I've been going here since Sept or so, when my insurance (aetna) kicked in for me. After looking at specific dentists through my PPO in-network, reading reviews on yelp and other dentistry accredited review sites, I landed here for a number of reasons: proximity to work, appointment times offered, and real reviews from yelp. :) My dentist is actually Dr Drew Almodovar, as I understand Dr Millar & Dr Wang are at the Huntington Beach location, and Dr Drew's name is now a part of the cards and websites. The staff here is friendly and understanding of any anxieties you may have in regards to dental work. The Dental Assistants are really nice and everyone has a calm demeanor with their presence. Music is calm (think XM Radio Spa/Waterscape). Every patient's situation is unique, and I'm still in the process of restoring and repairing my teeth. It's a process for sure, but Dr Drew and his team do everything they can to make sure I understand what's happening and that I'm comfortable with the procedures, as well as comfortable during the procedures. I'll update this review once my procedures are all done, but for now, I'm very comfortable with recommending this office to anyone that asks. Pro-Tip: Bring head phones and a good bumpin' playlist for your appointments, so you don't have to listen to the whirring and buzzing sounds of the tools! I decided on Dr Susan Millar first time because of new insurance. Although I had never had one before, Millar informed me I had multiple cavities, although she was "not sure as they could be shadows" and presented me with a treatment plan that insurance would pay ($800+). Why not first confirm they are cavities rather than drill on my teeth?! The hygienist "cleaned" my teeth but didn't brush or polish as is customary. They do it when you come back for follow up procedure. Since my visit with Millar, my subsequent visits with other dentists revealed, guess what, NO CAVITIES. She also did a little procedure that I later found out was not necessary for my situation but she would not finish the visit without doing it and charged me out of pocket costs. What I realize now is she needed to cover her hygienist's cost. Dr Susan Millar overcharges. and she is either dishonest or incompetent.  Please get a SECOND OPINION before getting treatment by Millar. Most insurance plans cover this to protect you.  This is what happened and I want others to be informed. Doctor, although you will protest, I say the proof is in the subsequent visits to other dentists. I use yelp all the time to decide if I want to visit a place, unfortunately, I always read the negative reviews first. I guess it is human nature to look to see how bad could it be. Some folks are just nasty and mean. They will be negative for any reason. I think people are just super critical and look to express there anger on yelp! lol Overall, after reading some reviews, I want to share my experience. My experience with Dr Susan Millar and the entire staff has been more than pleasant. I am self employed, I am a trader, and I bought into Dr. Millar $99 program. She has a program for people who pay out of pocket. It covers the entire family. I pay out of pocket for my dental care, f insurance companies. P.S. (that is not a negative, I didn't name the office that was on macarthur and bristol?) lol Well, it was a friday night, and I thought I would give Dr. Susan office a call to see if they were open on a Saturday. Noted, she is not open on Saturday, but, she called me first thing in the morning because she listens to the voicemails, and had me come into the office on a Saturday morning. She told me she could meet me there in an hour. This review is my gratitude. Dr. Susan came in on a Saturday morning with her family and put a temporary crown in for me. She was headed out with her family, and stopped in to take care of a patient, and it was not even her work she was fixing. So for that, I am grateful and I recommend Susan. She is just a great Dentist, a better person and she really cares about her patients. How many times would a Dentist come in, with her FAMILY, on the weekend, to help a patient? I asked for the paperwork from 3 years ago after I recieved the FIRST bill 2.5 years later, even though I've been to this office several times since then. I paid for this bill with my care credit and the office sends me threating Bill's for something I already paid for and refused to send me copies of all paperwork because they know it's already been paid through my care credit card. read more

Have you ever seen extreme makeover and after they reveal the patient start ugly crying ? Yeah well that was me the last 2 days.. I found dr Millars office via yelp and was sold on the reviews. I made an appointment and went in for the first time yesterday 8/6, I had cavities on all my front teeth, chipped parts,. And decay due to a vitamin d deficiency that left me with soft spots and eventually ruined my teeth over 2 years.. I typically get super anxious because I knew I had a lot of work to be done and was not looking forward to yet another dentist tell me I need 10k worth of work. I went in, had my x rays.. I was instantly made comfortable by the amazing team.. after seeing the list of work and the amount I ugly cried in the office.. they took the time to calm me down and show me what was covered by my insurance (denti cal) I was amazed that a majority of it was and they even offered to start the work right then.. I sat back and they got started on the fillings on my front teeth.. I told them all I wanted was to be able to smile again.. and they did not disappoint! They handed me the mirror and I cried all over the place! I have never been so happy, I looked like me again! I went back today to continue the work on my teeth in front, I have extremely sensitive teeth and while i was uncomfortable at times, they took the time to let me take breaks and made sure i was okay through it.. afterward they showed me the progress and again.. tears all over again . I was told by many dentists my teeth were done for and no point in saving them.. and the team here said the opposite. They are savable, let's save them while we can.. Yall this is litterally in 48 hours.. the before picture was the day before my appointment... and with denti cal, the fillings I needed were completely covered!!! I did not pay a penny out of pocket! I was referred to this office and what an absolute pleasant Surprise! Kimmie up front is very professional, sweet and accommodating. Then there's Shannon the rock star RDH. Aside from these girls being easy on the eyes they go above and beyond and are very patient and attentive. DDS Drew must've gone to Harvard because he is the best dentist I've ever had. I went here for the first time today and had a great experience. They accept Medi-Cal Dental, which is how I found them. Everyone there was great. Kevin at the front desk was very friendly and helpful. Dana was wonderful and gave me a painless, thorough cleaning. Dr. Drew was great as well. They also have a reassuring blurb on the intake form that talks about their Covid precautions. Everyone had PPE and it seemed as safe as possible given the circumstances. Highly recommend! read more

It is now July 7, 2021 and I have yet to receive their "excellence in dentistry". In fact quite the opposite. The doctor is great but having to push thru the front desk staff is like stepping on glass barefoot. Two squawking chicken he who talk garbage about patients while I was sitting in the lobby. "I wish she would stay in her lane" was one of the comments. Also discussing how another patient was trying to get pregnant and couldn't and was paying for in vitro. They entered my dob wrong, telling me "you're not covered". I mean going back and forth only to find out someone doing data entry can't type. Needless to say the actually dental cleaning and medical part is great. I just won't be back due to the front desk heckle and jeckle. I have always thought me and dentists were mortal enemies. I have been ripped off, had bad work done before, bad crowns, and bad experiences with demeanor.. so i stayed away. I But, you cant avoid dentists forever. I was sent via insurance elsewhere, but i was referred to this office. My primary dentist sent me here as a referral to see if i needed 2 root canals. Dr. Drew took his time to examine my teeth and took the most conservative approach possible. Dr. Drew did two fillings and saved me the pain of root canals and expense of crowns. He did what he needed to do, no more. He was kind, patient, explained everything, caring, rendered no judgment. He did the best job numbing me I ever had (usually i need more halfway through). If you are the kind of person who worries about dentists recommending uneeded work, come here. Or if you are worried about what a dentist will say, come here. If you want to get your mouth back on track but dont know who to trust, trust Dr. Drew and this office. I have never experienced a dental office filled with such kind compassionate people. If only I could give negative star ratings! I was referred to this dental office by my insurance carrier for immediate treatment of an abscess. Their earliest appointment was the following Tuesday even after I explained my urgent need. I came in this past Tuesday and after filling out the new patient forms, Melanie or Millody (the VICIOUS front office person, hereafter referred to as "VM") told me very harshly that I must provide my social security number or not be treated. I declined, explaining my concerns about identity theft, and the law that protects my right to decline, and that my treatment (open in med) was pre-authorized by my insurance. She yelled at me for 10 minutes but I stood my ground on this issue. Finally, they took me back for treatment. I only wanted x-rays taken of the problem area, but "VM" insisted on them doing full-mouth x-rays and a New Patient Exam. I'm not sure why the front desk person was in the treatment room bossing me around. (more $$ for them) Two VERY nice ladies took the x-rays. (They must hate working with these other people) I was then seen by Dr. Wang, who started off by pressuring me for 5 minutes about giving my SS# and I again explained my position on this and declined to provide it. She then did the exam, notifying me that I would be in need of 2 root canals, saying she would submit my x-rays for authorization from my insurance and call me to schedule another appointment once the authorization came back. HELLO.. IS ANYBODY COMPETENT HERE? Now I ask her (DR. Wang) to please provide the treatment that I came in for. I was in terrible pain with an obvious abscess that needed immediate treatment. "open in med" where they drain and medicate the tooth, to relieve the abscess and pain. She sent me to the desk to see VM to have her verify my coverage for that procedure. VM argued with me that this procedure was not covered by my insurance, and SHE KNOWS this to be a fact!! I insisted she call my insurance to prove it was covered, since I could no longer argue with ignorance. VM said she didn't have time because they were closing for lunch, and I would have to come back at 2:20. I waited outside in my car until 2:20 and when I returned, she reluctantly and huffily made the call. YES, it was COVERED and pre-authorized. She went in the back to talk to the DR. and came back 20 minutes later, with a new excuse. VM said that my insurance will cover the treatment, but not on the same day that I had full-mouth x-rays.(which I never wanted in the first place) I knew she was lying but I was absolutely exhausted of her and after 3 hours, I was done. She scheduled me for Friday (next available appt.) and I went home in the same pain I walked in with. But wait, it gets worse.... Thursday I receive a text confirming my Friday appointment. Great!! An hour later I get a call from VM, telling me that the doctor refuses to treat me on Friday, since I didn't give them my SS#. I had already spoken to my insurance company earlier this same day and was informed that Dr. Millar's office had submitted for authorization for 3 root canals (she told me I needed 2) and that the authorization had been approved. WTF!!! I told "VM" that I would be keeping my Friday appointment and she yelled and hung up on me. She called back a few hours later and began yelling at me again, telling me that I can not come in on Friday. I asked to speak directly to the Dr. and was put on hold forever, then told she was not available? so I requested a call back from her, which never came. Now I have to go to a new dentist, wait for an appointment, and meanwhile suffer and hopefully not die from the poison this abscess is putting in my system. Why would anyone hire such a vicious person to be the first impression of their practice. What DR. puts their petty SS# requirement ahead of patient care. What ever happened to "DO NO HARM"? Don't dentists take the Hippocratic Oath? Why did they submit for authorization to my insurance or put me through all the x-ray radiation an exam and returning after lunch, when they should have not wasted my time and health. So Very Unprofessional!! Had they refused to treat me on Tuesday I could have gone to another dentist and received the treatment I needed by now. Even worse, they'll get paid by my insurance for useless x-rays and exam!! RipOff!!! I'll be filling a complaint with the dental board and posting this nightmare on every review site that I can find. Hopefully, it will save someone else from this terrible place. In this day and age, requesting SS#'s is fine, but making it Mandatory is just Crazy. I wasn't asking for credit and told them I would pay any out of pocket costs in cash up front, prior to any treatment, should it be needed. My insurance pays the entire cost, with no co-pay, and they knew this. I've never had a high pressure dental appointment before. Service this bad is very rare. I can see by some other reviewers that "VM" treated them like crap, too. read more

Employees do whatever they want here. Very rude key staff. I called to get my medical information and receptionist brushed me off and said would call me back in an hour. Five hours later I called to follow up and got the office manager, Melody. Wow...I have never spoken to someone in charge who is so rude and condescending! How is she allowed to speak to customer this way??? She refused to help me and said original employee would call me back. Nothing! Called back a few days later and now employee was just as rude as office manager! They obviously talked about my request, because she told me in a very rude way that I had already spoken to Melody (office manager). She apparently got the "blessing" from the office manager to chalk me up as a nuisance. She treated me like a pain in the a** when all I needed was my medical information! If the dentists allow this kind of behavior from employees and especially an "office manager", I am looking for a new office. read more

Dr. Wang has been my dentist for a few years now, I actually followed her here from a different office. She's always been very good about explaining what procedures I need done and has even let me know which to prioritize, as I do not have dental insurance and cannot always afford it. I think she's the first dentist I've been to where I'm not completely dreading the experience. The office staff is also great, I like their text reminders/appointment confirmations. Also, I had to go back once after two weeks to get a crown put on and the reception asked me if I had colored my hair (I did). Props to attention to detail. read more

I came to Dr. Millar's dental practice about a month ago after I had an accident and chipped two of my teeth. Dr. Drew and his staff made me feel so comfortable, and he fixed my teeth that day even though it was almost closing time. Dr. Drew called me personally the next morning to check on me, and since then, I have gone back for a full dental cleaning and x-rays. Dr. Millar helped me this time, and she was amazing as well. I had deep cleaning and tooth extraction done here recently. The staff was very professional and caring. They went thru my x-rays & went through each tooth with me. Very patience & explained procedure & answered questions. Work was painless & professional, made sure I was comfortable. Advised on flossing and what electric tooth brush to use. I used to see Dr. Mircheff and continued to come here after he retired. Yesterday, I saw Dr. Coleman who works out of the office. I had to get a few cavities filled. I was very nervous to have a new person inside my mouth, but I must say it was a great experience. I didn't even feel the injection (for me this is the part I am most afraid of) and his chair side manner is excellent. The procedure was fast and I had 3 things done. I don't need to go back for a bite adjustment and was not even sore after. It did not even feel like I had anything done after the numbness wore off. The office is still a great place to visit and the hygienists (Marie and Heidi) are still there. I look forward to my teeth cleaning appointment in October and highly recommend this office for all of your dental needs. The office is clean and beautiful.
