The prices are pretty good too if you start to compare with other organic retailers. Some of their prices are even the same as the mega chain supermarket just down the road. Situated on Smith St and servicing the healthy for the last 20 years, this family owned business is a pleasure to come and shop in. There is a very earthy feel with passive staff and smiles and positivity all around. If you can't make it down, they also have an online shop and even do home delivery.

Firstly, a confession…read more Although I occasionally brought organic produce, I had not signed on to the organic way of life. I thought it would be too expensive, boring, and not flexible enough for my student life. How wrong I was. I discovered Organic Wholefoods on Smith Street a couple of weeks before, and am now prepared to make weekly migrations to stock up on fruit and vegetables and a few other products as well. Organic Wholefoods boasts some beautiful regional produce (juicy oranges, enormous mushrooms and free range eggs) as well as an enormous range of cereals, flour, tea, nuts and more. I was particularly impressed with the wide range of tea and coffee, and had to get my hands on some of the Mount Zero Extra Virgin Olive Oil (under $20!). I was surprised to see that the produce was pretty reasonable (a couple of dollars here and there more than Coles of Safeway) but after buying and trying out the food I could definitely tell the difference. Although I may not have the budget to buy organic for everything, visiting and trying the produce stocked at Organic Wholefoods was an eye-opening and enjoyable decision.

Being quite new still to Melbourne its great to see importance placed on Vitamins in Melbourne. Vitamin Me provides really cheap vitamins and when i say 'really cheap', i mean beats Woolthworths and every other outlet i have ever seen. Stocking up on vitamins here can set you back no more than a few dollars. I can pick up my Iron supplements here for under $10 and my Multi-V for under $30 for three months worth! Vitamin Me also has a large range of protein bars for an after gym snack and powders for bulking up. Their price for a two litre tub is the same price as what i receive with my gym membership discount at my gym's store.

I regular this shop (Only recently discovering it) to buy protein bars and powders not necessarily because of their price (I can get cheap protein powders from my gym) but the range they have here is unbeatable. They stock many ranges to the likes of GNC stores. Also the monthly free magazines such as Living Now and Nova are a great pick at the front of the store. In all seriousness this establishment is the great place to buy multivitamins and other dietary natural supplements at an excellent price. It is better to go to a specialist natural supplement establishment such as this place without going to a supermarket for your vitamin hit to supplement your diet. The staff are friendly, the place is simple yet filled with positive energy. If you can make an effort to come here on the first Monday of every month where you receive a further 10% discount if the timing is right, then make it worth your while. There was a situation where I needed to buy probiotics immediately after taking antibiotics for a minor cold; I was impressed that the right probiotic product was picked with great results. A great establishment to also buy the common multivitamin as well as fish oil, and not to mention the protein bars for a great snack on the go.

It is the kind of place you expect to find in the hills surrounded by beautiful scenery and wildlife, but nestled inbetween variety $2 shops it is a nice surprise. The store itself is decked out in wooden shelves and the products are fairly well displayed. When I walked in I browsed for a minute or so before one staff member came up to ask if I wanted any help. I politely refused and she returned to the counter at the back of the store. It stocks a lot of different products including minerals, vitamins, fair trade coffee, tea, juice, vegan, organic and gluten free food, sports nutrition and weight reduction supplements as well as those super crazy-good-for-you foods like acai and goji berries and cacao and chia seeds. The prices seemed pretty reasonable although I don't tend to buy this stuff that often so I might be wrong. One thing I liked about the store was that it had heaps of information booklets and books for sale that were about health, nutrition and the products in store. It made it really easy to learn about potential options and the manager of the store seemed very knowledgeable about everything too. If you're looking for something to start that next health kick or just stay in the game, I would definitely recommend this place. There's no vitamin reps leaping down your throat and the staff seem like they genuinely want to help. Thumbs up to Mountain Health.

It can be hard to find exactly what you need if you are after something specific, as the shop is not laid out in a methodical manner, but for me this makes the shopping experience all the more enjoyable. Sometimes I think the staff at the Fruit Pedallers must think I'm a little fruity myself, when I spend hours browsing the shop only to come up to the counter with a bottle of milk and a cucumber, for example. Up until recently their fresh fruit and veg have been very very expensive. But with a recent change to their buying strategy, they have dropped prices significantly. Yay! Now we can all eat more organic food. Who knows I may even come up to the counter with a cucumber and a head of brocolli.
