My friend is mad about Japanese food but she never been here so we decided to give it a try.
They have a much more traditional Japanese ikazya setting when you walk in and a more modern back room with tables (even though most were wobbly)
I noticed the menu had a lot of Thai and Chinese fusion...so I started off with hot and sour soup. It wasn't bad, however I prefer mine much spicier with vinegar, this was more peppery without any sourness to it. My companion didn't enjoy it
Next dice we loaded was the nigiri mix. She never had it before. I was shocked by the quality, truly a pleasant surprise. And it had wasabi between the fish and rice, true Japanese style. We both enjoyed it very much.
Next we had a fried squid(ika) roll which I've never seen available before. It was very good. And a traditional California roll which is the same anywhere. I noticed the crab stick was in much larger portion than is typical, which is nice.
Finally the volcano roll. It had shaved fried onion on it, which was a nice textural change than just having cucumber. The spicy/siracha mayo was too hot for my companion however it was mild at best to me.
I definitely recommend this for anyone in Istanbul! read more
