Let me start by saying that I have consulted with numerous psychics, intuitives, and animal communicators over nearly 20 years. I am not a skeptic by nature, and yet I left my session with Susan feeling skeptical, disappointed, and just plain confused about what her agenda was. I booked an hour-long zoom Animal Communication session with Susan to connect with my senior dog whose health is in decline, and to explore whether he feels ready to pass on. But I came away with the gnawing sense that she was unable to actually open up a connection with my dog, and that she pivoted towards info seeking, reflective listening, validation, and advice giving to make up for it. This left the impression of having simply done a therapy session -- which would have been fine if I scheduled that service, but Susan is not a licensed therapist and I expected far more given how she advertises her psychic abilities. The first *18 minutes* of our session were filled by Susan asking about personal things like my occupation, etc. that felt irrelevant. It wasn't small talk - she took notes.. I've never experienced this before-- every other person I've worked with has jumped right into the reading. I kept my responses brief, and was feeling antsy to begin, so I did my best to move her along and made reference to specific aims and questions I had in mind. By this point I was watching the clock closely and was eager to get to the part of the reading when she would make contact with my dog, which is what I've come to expect working with several other animal communicators over several years. The "reading" proceeded and turned into what felt more like a therapy session with a well-meaning but subpar clinician who leaned heavily into advice giving and sharing circuitous things from her own personal life. She claimed that these bits from her personal life came to her because they related to how my dog was feeling -- well, in that case, skip the personal story and just share the takeaway: "Some things are coming through that give me the impression that he's still able to be fairly active, but he's ready to pass". When I am paying $225 for an hour-long session, it is quite frustrating when the minutes are ticking by and I'm hearing about her elderly neighbor and what he said to her husband -- please just tell me what is relevant to me. I left the session with most of my questions unanswered, despite asking them clearly and directly. Each time I asked a direct question, she paused and would be silent with her eyes closed for 1-2 minutes. She would then pose a question to me, and then simply validate my brief response without providing any additional insight and without saying anything in reference to my dog's experience. It was as if there was never a connection established between her and my pet, and it felt like she was just riffing it. (Example) "I'd like to know about his relationships with his pet siblings" (Susan silent for 2 minutes, then asks: "Do they get along?") "Yes, they do" (Susan smiles and says "Ah, yes, they get along"). That's it. She literally dropped it and said nothing more. For real?! Or she referenced one of the photos of my dog that was sent to her in advance, that showed him lying in his dog bed. She just said, "That looks like his safe space. Is it? That's great. You'll want to focus on keeping him where he feels safe". Much of the session had the tenor of generic feedback from someone who is knowledgeable about euthanasia and end-of-life care considerations -- not someone who is psychically communicating with an animal in the here-and-now. At one point in the reading, out of the blue she started probing into my career trajectory, at which point I stated that I was not in a headspace to think about my career and wanted to focus on my dog's experience, feelings and needs. Again, I booked an animal communication session. It did not feel like she was connecting with my pet, and so it left me wondering whether she was grasping at straws. To her credit, Susan held space beautifully for the most part, she has a calm demeanor and facilitated a rather difficult conversation around euthanasia and end-of-life considerations. She struck me as empathic, in that she reads the *humans'* emotions pretty well and picked up on some growing edges, in terms of personal growth: "You need to value your own needs and stop putting others above yourself" kind of self-help stuff. I did not feel that the session was a total waste of time, simply because it provided a space for difficult conversation and reflection. But I came away with the gnawing sense that she was unable to actually open up a connection with my dog. I want to remain open and give the benefit of the doubt, like maybe sometimes a pet's human caregivers need to receive particular messages and the highest good is not in fact hearing from a pet directly... but if that's the case, then it is important to communicate that transparently so that expectations are adjusted. read more

I love my doggie as we all do and I needed to understand what was best while I traveled and frankly to know what that time had the potential to be for her in a positive way as well as myself. I have gone to many psychics over the years and can be clear within a short amount of time about their skill and talent level and whether they have accurately tuned into my situation, and I was really impressed. Also, by the end of the reading, I was at peace for both myself and Lolly, my puppies. I cannot recommend her more highly. My husband and I consulted with Susan in late January just after deciding to euthanize our sweet, 15-year-old dog, Sparky. As much as I told myself the goal wasn't to hear her say we were making the right decision, in reality, I still very much hoped to hear that. I also feared Susan might say the opposite--that she wasn't intuiting the moment was right, which would have greatly increased our anguish. So it was with some anxiety that I moved forward, encouraging myself to have faith in the decision we'd already made, and the idea that a session with Susan might shed some light on the situation. What I didn't anticipate was how much she would actually help Sparky. Susan visited our home the afternoon before the vet came to the house. She sat down beside a pretty sleepy pup and talked quietly with us while he slept. She also sat in silence beside him, just listening in the quiet. After a little while, she expressed that the Sparky she was intuiting in the moment seemed very different from the Sparky of a few years ago. She said she tried to communicate to him that tomorrow morning he'd be leaving this realm and would soon be free of all his pain, but she wasn't sure she was getting through to him--she just kept intuiting "a lot of fog." We explained he had dementia. After more moments of just sitting, Susan said she'd asked him what he needed, and again, the fog, but the word "peace" came to her. She mentioned that his desire for peace was not only for him, but for us, too. While we were talking to Susan in the entryway as she was leaving, Sparky got up, walked across the room, and sat down beside her. She knelt down to say goodbye, and he gave her lots of kisses--in the way that he used to do when he appreciated people. This was very unusual for him--he'd long since given up socializing. The next morning we took Sparky for a neighborhood walk before the vet was due to arrive. To our surprise, he ran for several blocks (his arthritis kept him from doing that for the last 9 months), walking all the way to an old haunt of his, a local cafe. We sat on benches outside, and Sparky ate some of his favorite pastries that he'd long since lost interest in, all while looking in the direction opposite from home--he was ready to keep going. Sparky's passing was very peaceful. I've revisited that moment too many times in the past 4 months, unfortunately, but one thought that increasingly reverberates for me is how willingly he seemed to lie down. I usually don't do reviews very often. However, I feel like this review is very necessary. I think it is so important for people who work with individuals from a spiritual or perhaps psychic perspective to be provided with feedback so that they can continue to grow, be authentic and honest with the people that they work with. I was referred to Susan Stark in 2016. I scheduled an appointment and met with her at her home in Berkeley in October of 2016. Her home was nice, had positive energy and was very warm and inviting. Susan read tarot cards that described me with complete accuracy. I was astonished. Moreover, Susan was very attentive and seemed to be in tune as evidenced by her stating that I would give birth to a baby girl. In October of 2017 I gave birth to my daughter. In addition, she told me that I was going to be hired for a certain company. The next month, November 2016 I was in fact hired for the company that Susan stated. Furthermore, she was able to state the first initial of someone that I was dating at the time. Susan told me that she didn't think that he was in a good mental space to be in a relationship and she was right. She also told me that I had a vitamin deficiency that I needed to look into. My doctor confirmed her prediction two months later. I could not believe that Susan was capable of reading my life and providing so much clarity. I was able to take notes during the reading and I had almost six pages filled with accuracy after meeting with her. I laughed and at times I cried. I would review the reading notes from time-to-time over the years. Fast forward to Friday, April 21, 2023 I had a reading with Susan via Zoom. It was beyond awful to say the least. In fact, it was egregious. I am not sure if it is harder for Susan to pick up on energy when using Zoom. It just seems like she wasn't prepared. I stated three things that I was seeking guidance for. She wrote down those things and stated "I am about to share some information that is not directly about what you are asking, but it all connects/relates." (It did not) Susan did not provide me with any clarity. She kept repeating the same phrase "you have to learn to forgive." I stated to Susan multiple times that I am aware that I need to learn how to forgive. However, nothing she shared was enlightening, beneficial and the like. There were also those awkward moments of silence that she kept trying to fill space with by talking about subject matters that were not relevant at all. Susan never used tarot cards or even tried to connect with me. I have never had a reading without tarot cards. It seems like she was totally checked out. Can people lose their clairvoyant gift? This was clearly not the same Susan that I met back in 2016. I am not sure what happened, but it was not a reading. I could have done what she did. Susan did not put in any effort. Why charge such a high fee to deliver nothing? I appreciate the work that Susan did in 2016. However, as previously stated, something has shifted. I will not be returning. I wanted to start off with...I'm intuitive reader as well, as well as holding an MA in Psych, so my barometer for most things communication oriented is far higher than most. On the plus side, Susan was super accomodating with my reading, fitting me in last minute, and demonstrating some sweet email follow through. She is very sweet, kind, caring, and gentle, and I almost feel like saying "don't mean to hurt your feelings, but this gotta be said." I agree with the reviewer who said she'd make a good basic counselor or something like that. Parts of the reading were highly accurate, so credit for that. The tone reading itself felt off, particularly in the way the material was presented. There was an overall sense of "quit following your dreams because its not going to work out and you will be stuck with some of your problems forever." Not exactly that, to be sure, but that was the icky feeling I was left with. And a few suggestions to solve a specific problem. Ok, but the suggestion given would in no way actually resolve the problem! As a reader myself, there is a skillful, compassionate way to break challenging news to a client, and thats more like "there is a present day struggle with xyz, but by looking at D you can heal the situation." Susan is sweet and friendly. But she didn't tell me anything I didn't already know. She was a bit repetitive and advised me to do something I had already planned to do. I paid $185 so I felt disappointed. More than a year has passed since our session. At first, I wondered whether my expectations were unreasonably high. Also, I always hesitate to post a less-than-positive review for fear of shooting off my mouth, then regretting it later. So I decided to consult an intuitive counselor and make a comparison. For me, the comparison substantiates my original disappointment. Last March, I spoke by phone to Pam Flowerday, who charges $150 for a one-hour session. I am eternally grateful for Pam's ability to elicit information, add insightful commentary and provide a whole new perspective on long-buried memories. Pam asked the perfect questions to unlock material germane to my current issues--a process that made me feel important to her. I don't remember Susan asking questions. Maybe she just works differently. I noticed other Yelp reviewers praise Susan's insight and perception. Maybe she just didn't connect with me. I understand that happens sometimes. I sought Susan's help when experiencing a feeling of being stuck and having a lot of issues that I thought I had resolved and people from my past coming up for me. She is very warm and welcoming and as a clairvoyant, she is the real deal. I framed my question around my path and purpose and what I could be doing to help myself right now. The information she received and communicated to me didn't have to do with the relationships that were on my mind, but with a key relationship that I needed to see more clearly and work on to be able to move forward in other parts of my life. My spirit guides also had really nice, positive messages for me. What she relayed to me has given me a lot to think about and what is great about Susan is that she doesn't just give you the message that she is getting, she asks for constructive ways that you can help yourself. She gave me real concrete advice for what I could do to help myself in the way that my spirit guides communicated to her. And strangely or serendipitously, 2 hours after our session I received an email from someone I hadn't communicated with in 7 years; a heartfelt apology that meant a lot to me. Susan is very flexible about ways to benefit from her guidance- you can go once to work on a problem, you can see her yearly on an anniversary, like your birthday, or you can go regularly to work through areas more intensively. As an update to my previous review about my disappointing reading with Susan, I would like to mention that she admitted that occasionally there can be a disconnection and that she was sorry that it seemed to have happened between she and I. I had my first reading today with Susan and strongly recommend her to anyone interested in connecting to their spirituality or sense of direction on their path. Susan is clearly gifted and seemed to connect with ease to her own intuition and spirit in the service of identifying aspects of my own that were in need of attention or guidance. I have actually had two readings from Susan so far. I had one back in April (I think) of 2014, and one recently, this December, 2014. The first reading was a full, in depth one. And we covered several topics that were important to me. I took notes and have referred to them since. The information she'd given me had been very useful to me for this past near year. I would say that I didn't make the decisions that, perhaps, I should have made based on her reading, but that I made informed decisions with better awareness. And this has helped me immensely. I think that ultimately it is our PERSONAL decisions that determine the outcomes of our lives, and we cannot blame anyone else. But so many of our emotional problems come from unexpected events or false expectations that lead to disappointments. My reading with Susan was like preparation for the possible outcomes of my decisions. In this way, I felt less disappointment when things had not gone as planned, or when I made a decision I felt was not the best, but I did anyway. I kept her words in mind, and they clarified everything. Some topics we spoke of gave me great hope for my progress in those areas. And indeed, I've progressed greatly in those areas. In her most recent reading, I also found her information/findings to be very useful and very relevant. Again, whether or not anything she said was what I WANTED to hear wasn't what made it useful. I am grateful to have these tools in my toolbelt to avoid making poor decisions. And I can be aware of when I choose to make a poor decision, so I can be avoid being traumatized by the outcome. :) Also, I found Susan to be very kind and comforting as a person.
