Rented these at Belem boardwalk on a whim. The representative was super kind and friendly and…read morehelpful and allowed for free test rides so we returned back to the town center this way. We're fairly athletic with good balance But it still took a little getting used to. About 30 minutes we were comfortable and after 50 minutes we felt half human half machine. We didn't need hands and could go any pace any direction forward backwards tight circles fast slow stop without any effort. Just like walking without thinking. When we deboarded we actually felt less balanced on our feet than on the sit go. The only time it got dicey was deboarding to check out this cool white round viewpoint closer to Belem. So just stay on the whole time if you don't feel in total control. The path is not always well marked and you need to cross some streets with a little traffic. It's hardest near Belem where the sidewalks slope a bit. Just follow the bikes which have a harder time on the cobbles with their narrow tires if you ask me. It was a gorgeous day though cold and windy so gloves help. We were a spectacle. Everyone stopped and stared. Everyone in the windows in restaurants rubber necked to stare at us. Kids cried telling their parents they wanted to try. People openly laughed and pointed at us as we passed. Sit go customers in the other direction waved to us in communion. Old Portuguese men in suits on the boardwalk stopped in their tracks with mouths agape. This is what it must feel like to be a celebrity. Due to a number of factors we returned a little late. My good experience suddenly soured when I was told I have to pay an additional 30 euro for the three of us being late less than the 30 minutes. I talked to the owner and it was straightened out to my satisfaction. I think they should revise their business model so it's not punitive. If the hourly rate is 15 then why 10 for half an hour? It feels unfair. If they made it 15 for the first hour and 3 for every 15 minutes thereafter with a 10 minute grace period, I think they'd have happier customers and make more money overall. In any event I'd recommend this experience!
