I came here to get some dental work done and was charged an arm and a leg!! I wanted to give this dentist the benefit of the doubt but it's true people check your insurance first before coming here! You will be charged for additional "fees. " I am filing a grievance against them for charging me thousands of dollars that was unnecessary. Also I had work done here and I kept wondering why doesn't she do a deep cleaning first and proceed with the procedures?? Like you want to cleanse the exterior before you do any deep work? Anyways, because of this I feel she did a mediocre job and didn't do a good job with my fillings. Seems like all this doctor cares about is taking your money. She gives no explanation or education on how to care for your teeth. I questioned her about my gums bleeding and no explanation. I am now going to a different provider and turns out I have gum disease!! Ridiculous that I spent so much money on dental work here in order for it to be redone because Dr. Hanna did a poor job. Same exact experience as a previous reviewer from a year ago, but a year later. Sad that things haven't changed. Went in for a general cleaning as a new patient since my insurance changed as a result of a new job. I have Delta Dental HMO now, I made sure to review my coverage before going in for a cleaning since I saw reviews of people warning against this prover trying to charge fees that are covered by insurance. Still decided to give them the benefit of the doubt. I have no complains for the front desk gals or the tech that took my X-rays. But as soon as Dr. Hanna evaluated me, she said I would have to pay a $45 fee. I was already charged a $5 copay when I checked in with the front desk. I told Dr. Hanna that I had checked with my insurance and the cleaning should be free (D1110 Prophylaxis cleaning), she said no and continued to want to charge me $45 claiming it was due to me having HMO insurance. I said in that case, I didn't feel comfortable proceeding and that I would talk to my insurance again. Called them the same day and confirmed I should not be charged for a 6 month routine cleaning. I immediately changed dentists to Dentist of HB down the road from Pavilion Dental and during my first visit, they broke down everything they would be doing upfront and confirmed $0 charge for my cleaning. Definitely recommend them if you have Delta Dental. Be warned again Pavilion Dental. read more

Today, I went in for a teeth cleaning and was told it would be $290.00 without any explanation. I said I just wanted the 2x time per year cleaning and was told it was $45.00. When I questioned that I get 2 cleaning per year I was told that my plan didn't include free cleanings. I came home and checked my dental plan. Per my plan, Delta Dental D1110 Prophylaxis cleaning-adult-1D1110m D1120 or D4346 per 6-month period is $5.00. I already paid the $5.00 but they were still going to charge me an additional $45.00. I had reviewed before but it did not get posted. First time, little or no greetings I was shown the charged and asked if they were all covered and the de answered "yes" . Through a mask, an assistant mumbled words I am certain would not be understood with a mask. No greeting, all business. Cleaning had no conversation or understanding of what was to be done. At the end, I got a paper on a clipboard to be signed for $100 for antiseptic procedure. I had never heard of this and questioned it, and I was told "all our customers love it" it appeared not to be an option, and later I learned it was an Upsell. When I was looking for a new dentist , I discovered that half of my office coworkers had been going Dr. Chao and though his office is not close to me, I decided to give Pavilion Dental a try. Once I got there, I saw a "best of ____" (consumer based voting) award when I signed in. It was at that point that I realized that I had found a dentist for keeps (meaning that even when I temporarily moved 800 miles away, I still flew down to see Dr. Chao.) I will admit that I have spent countless hours in many a dentist chair. While no patient receives a degree for this, many are observant as to sequences, procedures, and sometimes have the presence of mind to ask "why" when it comes to something specific. With Dr. Chao, I have found his style and compassion to be top notch. If there is a mistake, which is highly doubtful, he fixes it... not ifs, ands, or buts. He is meticulous in his procedures and compromise is not part of his vocabulary. His office staff is nothing less that warm an hospitable putting me at ease before I head into a situation that and would rather not experience. (I am one of those cheek squeezing patients.) The office is located in a shopping center, so parking is not a problem. The inhouse financing is a true benefit for the out of pocket expenses you might come across. If you have mid weeks off (Tuesday/Wednesday/Thursday) those are the only days they are open so plan accordingly. You will not regret your selection of Pavilion Dental.... I had high hopes for this place because I felt my first appointment went really well, but after going there about 3 times I don't think I'll be going back. Here are my pros and cons and ultimately why I won't be going back. Pros: - Staff is very helpful and friendly! When I was a new patient I was having issues with my insurance and they handled it all, saving me a lot of time and energy! - Always have appointment slots available - Took me quickly when I had an emergency, gave me xrays. Cons: - Dentist only spent 10 minutes cleaning my teeth. I did not feel like she did a good job. - When she was cleaning my teeth she did NOT scrape my teeth or provide me with mouthwash. I feel like those are pretty standardized cleaning methods when you go for a cleaning. - When I went to my emergency appointment she basically told me there was nothing she could do. She may have been right, but it still was not reassuring that the problem would go away on its own. - This is not mandatory, but she did not provide the complimentary toothbrush, floss, and toothpaste that is normally provided at the end of a visit. Again, not a deal breaker, but still nice to receive after a visit. Overall I did not feel like my teeth were clean after leaving. I stopped going here after realizing that the dentist was always trying to rip me off and scam my insurance. Be sure to check the itemized list of proposed services before you pay, I found a couple things that she was charging me for that were unrelated to why I was there. The dentist told me not to worry about it since the insurance was going to pay for it but it affects me because I would reach my insurance cap earlier. She only took it off after I pointed it out. Pros, generally nice people. Cons, I went for Invisalign cost 4760$ that is much more than other places I got quotes from but they mentioned it will come with (2) sets of retainers included in the price plus like I mentioned they were very nice people so i went with them. Had to go through refinement twice, during first course my teeth would not move for 40 days (4 aligner) doctor said she does not know what to do and this never happened before, she had me go back to older aligners and wear them longer, still no improvement, finally she approves to do the refinement after another 40 days. 2nd refinements because my teeth was still crowded and misaligned when the second course was done which the doctor thought it looked perfectly fine. When finally done I received only one set of cheap retainers (not two as initial agreement) which broke after only 3 months (it had 6 months warranty and she did replace it) and had to spend a week not wearing any retainers until the new one is received (according to her I should wear them for 22hrs per day for the 1st year). Doctor charge 550$ for new set of retainers which is ridiculous. Advise: Do not go to a general dentist, do your self a favor and either go to an orthodontist who knows and cares for what he is doing or go for online service for a fraction of the cost like smart direct club. read more

Today i had a wonderful and professional experience with DR amal i was extracting my wisdom tooth and i was really panicking and the staff and the dr was really understanding and guess what i didn't feel even the pinch and she extracted the tooth very smoothly and was really fast and we didn't face any issues in that. Definitely going back again to fix all my teeth and she gave me an affordable deal for the rest of my teeth work. Pavilion Dental Rocks! In the 50 years I've been in So Cal, I have gone to Dr. Chao for 30 of them. This guy is the high tech guru of dentistry. State of the art equipment and an awesome friendly staff that takes care of even your smallest issues and requests. I have been to other dentist's offices through all of my years, but none have compared to the professionalism of this place. Here's the deal...... I first became a patient of Dr. Chao early in his career. Because I needed extensive work at the time, finding out he also had a mechanical engineering degree made me feel like he had an edge on the hands on structural aspect of fixing my teeth. I figured that dentistry, was in part the practice of medicine, but I also knew it involved a lot of artistry. Lets face it, there are probably a thousand different ways you can put in braces, crowns, implants, etc!! On every visit, every procedure was done quickly and painlessly, and I left the office with a smile (even though my mouth was numb!) My wife has had cosmetic work, my kids have had 3 sets of braces, and our family has had our share of crowns and bridges. We couldn't be more happy. So after you've been a patient with the same guy for many years, you get to know him and his staff. He doesn't advertise much, if at all. I think most of the patients are there by word of mouth. Over the years, his practice has become successful enough for him to not work 5 days a week, but when I've called him on emergencies for my kid's toothache, he always made special arrangements to get us in. I don't think we get any "special treatment", that's just how he is. When your sitting in the chair waiting for him or one of his hygienists, you can hear him talking to his other patients and it always amazes me how special he treats everyone. It's like they are all hisfriends, as he knows them by name and what they like to do for fun, how their kids are doing, the vacation they are taking, etc. Bottom line for me is, I've hired and fired many a many a medical doctor, but my family has ONE dentist for life! Dr. Hanna and her team of professionals made our boys feel very comfortable and the movies they put on really put their minds at ease for the cleaning. She said i have few cavities but she never mentioned that some fluoride tooth paste can slow or even stop the decay. she scheduled me right away, she doesn't have a hygienist which i thought was odd. I am new to Delta Dental HMO insurance, which I realize is not a plan with high benefits. My assigned dentist was Amal Hanna DDS of Pavilion Dental on Beach Blvd. I had X-rays taken, and then she discussed my teeth. She said my teeth needed deep cleaning, and it would be $420 [she said she could do this in 40 minutes]. I questioned the necessity, as I had been having my teeth cleaned regularly every 6 months, and the other hygienist's did not recommend that. I asked if I could just have the regular cleaning for now. She said my plan did not cover it. I went back today (Dec 11th) with a copy of the plan benefits, and she was unavailable. I had subsequently gone to another dentist on Nov 28th who confirmed that I did not need deep cleaning. read more

I wish I could give more stars! I LOVE Dr. Hanna! I had been meaning to go to the dentist for a while because I know I need a lot of work done but kept putting it off because the dentist has never been my favorite place to visit.I finally decided to go after getting a horrible tooth ache. I called and was able to get in the same day after work which was super convenient. My sister referred me and someone else referred my sisters husband so that says a lot! My first visit was not scary at all even though I was so nervous and scared going in. The first person I met was Nadine she is very sweet and friendly and helped me calm my nerves. I thought I'd only get X-rays done and be sent with some meds but no...Dr. Hanna told me what I needed done she started working on me to stop the pain even though it was pretty late in the evening. I am so happy I found my new dentist! It can be scary when you need so many things done and are worried about pain or discomfort when going to the dentist but I did not feel anything like that with Dr. Hanna. CUSTOMER BEWARE!! There is a new dentist and her name is Dr. Hanna. If I could give negative stars I would. First off, I went from having zero cavities to 4! I was pressured into getting fillings all in one day with a $1,000 estimated out of pocket expense. No thank you. I am glad I only went with 2 fillings, I was numbed on the right side, all the way up my face, including my eye. Not impressed with the filling as I have filling material on neighboring teeth. Next problem was the fact that I was overcharged $195. When I asked for a refund it took multiple calls to finally receive a refund. Not only do they not return calls as promised they offer every excuse possible to avoid providing a refund. "we can charge you the difference between what we submit to your insurance company and what they pay." NOT TRUE. "we don't have a contract with your insurance company." ALSO not true, they submitted a claim and received payment. "We will credit you the difference for your next service." NOT going to happen as I will not be using your services EVER again! Got four of my wisdom teeth removed on my bday! It was awesome did not hurt one bit! Fearless and skilled Dr. Chao took out my wisdom teeth super fast. Top ones took like a minute each. I've been coming to this office for over 6 months and have recently began Invisalign treatment. The staff here is extremely considerate of my schedule and is helpful in switching my appointments to a time in which works for me.
