I've been visiting Sushi-Jin fortnightly for the past 3 or 4 years.
It's sadly underrated and kind of out-of-the-way for a CDB location but I don't care. It's a hidden gem, and it's MY hidden gem.
As I type in my lunch hour, I'm having my "usual" - Chicken Teriyaki on rice. It's as simple as it sounds, and that's why it's delicious - soft, moist rice with perfect texture, liberal teriyaki sauce and the chicken is always seared and never soggy. The dish is topped off with sesame seeds on the chicken and pickled ginger on the rice. It is perfection. It's also already cooked and in the container, making it hygienic and FAST.
Sushi-Jin is more authentic and home-style Japanese takeaway. The hot foods feature dishes such as salmon fried rice and vegetarian fried rice and the sushi chef goes to the bother of making onigiri (rice balls) and searing his Tamago (egg) sushi with a little brand of Japanese characters. It's said that you can tell the quality of a sushi restaurant by the effort the chef puts into the egg sushi (the cheapest sushi), if they bother with the cheapest, then the chef has much pride in their work. ...And honestly, I couldn't tell you ANYWHERE else that served Onigiri rice balls.
To add to the authenticity, there are small drawings and handwritten signs in Japanese about the counter. I think these sorts of touches are charming and possibly lost on most people, who want to zoom in and out of "Sushi Sushi" with the standard tuna/avocado roll - yes, me too sometimes.
To come to the negatives for Sushi-Jin, I would say location and lack of atmosphere. I have never eaten in the depressing food court, I always take-away. I have literally gone to eat outside the library to avoid that food court. I wouldn't take someone there as it's uncomfortable to sit and eat. However, if you are looking for good home-style take away with a lot of options - try Sushi-Jin.
