expect from fall on the central coast. We were married on October 26th, 2019 and we had perfect weather. The day of our ceremony, the fog rolled out and gave us a beautiful backdrop. The barn has so much charm, and many guests commented on our cool and unique choice for both our ceremony and reception. Also -- the bridal suite made me consider re-decorating our home. :) Kyla - you and your family were a pleasure to work with. Swallow Creek Ranch (and Cayucos in general) now holds a very special place in our hearts. Thank you for everything!

Heading down the hill after the wedding for the reception.

My husband and I got married here in July of 2019. We loved the venue and we were able to have our dream wedding. Kyla and her husband were amazing to work with and answered all our questions. Thanks to them and the venue we were able to throw an amazing wedding. It was absolutely gorgeous! We were able to decorate the barn exactly as we wished and had our littler personal touches everywhere. We were about to fit 160 guests comfortably for dinner and on the dance floor. We got married at the top ceremony site which I have to admit made me nervous about transporting everyone down. However, Kyla recommended a shuttle which helped move everyone down to the reception site. Most of our guests opted to walk down the hill and they said it was an easy walk and beautiful. I made sure to let everyone know they need to wear comfortable shoes, so that helped a lot. Kyla answered all of my questions and worries as I was doing all the planning. She made it a lot easier for me to plan and enjoy my big day. The onsite bridal suite was also perfect for the day of to hang out and get ready during the day. The wifi helped us keep in contact with everyone needed.

Overall, it…read morewas kind of disappointing, but the food itself made up for it in someways It took 15ish minutes for anyone to take our drink order. The bigger issue was at the end we paid with a $100 bill and while counting the change in front of us, the waitress set some of the money aside for herself as a tip without even asking. We were planning to tip don't get me wrong but that felt really rude and made us not even want to at that point. When we asked her , we got weird looks which made it uncomfortable. She started off nice, but once it got close to closing, her attitude definitely changed and it felt like she just wanted us out. I get that I've worked in food service too! but it still didn't feel very professional . Also, this was my first experience here which turned out to being a huge disappointment.. Honestly, I'd probably just do takeout next time.

We'd walked…read moreto Giuseppe's (very crowded and loud and I hate sitting on high chairs - I like my feet on the ground when I eat!) but it really didn't smell good so we hoofed it over to Mama's Meatball. Ohhh what a difference! The nose doesn't lie. Our wonderful server, Carla, brought us a plate of garlic knots, which were so welcome as we were very hungry! We ordered the appetizer meatballs, which were as fluffy as clouds and so flavorful - served in a beautiful fresh marinara we dipped the garlic knots in. We also shared the Barbabietola salad, which I want to recreate at home but I doubt I could make as delicious a dressing. I always love to try gnocchi when I can and I was over the moon with these - lovely and fluffy and drenched in the same wonderful marinara as the meatballs - smooth and rich with just the right amount of acid - with a thick layer of mozzarella, ooey and chewy at the same time. My husband chose the Cavatelli Alla Norcia, which was as delicious as he'd hoped it would be. As hungry as we were, the portions were very generous, and we wanted to try dessert, so we opted to bring our leftovers to eat later, and ordered the tiramisu. We were surprised and delighted when Carla returned with a little cart and assembled our dessert right in front of us! (I won't give details - spoilers!) Everyone who took care of us was friendly and warm. We didn't feel rushed but the service was efficient and we were fed and done in very little time. I wish we lived in the area because I'd love to try everything on the menu - especially the pizza, as a nearby table ordered one and it looked *beautiful*! We will definitely come back when we're passing through SLO again!

Tonight we popped in for an after dinner cocktail and some desert, and we sat at the bar... well, amazingingly delicious cheesecake and gelato! However, we noticed that while we ordered a small/single scoop of gelato we were charged a large price.  Now, not much of a cost difference, but we were curious why we were charged the price of a large when we ordered the small. When we asked our bartender he explained that when you order a "take out" it's cheaper than when you order the SAME desert as a sitdown patron... then he compared it like this... "If you order a bottle of wine as a walk-in customer and you take it to-go it will be one price, but if you order a bottle of wine while dining then we charge you a corkage fee." Hmmmm... that really doesn't track with us.  First, IF I order a bottle of wine I better not be charged a corkage fee UNLESS I bring my own bottle of wine.  Second, was this bartender trying to suggest that we were getting some sort of EXTRA service because we were sitting down and ordering a dessert?... and, if so, what was this special extra service we were being charged for??  Seems to us that if we ordered a to-go then we'd also be getting the container, the to-go utensils, and the bag... all which cost a small bit of money to the restaurant... but if we order in then we are served our gelato in a little metal dish, with metal flatware, which is retained by the restaurant... and the only "additional" cost would be the washing of said dish & flatware.   Well, when we highlighted the comparison of "corkage fee" to dine-in desert price and the bartender THEN said that that was just what he thought, but that he could talk with the owner (who was in) and let us know.  Initially we said no... we were just wondering... but the bartender brought it up two more times that he would ask the owner, so we eventually said sure.  Fifteen minutes passed with no sign of the owner and that particular bartender never returning to share any info one way or another. Honestly, it was not that much of a concern to us initially... we were just curious. But when we where told a "story", then realize the bartender was just making crap up, then told he would check on it, and then we were never communicated to again... well, that is just VERY POOR customer service. Before we left we changed our 23% tip to ZERO%. We believe that an establishment can have any policy they want... and, while we'd appreciate to know up front pricing differences, we can roll with that.  What we DON'T like is being BULLSHITED and left hanging. Please don't make s*@t up, let alone not following up with what you say you'll do. Very souring to an otherwise enjoyable evening. Anyway, thus our review... and the likelihood of us returning is very pretty slim.

Parking is pretty bad especially during peak hours so expect to circle around multiple times or find street parking elsewhere. We ordered: -Bee Stang, Detroit style (5/5): Despite the name the honey wasn't too pronounced - it was mainly the spice. This is a pretty garlicky pizza and the ricotta texture and taste was on point. The thick and crispy crust of the style was also a standout for us. This was my favorite of the 2. - Sausage and Pepperoni Pizza, Neapolitan style (4/5): My bf's favorite pizza of the 2. Love the thin crust and flavor which was distinctly meaty with tomato sauce to cut through. It could have used more toppings for the price and it was also slightly burnt on the edges of some of the crust so we couldn't enjoy it fully. Also the slices weren't evenly cut through but luckily it was easy to split it apart. Overall very enjoyable meal and a nice date night vibe inside. Would definitely come back if we're in the area.

Helpful staff guided us with their patron favs. Started with: 1) meatballs: flavorful & tender (probably added panade). Marinara nicely balanced. Pistachio pesto added a nice nutty accent. Great dish. 2) mixed berry salad: spring salad greens with plump fresh berries. Pinkish berry vinaigrette was nice. Tasted similar to a 1,000 isle type dressing. 3) three pea pizza: buddy doesn't like goat cheese so ordered it on the side. Crust was great, veggies fresh & colorful. It really needs the goat cheese though. Otherwise it lacks dimension. I was able to sprinkle on my pieces. Made a world of difference. 4) bee stang: crust had crisp edges. Middle got a bit soggy from toppings. My NYC buddy loved the ability to fold it in half though. Great overall flavor. The hot honey added just the right amount of tang/tart. Tasted as good as it looked.

Flavor was great and there weren't many that were served that weren't open. Prior to that they delivered an olive dip for the bread.
