Once we entered the Zwin area, there were plenty of signs explaining the park, the habitats, the wildlife, and the history. The trails were fairly well-marked, and designated as for pedestrians, bicycles, or horses. There was a great jack rabbit statue facing the Netherlands, and periodic benches (and trash cans) to enjoy the scenery. There was a working farm a bit inland, but again, since the center was closed, all we could do was read the signs. It was free for us to walk around the park and enjoy the scenery. A great way to experience the coast, particularly the shifting weather, and to see plenty of unique birds.

We decided to do a day trip to Brugge and visit the canals which were breath-taking, as was the architecture and quiet feel of the town. My cousin said her friends rave about the "Lake of Love" so we drove out of our way to pay this spot a visit. Maybe it's because we visited on a gloomy Monday, or because I've been spoiled by Central Park, but I honestly thought this was more like a large pond with a bridge, and a confusing layout for anyone trying to navigate to the spots pictured when you look up the park on Google. Pretty, yes. Worth driving to if you're not in the area? No. Not in my opinion.

There are no horse drawn carriages or bevy of swans at this time, though you may catch a glimpse of a swan or two waddling back to their nests. The Lake at night is eerie, silent and unstirring, where the only movement is the mist rolling across the surface of the water. The porch lights from the nearby homes and churches project a warm light across the lake and you will feel like you are alone in a place that time forgot. If you have a fondness, as I do, for things ancient and seemingly haunted you will not be disappointed.

We got there around 4:50pm. Many things around the city close around 5 or 6 pm so it was a great start to our trip considering it was a tour of 30 minutes. Our boat guide was great and gave us information on the buildings that we saw. The views are some of the best in the city. I highly recommend.
