My partner called this morning to inquire about replacing some glass in a window. When the woman on the phone heard that they were Pella brand windows, instead of a simple, "No sorry we don't service those", she had a lot of sarcastic remarks, including "GOOD LUCK FINDING SOMEONE WHO WILL FIX THOSE." Surf Glass installed windows for us years ago (and we've done business with them quite a few times since). The bracket on one of the windows rusted up and broke so that the window was unusable. I called them to see if they could repair the bracket After they came out to assess the window, Christine (secretary) calls me back to tell me that Harold says they can't repair it - only option is to replace it. I was confused as it's a simple bracket , and they installed our 4 windows upfront, so I asked her why that is. She said she didn't know - that's just what the boss said. Admittedly, I did respond by saying, "Well of course he rather have me replace it and spend over $1000 than to simply have the hinge repaired" Secretary then started YELLING over phone -- "That's not how we work" - so on and so forth. So I asked her to have Harold call me as I really wanted to find out why it couldn't be repaired. Instead of Harold calling back, the same secretary calls me back stating that they no longer do business with the manufacturer and thus can't replace the hinge. I said "I'm sorry Harold put you up to this, but I was hoping to speak to him directly as I've done a lot of business with you guys in the past." She took what I said completely wrong, and she goes from 0-100 and starts to YELL again over the phone stating that "He didn't put me up to anything!" - she siad some other stuff that I couldn't catch because her mouth was going a mile a minute and then calls me rude. She FINALLY puts Harold on the phone - who is the total opposite of her - very calm, collected and he explains why they can't repair iit. He also OFFERS to get me an estimate on a new window. His response seemed legitimate, so I said I was looking forward to the estimate.... A few minutes passes - the secretary calls me back AGAIN and states, "Harold put me up to it - you should go elsewhere" I was like " ok cool" \and she hangs up. The secretary must be related to someone in the office because I've been in the office before when I had to drop off some screens to be repaired and similar conversations took place between her and customers over the phone, She is blatantly nasty, and my husband agreed that she too was rude to him, and he gets along with literally everyone - he's so mild mannered, so it's not just me, However, I never thought that it would be me on the receiving end since I've been a customer there. She was so rude as to go as far to say that I wasn't a customer - my father was - meanwhile I had a $1000 window installed by them not too long ago which I all have receipts in my name for. So, so nasty and rude. I always err on the side of caution when writing reviews because I understand everyone has bad days, but her calling me back multiple times to yell at me is unacceptable, and if Harold did indeed tell her to call me back with that attitude - shame on him as well. Just something to keep in mind when doing business with them - doesn't seem to matter how much business you do, they will still treat you like garbage in the end. read more

I have been going to Surf Glass for 40 years, however I will not be going back again. The bottom of a double hung Anderson window broke in the middle of the night. I called Surf Glass and they came, measured and changed out the window. They took a picture, and I paid for the window. Later that day, I took my grown son upstairs to show him the window and the first thing he said is, "When are they going to change the top one." The top window was completely broken up. I called Surf Glass. They said that it had nothing to do with their repair and that we must have hit the window. We weren't even in the room. Harold took $20 off the second replacement, which he made back on the screen that I had replaced. I called Anderson and they said that it could have been a seal failure or a pressure difference. I thought perhaps from the lower window being replaced. Although, I didn't even ask from more of a discount from Surf Glass, they continued to insist that it could only have happened from someone smashing the window. Since it was not me or my son, I then said if that was the only way, then their guy must have hit it by accident with one of his tools after he took the picture. They denied that as a possiblity, while continuing to assert that it was smashed by someone in the house, in effect calling me a liar, although, he phrased it as I am mistaken. I don't know what happened, but I do know that it was not us, for them to refuse to accept that, even while I am willing to accept that they don't know, is just insulting and bad business. I will not do business with them again and I will no longer recommend them. I have already spoken to the person who recommended them to me 40 years ago and he was shocked. He said, he had always thought better of Harold than that, frankly so did I and that makes me sad read more

I had a window broken during a renovation project after some water damage. In Nov '21 the contractor told me they ordered a balance that was back ordered and tied up in the supply chain. I've been asking consistently about this. Finally, I decided to take matters into my own hands. I went to several window companies, big box stores and glass companies. Everyone gave me a story from - I have to replace the entire window to it can't be fixed. Finally, stopped in Centre Millwork who explained they don't work on the windows I have but said to try Surf Glass since if anyone could fix it they could. I walked down the street. After one visit for an estimate, getting the part and about an hour to fix the window, it's working perfectly and Surf Glass fixed the window within two weeks and for a reasonable price. I am very grateful to these two local businesses who helped solve this problem. I would definitely recommend Surf Glass. Local businesses all the way! By the way, the contractor still is blaming the supply chain! read more

If I could give them zero stars I would. They have no consideration for anyone's time. I needed a window repaired and called them and made an appt for them to come give me an estimate (I wanted them to fix it that day but they said you have to do the estimate first). I took a day off from work on the estimate day. They called me an hour before the end of the window they were supposed to come and said they weren't coming. So I had to take another day off for the "estimate". A surly man measured my window and didn't even open it. He was there for 3 minutes and said Surf Glass would call me with a price. It's been two weeks and I still haven't heard from them. If there was anyone else in Long Beach I would use them. read more

I had a great experience with Surf Glass. I called on a Monday to get a glass tabletop made for my dining table and console, and to replace a broken window pane. I took my car to fix my air conditioning (older model mercedes) get diagnosed, and they said that they took the whole dashboard off (they lied about that as they didn't do anything) and then they gave me an estimate of $1900 !! ha no way.. I then took my car to Warren's car care center in Island park, and what they first said made sense. they said that first they're gonna put freon in it and blue dye to see if anything leaks, then they will further proceed.. and diagnose the car. There were TONS of cars in warrens parking garage as opposed to surf glass.. 15 minutes later, Warrens calls me and told me that all it was was a button that I didn't press and my car was in perfect order and if I were to fix the clicking noise (that only lasted less then a minute) that would cost maybe $1000 and wasn't worth it.. All it was was something that made the air conditioning go into different places.. My air also worked excellent and clocked in at 48 degrees! They could have charged me 125 dollars which most places charge to diagnose mercedes, but they didn't Surfglass as far as fixing cars.. DO NOT GO THERE! RUN THEY ARE THEIVES read more

I went in because my brake light was on and the brakes down to the floor. Took till the next day and they said they replaced the brake line because there was a slice in it. for almost $300. The brakes never came up right. I was still uncomfortable with them being so low and asked a retired mechanic friend to look at my car. Brake fluid was empty and had left two special bolts off the ?? (it talks to the computer) and it was just sitting there in the engine which caused damage to the rear brakes. After fixing everything, the brakes were up to the proper level after replacing the rotors. He was about to take the car for a test drive and the brakes went to the floor. Getting out, he found brake fluid on the ground. The short of this is that they had epoxied the slice on the brake line instead of replacing it and when the brake pressure came up to proper level, it blew out the epoxy. Their neglect could have cost me my life and/or someone else. read more

Very pleased with their customer service & workmanship.They were prompt, & very professional in getting back to me (same day), to set up an appointment, & then after sending out their technician Paul to measure, called me within a few hours with a quote. I wanted to replace a broken mirror in my home, replace a glass shelf on a wall unit, & replace a piece of glass on a tray. They were on time for the work to be done, & Paul their technician was very courteous & knew exactly what he was doing.Their office staff that I dealt with-Chris & Eileen represented their company very well and were very helpful.Priced very reasonably. I took my Jeep to be inspected at Gus s garage at Surf glass after inspection he said I needed all new breaks including rotors.He told me to my face that the car would not be able to stop safely but he would give me the inspection sticker anyway. What he did not know that I had the break system inspected and fixed by the Jeep dealership when it had 16000 miles on it ,I went to the dealership the next morning and had it re inspected and they said my breaks were like new and I have it in writing. This business is ripping off the people of Long Beach and it should be investigated and shut down ,it is a menace to the driving public.Richard Burns Long Beach resident. read more

Replaced glass on antique light fixture. Reasonable price. Wanted to support local business so would use again if price is fair.

We have been in the neighborhood for 8 years and had used Surf Glass previously for 2 smaller jobs and were happy with the service. However, after Sandy, we suffered a great deal of damage to our windows and window hardware, and Surf Glass was our first call - it all went downhill from there. They quoted us a very high rate to replace window hardware across several windows (however, it was necessary and we agreed to move ahead). It took them nearly 4 months to order the hardware, and each time we called to check progress were promised a call back and never got one. Finally, we checked in only to find the wrong hardware was ordered, so we had to start over. Finally, they came and did the installation of cranks and hardware...badly. They left a mess all over the house, did 3/4 of the job and when we called to ask when it was going to be finished, didn't get return calls, at all. Finally they said "oh, well you didn't say it was that many windows" (mind you, they came and audited the property and windows themselves). So to this day we have 85% of our windows done, the rest won't open because the hardware either wasnt' ordered or didn't take. A big disappointment as we always prefer to support a local business, but given what we had gone through, the fact that we were (2x) previous customers and paid upwards of 1,500 to replace about 10 window cranks and setups, we feel ripped off and taken advantage of. As a result, we will never go here again for anything, and will drive 3 towns over out of our way even though these guys are 2 mins away. read more
