Wanted to try the place due to it's proximity to the hotel where I was staying (literally across the road). Ordered seaweed salad, octopus salad, mackerel nigiri, spicy tuna roll and a Sapporo. The service was good, one of the waitresses was new and learning the menu buy very good. The food, not so much. The seaweed salad came out first with a sprinkling of sesame seeds but no sesame seed oil dressing and instead of the custom finely shredded wakame the salad was large chopped leaf seaweed. The result was a fairly sizeable briney collection of seaweed (way too much) instead of a small nutty sesame side of wakame. The spicy tuna roll came out next which was OK, but pretty basic... spicy tuna, rice, nori. Tuna was OK. The octopus salad (in the picture looked like salad tossed with grilled octopus) turned out to be a small plate of about 8, 1 inch long battered and fried pieces of octopus with no dressing and no sight of a salad anywhere near it. The Sapporo that came was that smallest Sapporo I've ever seen. Mackerel (saba) is my yard stick for comparing sushi places. The saba here wasn't that good. Instead of firm, velvety pieces of mackerel they were soft, almost mushy, not a hint of vinegar / pickle used to flavor them at all. I would have probably given the place 2 stars had it not been for the service. Nothing ventured, nothing gained but won't be in a rush to come back. If you're looking for good sushi then look elsewhere. read more
