I love to try local restaurants and this is favorite when we are in town. We got here just as they opened and were the only customers for a while. I ordered their Chinese chicken salad and the Veggie Italiano. The salad was huge and delicious. The sandwich is on the smaller side and a bit greasy but good taste. Very friendly staff who was patient as they waited for me to determine what to order - it all looked and smelled delicious! I will be back when we travel through so I can try something else. read more

Beth and myself here now waiting. I've asked for the Pastrami sandwich and Beth the Mixed Vegie sandwich. Busy lunch time now and apparently local people I am guessing. Am guessing the hot spot for lunch for all age groups! And getting 5 stars alone for special making us an Oatmeal and Raisin cookie as we are waiting. How cool is that?!! The Pastrami sandwich is pretty good but scimpy on pastrami. The Vegie sandwich is definitely an excellent and unique choice. Way better than expected. The cookie is real good but not more. Some ice cream on top would enhance that. Cookie does not appear handmade. I would guess is from a prepared frozen mix. Is still real good though. Anyone should try this and the Vege sandwich for sure. read more

I ordered the pastrami sandwich it was good I thought it had enough meat, contrary to Kent's review, but I was not impressed with the chili. Almost $5 for a cup? Too high for the amount you get. The staff was friendly! Nice locality, not very much parking. They have lunch specials every day. Not sure I will be back but worth a try. read more

Guests really enjoyed the Chinese Chicken Salad & variety of sandwiches. We did buffet-style serve-yourself for the meeting. Reasonable price. When I dined in, the owner was really nice & teased us the whole time. He even brought over some complimentary pumpkin(?) bread. I ordered the "Trainwreck" sandwich which had bleu cheese & was tasty. Came with chips. I would recommend dining here for lunch. I will not eat here again!! Sandwiches are good, employee practices are a crying shame. Having worked in food safety for almost 2 decades, I was appalled last Friday about noon to observe a server drop a bag of chips on the floor, pick it up, put the chips BACK ON THE PLATE TOUCHING A SANDWICH, then serve it!!! There are no "5 second rules" in food service!! Nothing from the floor should never EVER get served to a customer! In retrospect, I should have followed her and warned the customer. Very soon after, I observed another worker slicing cooked chicken on the slicer and eating some at the same time. Eating is not allowed in food prep areas! Although the deli was busy at the time, that's no excuse. I considered it egregious enough to notify the Health Dept. Also, I did not observe anyone wearing hair restraints, a darn good idea IMO. read more

I must be going insane. This is hands down, the best sandwich place to eat in Grand Island. I'm sorry, but the three people reviewing this place are simply wrong. I haven't used them as a catering service but I have eaten here at least 50 times or more. They have amazing sandwiches, excellent soups, wonderful cookies, and a little known secret called breakfast! If the owner is working ask him to make you his special. Whatever he makes, I can assure you it will be amazing! I have lived many places, Los Angeles, Seattle, and the Chicago area I have yet to find a sandwich place that beats Sutter deli. If you like huge greasy portions with a pound of french fries, maybe this isn't your place, but if you have a taste for fresh products and real food, you will not be disappointed. read more

My kids insist on eating at Sutter Deli every time they are in town. They love the marinated portabella sandwich, chinese chicken salad and the ginger cookie or the banana nut cookie. I like the chicken sandwich with the marinated artichoke heart, but I will eat whatever Bill cooks for me. My grandchildren said the grilled cheese is better than any other one they have eaten anywhere. Some of my family like the sandwich with the thinly sliced apples (johnny appleseed) . It's 11:15 a.m. I just called Sutter Deli to order their Chines Chicken Salad, enough to feed 12, for a potluck. I honestly expected I would have to give them far more notice for such an order. Sutter will have it ready for me at 2:15 this afternoon! It's a blessing! I love this salad, & I'm sure my friends will, too. My employer often uses Sutter Deli to cater training events. Their sandwiches are always great. Our boss invited us all to lunch their after one of our staff meetings, the first time I have ever been there, & was charmed by the place. When I ordered my lunch & an Overdose cookie, I was shocked when the cashier grabbed a huge chocolate cookie AND spread a gob of chocolate frosting over the top of it before handing it to me! We tried to book their party room for an event. After a number of communication attempts I was unable to get them to pin down a price. The woman told me several times that "We are expensive." But again no specific pricing. I love the look of of the special occasion room and really wanted to use it for our function, but found the whole experience disconcerting and will certainly not recommend them to anyone I know. read more
