It is hard to find a groomer with availablity with less than a month's notice. Purr-fectly Superior grooming was available with the drop off option. When I pulled up to the house, I was already skeptical. The paint was chipping all over, a window was broken in the front and the steps to the house did not look safe, but I did not want to judge based on that. Tiffany seemed nice enough and said it would be about 2 hours and I would get a call when there was about 30 minutes left, it was 2:00. The dog is a Cavalier King Charles, so if you know the breed, you know that they are not trimmed all over, so they are less work than other breeds. His hygiene areas, feet and ears were all that were being trimmed. When it was after 3:30 and there was no call, I started getting anxious. The dog is relaxed and was not being fully trimmed so 2 hours was already a long time. I texted and asked if he was doing okay at 3:38. No response. I texted and asked if he would be done soon at 4:15. No response. At 4:25, I called and got no answer so I texted that we were coming there and would wait and still got no response. Later, we were told she doesn't check her phone during grooming, but when you are that late with someone's pet, you should check or call them with an update. My husband and I got to the house and knocked several times. Finally a man answered the door and said that she was giving him a bath and he would be done in 30 to 35 minutes (5:00). Dogs are generally brushed then bathed at the beginning of appointment, so this also concerned me. It seemed like she just started to groom him after I started texting. At that point, I texted Amy, the owner of the business. She volunteered to stop by and check on the dog since she had to drop something off. When she got there, the thing she was dropping off appeared to be a blow dryer. My guess is either Tiffany's was broken or that they share one. Either way, it explains why he was being bathed so late. By now it is 4:45, and Amy told us the dog would be ready in 10 to 15 minutes, which would still be 5:00. At 5:13 I texted Amy that we were still waiting. We had already told her that we had a 5:30 appointment. By now, there was no way that we could make it. At 5:20, Tiffany finally came out. The dog was still wet and I asked about bathing at the end. She said that she and Amy always did it that way and that they don't wash hair they are going to cut off. I knew that Amy did not bathe at the end because she groomed him one time in my mother's house while I watched. I was told the grooming was $150 with Amy's mobile grooming it had been around $100. I have never heard of mobile being cheaper than drop off. I texted Amy and she said she could not say because she did not know what Tiffany did. At the time of the service, there were no prices on her website so I could not see if they had gone up. Tiffany claimed she had to charge the rates Amy set and that they had been raised several times. I went to write a check and was told they do not take checks. This is also not stated on the website. I do not use Venmo, but tried to set it up. It said that I could not use the card. Meanwhile, Tiffany went back inside and left us outside with the dog. We could have easily left, especially after the terrible service and price gouging. Being honest, we waited. In the end, no one could figure out how to get the credit card to work, so my husband and I managed to scrape together the $150, but that was all of our cash. I gave Tiffany the money and told her we used all of our cash to get the $150, so it was exactly that. I also pointed out that in Superior $150 for a drop off like that (a home, not even a business) was a ridiculous price and I would make sure to give them a negative review. Tiffany's response was," do what ya gotta do, with my hundreds of good reviews it won't do nothin'." She then told me she hoped the rest of my trip sucked, called me a b-word and slammed the door. This was at 6:00. I let Amy know about this and she did apologize and made an offer of half off the next grooming with her. She told me a grooming is $85 and anal glands are $25 (drop off and mobile must be charged the same, which does not make sense), I can't imagine anything else was done. His nails were trimmed, but that is generally part of a grooming. On the way to drop the dog back off with my mother, I felt that the ends of his ears were stiff and crunchy. When I lifted them up to check, there was a huge chunk on one ear that was not trimmed. Leaving out the time trying to figure out how to pay, the grooming (that did not include the full body trim just ears, feet, and hygiene areas) took 3.5 hours and he came out wet, shampoo or contitioner still in his fur and his ears not properly trimmed, and I was called an b***h. Horrible experience!

When I asked for details for these additional costs he refused to provide a detailed breakdown of what charges went for what and what these so called extra parts were exactly. He told me flat out he will not provide me anymore details than the generic labor and miscellaneous parts. $1750 was the initial contract and got a bill for an additional $1100 which was never discussed with me. We had some discussion of some extra costs around $300/$400 which I can understand could happen but then the bill came way above what we ever discussed. When I brought it to his attention he stated it is what it is and that's what you owe me. He said he will not provide any further detailed billing breakdown and I owe it. He also stated he could care less about any online reviews because they mean nothing to him. I would never ever recommend them for any work. If so be ready to pay double the contracted quote and have surprise charges around every corner. I unfortunately had to learn from my mistake of hiring him for what was a job he said he did thousands of times. Also the way he treated his son who worked for him was appalling. The constant verbal abuse he used was beyond acceptable and I have video evidence of this from my security cameras on my property. Humes Plumbing is by far the worst experience I have ever had with a trade worker in my life. Use at your own risk and if you do get it in writing that the price won't almost double without your consent.

He was 12 miles north near Hibbing working so he had a job in that area and decided to head home and pick up another job. He charged her $100 dollars for a 12 mile drive to her home, $100 dollars to drive from her home back to Duluth, and it took him about 3 hours to change a wax ring at $100/hour. During his visit, he used his phone to call others and discuss how this was the first time he had to pull the electrical cord out of the wall before working on a toilet along with other phone calls he made or received during this time. (Last time I remember, it took two hands to do plumbing work and you work much SLOWER when you're talking on your phone.) He then handed her a $500 bill and tried to sell her a new toilet. Her toilet is now not working properly since he changed the wax ring. A new wax ring should NOT affect the water flow into the tank. I t seems that he really WANTS TO SELL HER A NEW TOILET and took the measures necessary to do that. My mother does not remember making an appointment so he just showed up. She was actually waiting for a local plumber to get back to her about the job. This company seems like a predatory company that takes advantage of the elderly so watch out if you have elderly relatives that need plumbing work done.
