My family and I engaged McGuire Wood & Bissette to handle a complex intestate probate process…read moreinvolving multiple jurisdictions and significant assets. We worked specifically with Lisa Rothman and her team. Our initial meeting was productive and encouraging. Through her expertise and a very hard-working paralegal (Justine), we moved the estate forward at rapid speed. Her fees were reasonable; the court filings were handled expeditiously. Her access to other needed resources (CPA's, real estate guidance, ancillary probate, etc.) was invaluable. At no time did I feel that the process was not moving forward. As the court appointed Administrator, I was able to navigate the process with ease and confidence. I am so appreciative of everything this firm has done to support my family during a difficult time. I highly recommend this firm to anyone in need of quality, professional Legal counsel. Leslie P.

Two weeks later nothing. Nadda. I pinged her. Nothing. Nadda. Two days later I pinged her again. She responded, asking if I was still interested in moving ahead. (Pretty irritating, after her promising 18 days earlier to send a proposal but so it goes). She wrote: "I have preliminary notes for a proposal and am happy to finalize it if you are proceeding." I responded that day, saying that I was moving ahead with the transactions we discussed one way or another, and that "Yes, I would love to get a proposal." Two weeks later, still no proposal. 4 days later, I pinged her again, asking if she was "sick or something...anything." It had now been well over a month since she had promised a proposal. Finally, she responds with, "Unfortunately, I'm afraid that my current workload will not allow me to work with you in the timeframe you need for a successful transaction." What a complete waste of time. This delayed me moving ahead on several fronts by six weeks. What a completely inconsiderate way to treat a prospective client...to treat anyone. If she didn't want me as a client tell me that six weeks ago. If she didn't have time to take on a client don't agree to meet me for a consultation. Ugh.

We used Rich Maita for two previous real estate transactions which were, with some constant…read morecontact, done sufficiently. But when we used them to facilitate the closing of our Lake Lure home, it seemed to all fall apart. Every aspect of the transaction was poor to say the least. I believe it all stems from a lack of communication on their part. I was handed off to several acolytes in the process and had to constantly reach out to each one to get a response. On the day before the closing I initiated contact once more with an assistant to learn from her that I was not needed, in person, to be present at the signing. Then the day of the signing I called again to confirm this and the responsible assistant was out to lunch from 11 to 2:30 when I finally received an return call stating that I was to be present in 10 minutes or the lawyer was not going to complete the transaction. We rushed down to his office and never got to see the settlement statement until after we arrived. The big surprise was that the prequoted price of $450 for his services had increased to $650. After complaining he reluctantly agreed to rebate $200 of his fee. I honestly feel this was too much considering the lack of attention we received. We were extremely disappointed in the service we didn't receive.

The interaction I had with Mr. McDuffy was great! He was pleasant and prompt. The star of the show, however, was Ana. She is very polite, professional, and an absolute pleasure to deal with. I was quite delinquent in getting her paperwork she requested weeks prior, and never lost her patience or professionalism. At closing, too, she took the blame for something that was clearly my fault, and kept me from looking like an idiot. That wasn't necessary, but very much appreciated! This is my real estate law firm of choice moving forward. Thanks for the wonderful experience, Ana!

My case involved a breach of fiduciary responsibility on the part of my dual broker that I was deceived by, a major NC state real estate company, and a seller who conspired with the broker to commit the fraud to steal my money. I spent over two years going through hell and surviving in conditions that no one should have to endure. This caused me psychological trauma from which I will always bear the scars. Unfortunately, NC is one of the states which do not provide compensation for psychological pain and suffering, but Edd did his best to recover some of my money so I could move on with my life. In the past, I have heard so many times from people that they don't trust attorneys this days anymore, and that's probably true, but it is not the case with Edd. During my time working with Edd, I discovered that he was not only an experienced trial attorney but also a good person. Edd is a compassionate and hardworking attorney who puts his clients' best interests first; he is not afraid to fight for what is right and is committed to helping those who have been wronged. I will always be grateful to Edd Ferikas and paralegal Beth Mahan for handling my case with attention to details and a relentless pursuit of justice in my favor along with his big heart.

I left a voicemail with her admin that day, but never heard back. On Tuesday, Feb. 17, I called back again. This time her admin did answer and told me she didn't receive a voicemail from me on Monday, Feb. 16. I explained what was going on and why I was seeking legal help. The admin took down my information, explained pricing (just fyi the pricing I was quoted for the per hour rate at this firm is roughly in the 89th percentile when compared to the average per hour rates of attorneys in the state of NC) and told me she would need to run a "Conflict of Interest" form. The admin told me she would get back to me by the close of business on Tuesday, February 17 or at the latest, Monday, February 23. Apparently, the admin was going on vacation and would be out of the office February 18-20. Today is Thursday, February 26 and I still had not received a call back from this admin. I just called and the admin told me she had been really busy since returning from vacation and was trying to get caught up...not my problem at all! She explained that my "Conflict of Interest" form came back ok but that she was waiting to hear from Mrs. Goldstein as to whether or not she would be interested in the case. The admin told me they are really busy and can't always get back to potential clients within 24 hours...10 days is significantly different than 24 hours, which is how long it had been since my initial contact with the firm. I don't have a problem paying a premium for potential services that will be rendered by a professional. However, having said that, I do expect premium customer service in return...that simply was not the case with my experience with this firm. So, now, I am 10 days in to this process and starting back over at square one!
