Svendsen Florist is truly a full-service flower shop. Not only do they design stunning fresh flower arrangements and provide beautiful indoor and outdoor plants; but they also wrap and box houseplants for travel. We recently moved out of state, and did not look forward to keeping our houseplants intact during the move. Melissa at Svendsen Florist came to the rescue. She arrived at our Decatur home with her supplies and prepped our plants for a long drive on a hot day. When we arrived at our new home, all the plants were healthy and happy. Thank you, Svendsen Florist, for this very helpful service. read more

I ordered from across the country for a friend who had lost her mother. I asked for something in the 50-60 dollar range delivered featuring the prettiest freshest flowers that would be coming in the next day. We had discussed hydrangea, iris, roses and/or tulips. I noted the person liked blue so I thought iris would be nice and/or hydrangea and maybe blush roses or white. They delivered dyed light blue carnations and "quick to droop" gold Gerber Daisys and tan-gold alstromeria. They put in some pretty chrysanthemums. The price was OKish but the design and choices were not my taste. As it happened the deceased mother really liked carnations and my friend was pleased. She said this florist is historic in Decatur so maybe I would try them again and be more specific about what I want instead of leaving it to them. BTW, the pictures on the website are all the same by tele flora which hosts so many florist sites now. Those are SUPER expensive. read more

A little disappointed in the flowers sent to my sister as a get well bouquet. Looked like one from the grocery at $12.00 rather than the over $60 I spent. Sorry I chose them read more

My neighbor displays the most beautiful wreaths. She recommended this florist. I have purchased 3 over the last few months. Sadly, the owners retired recently and someone else owns this business (maybe a relative or former employee?) . Wanting to purchase 2 new wreaths (one for a gift), I visited last Friday. The first sales clerk was friendly. I walked back to look at the Christmas wreaths and encountered a delivery man who asked if I needed help. I told him that I did have a question. He found another lady who was very rude and acted like I totally interrupted her time. My question was about the Christmas wreaths and if they were discounted. She let me know that never happened. When I was in once, I told her that the wreaths had been marked down. Rudely, she finally said that did happen when the former owners were selling the business. I will let my neighbor know and anyone who plans to shop there . . . to shop where people want your business. Because of her rudeness, it cost her the sale of 2 wreaths that day. Each one was marked $85.00 Plus. Decatur isn't a large city and surely customers count. read more

I ordered my father's plant arrangement over a week ago for his funeral. His visitation was last evening. My half sister informed me one hour before his funeral that my arrangement was not there. I paid $81.00 and they did not even deliver it. Once I called them, they said it must had been delivered somewhere else. Then afterwards when the funeral was starting they delivered a pitiful looking arrangement that was not what I discussed or agreed to pay for. I complained and they picked it up and then refunded my money. If my half sister had not told me the plant arrangement was not there, I would have been charged and never knew. HORRIBLE Customer service!!!!!!! read more

Ordering a bouquet of flowers over the phone, from out of state, can feel like loading your buffet plate with a blindfold on. What will it REALLY consist of when done and sent? Sure, every florist has pix on their website of examples, but varying seasons and inventory can make a big difference in what you see and what you get. I live in Portland, OR., but grew up in Decatur, and wanted to send some flowers to a funeral home near there. I've heard horror stories from people that used 1-800 national florists. So...Called my mom in Decatur to ask which LOCAL florist I should use, and she recommended Svendsen's. Listen to your mother, people. She'll always steer you right. I looked at their website, wrote down the name of a lovely arrangement, and called to place my order. The woman that answered looked at the web photo of my request, and let me know they were out of the tall gladiolus in the pictured arrangement. She asked how much I wanted to spend and made suggestions for an alternative to the glads. I told her to just make it colorful, (as I'd been told the daughter of the deceased preferred that), to mimic the container, size and shape, and beyond that I left it up to them to decide which of their available flowers would make the nicest arrangement. They're the pros...trust them! Glad I did. My daughter was able to attend the visitation and just texted me a photo of the arrangement. It is STUNNING. Even lovelier than the one pictured on their website. I feared a mass of carnations and filler, but it's lusciously full of beautiful, various blooms. (Picture posted) Oh, and they did all this same day! I'm impressed, pleased, and will use them again. When I send flowers it's because I genuinely care about the recipient, and always worry a little that they won't turn out as nice as hoped. I'm grateful to Svendsen's for sending out such a truly beautiful arrangement. It exceeded my expectations! Update: Used them again, recently, and they did not disappoint this time, either. read more

This florist shop has courteous and knowledgeable folks taking care of your order. Call directly and skip the online stuff. They will make up something custom for you for a lot less than those online florists and it'll be fresh and beautiful. I've used them for many years. read more

It's tough buying birthday presents for you parents no matter if they live near you or not! It's especially tough if they don't live close by and you have to ship whatever it is to them. OK, my Dad is a bit easier because he apparently likes South Butt clothing...but that's another story! My Mom, on the other hand, is a tad more difficult to pick things out for her since she's usually not shopping with me. And she's gone on record saying that she does NOT want a South Butt shirt :) She does, however, love flowers and I'm happy to send her a bouquet from her favorite Decatur florist - Svendsen's. Svendsen's has been our family florist for many, many years! Even with the 1-800 Flowers boom, they still get top ranking in my book. All I have to do is call the store directly, tell them the amount I want to spend and they put together a beautiful bouquet with no fuss. Oh, and as long as you spend at least $10, they deliver for free that same day. Talk about an easy option for a gift... If you live near Decatur, I suggest giving them a call. You won't be disappointed. If you don't live in the area, I would also suggest working with your local florists instead of 1-800 Flowers, as you are supporting local business, the prices are usually better and delivery charges are minimal. read more

Svendsens, Johanna and crew helped me from afar with consulting and final project for a large party I hosted at the Decatur SouthSide Country Club. From first over the phone conversation, to working with me just once in person, she (they) were delightful in delivering beauty, value, whimsy, and vision for my event. HIGHLY Recommend. read more

Absolutely love this florist!!! :D The bouquets are always just fabulous, and their website is so easy to use! I live in Texas, but my in-laws live in Decatur, and I've had flowers sent to my mother-in-law several times now from Svendsen. Each time she just gushes about how beautiful the bouquets are and emails us photos of them :) Thanks so much for being awesome Svendsen Florist!! read more

Svendsen's has always been my florist of choice. They did our wedding flowers (and were significantly more economical, at least at that time.) When I had the unfortunate task of selecting the casket spray for my husband's funeral, all I specified was that blue was his favorite color. Svendsen's make the spray of hues of blues and purples, and it was the most beautiful arrangement I've ever seen. Many remarked how gorgeous it was. Of the arrangements that others sent, the prettiest were all from Svendsen's. read more
