Sushi Hotaru is one of the better sushi train around Melbourne CBD. You gotta go there early though, as there is quite a long queue after 12pm which meant you have to wait for up to an hour to get a seat. The seafood are quite fresh and there is a self serve ordering system where sushi can be made fresh to order. I find that some of the rice are quite hard though, especially ones on the conveyor belt. The kitchen staff are not the friendliest bunch sometimes and would not even make eye contact or say anything as they hand you the plate of sushi you ordered. However if you needed a sushi fix for a cheap price this is really the place to go. Most dishes are $3, except sashimi which is $7.9

Pros: Great sushi at affordable prices on a sushi train Cons: Long queue (only drop by when you have time to spare) Recommendation for the best of the food experience here; Small soba + hot green tea + Handroll Softshell crab + (any Sushi of your choosing)

So there's always a line for this little joint. But it's well worth the wait. The digital ordering service is fantastic and the food is fast and ready. Everything is so tasty and fresh.

sushi everywhere!

A very long train of sushi awaits you here. At only 3 dollars a plate, a queue will probably await you too. A great selection for the price though. A touch screen is available to order extra dishes and drinks too. How Japanese! The soft shell crab is A OK!

Average quality and not always value for money. The menu presents fairly decent choices for a wide selection, but not all options are value for money. From the menu, hand rolls, side orders and rice bowls are prepared fresh on the spot and served well. From the conveyor, some items seem to be sitting there for some time and lacked freshness. The sushi rice was not flavoured or prepared consistently, and in addition, the nigiri style sushi is remarkably small. Traditional nigiri sushi is the size of a human palm. Sushi Hotaru's version of nigiri sushi is 60% the size of traditional nigiri sushi at other establishments. What this means is that customers seeking to get a fill on nigiri sushi may end up spending more on their bill to get the same quantity in sushi that they can obtain elsewhere. The sushi quality is also very poor. My suggestion is to be selective on what you purchase off the menu. If you intend to purchase alot of sushi nigiri and sashimi, due to the portion sizes, you will be best to invest dining at another establishment that offers fresh, good quality sushi

Came here for dinner…read more The sushi was absolutely delish! After one bite it was a party in my mouth. Tastebuds were happy! I ordered salmon avocado and ebi panko. The ebi panko had prawn, cucumber and spicy mayo. Both were delicious and fresh. I also had traditional ramen which was equally delicious! It had original pork broth, thin noodles, bean shoot, spring onion, egg. and seaweed. Absolutely delish dinner!

As my family and I walked in to Gochi service was delivered straight away with it also being a busy environment. We were seated and served water and the menus which got me excited. I ordered the cprisy chicken, tempura prawn and cprisy salmon (with you had to ask for as it's not being on the menu). There was an order of 15 fresh sushi rolls and the wait, well I wouldn't even call it a wait. Service was defiantly spot on here with great time management. The sushi was presented lovely all cut up with ginger and wasabi on the side, yum! Everything about Gochi is amazing! -Great quality of food -Great customer service -Presentation wise of the overall place was beautiful with cute Japanese quotes all over the place. Was a great experience not only for myself but for my family with haven't tried sushi before. So it was an interesting lunch for them to finally listen to what all my bragging is about haha. See you again soon Gochi!

The food though, is beyond incredible! I have never tasted such amazing Japanese food, I have not found any other restaurant that matches or compares to KoKo. The view from the windows is also incredible, the location within Crown towers makes it so easy to get to and we have never been turned down when we call to reserve a table, They always make room for you and make you feel special. For the quality of the food, the price is so worth it! During tepenyaki the staff interact with you and make it such a fun dining experience. I never want to leave after dinner. If you are a fan of Japanese food, I recommend you get yourselves down to KoKo, You will not regret it and you sure will not find a restaurant like it.

However, the sashimi and sushi were disappointing. The sashimi were cut on the thin side and most pieces were quite dry. The fish on the sushi was comparatively less dry, but the rice was quite tasteless and occasionally fell apart. The wagyu beef udon (Niku Inaniwa udon) was the best dish out of the 3. The udon was smooth and chewy. The meat had an intense flavour. No fat was visible but the beef was not tough.

Best Nobu restaurant & experience to date!…read more Quality/Quantity - We got the Melbourne Seven Course Nobu Omakase. See pictures. Looks like my 7th course, dessert, picture got deleted or is missing, sorry. Well this has been my favorite Nobu to date, and we have been to a few. This was not on our list to visit and we weren't even hungry, but we saw it and made the impulse decision to go. Plus we did NOT expect so much food, especially since all our other Nobu restaurants were not as generous. We left so full. his experience exceeded out expectations. I also got a glass of white (NZ Sauvignon Blanc) and red, sorry, I can not remember which red I got. Also available - Happy hour from 3pm to 6pm from Monday to Thursday. Atmosphere - Good size, 2 story location. Beautiful decor, including the bathrooms. Table, booth, and bar seating available. Open 7 days a week from noon to 10:30pm or 11pm. Events available, see website. We also got seated next to the window by the fire show. Again, sorry my pictures are missing; I guess it did not get uploaded. Service - Excellent. Friendly, nice, and proactive. Price - $440AUD. FYI, by the time of this review, the Melbourne Seven Course Nobu Omakase is now only $190AUD, a $5 savings; lol. Owner Comment - Congrats on all your successes and successful partnership with Robert De Niro and Meir Teper. Congrats on your 13 hotels and 50 restaurants. Lastly, congrats on your 2015 valuation of $500M with the 20% sale to James Packer.

Mid-high end Japanese restaurant, located in the same building as a hotel (Hyatt I think?)…read more I went there for a weekday lunch, as they do lunch specials. I went for the sashimi and sushi set ($48) which was good value for the amount of food you get, but the quality of the sashimi and sushi was average. For the set, you get quite a bit: chawanmushi, miso soup, a yakitori skewer, pickles, and the food you order. Extremely good value for the cheaper sets (I think like a bento for 20-30?) The sashimi and sushi set was a bit disappointing. The fishes given for the sushi and sashimi were on the cheaper end. I don't think there was even a tuna. They did give two pieces of scallop, which was tasty. Overall, I would have either expected one or two pieces of pricey fish, or a few extra pieces of sushi or sashimi. The rice was also cold, rather than slightly warm. Overall, it felt like an average sushi lunch, not fitting the mid-high end positioning they are going for. Tip: don't forget they have 20% off on EatClub; which if you use with the lunch offer, is great value for money.
