I hired Paul Sutton a little over a year ago and paid him $2,000 for an uncontested divorce. I later realized, he wrote up our child support computation completely wrong; it is written for one child instead of three, and the income is about $20,000 less than what was shown in the tax documents we gave him... I noticed this a while back but have been putting off correcting it. I finally contacted him yesterday and he was quick to point out that I somehow still owe him $100 (apparently my uncontested divorce went over that $2,000 retainer) and said that I need to accept responsibility for the miscalculation since I signed the final paperwork. I do agree that it is partly my fault as well since I apparently didn't look over things very well but during an obviously stressful and emotional time, I was trusting that someone I paid a large sum of money to was doing things correctly for me. So now he says that if I want him to correct the mistake, I need to pay him a $750 which is only a retainer and he will be charging $250/hour for his work on the correction. This mistake has caused child support to be SEVERAL hundred dollars less a month than it should be for the past year.
