    Fresh St. Market

Fresh St. Market is one of those spots you end up visiting way more than you planned -- because it…read morejust makes everything easy. The convenience alone is hard to beat. It's within walking distance of pretty much everything -- restaurants, condos, and even the ski lifts. So whether you're grabbing a quick breakfast before heading out or picking up something for a relaxed night in, it's right there when you need it. What really stood out, though, was the quality. The pastries were fresh and legit -- perfect with a morning coffee (available here, also). The fruits were vibrant, ripe, and actually tasted like fruit (which isn't always a given these days). The ready-made meals were solid across the board and are great options when you don't feel like waiting at a restaurant or just want something quick after a long day on the mountain. There was even a small selection of souvenirs (magnets, key chains, etc.) Pricing was surprisingly reasonable for a resort-area market. Coming from Hawai'i, where grocery prices can get wild, it honestly felt like a bit of a deal -- like things were almost on sale. All in all, Fresh St. Market hits that sweet spot between convenience and quality. Definitely a go-to while staying in the area.

Even before the non pandemic, this location had few redeeming features…read more In the past, we'd avoid this grocer, as their prices were ridiculously and needlessly inflated in comparison to their competitors just a few kilometres away in Sechelt. However, after my latest brush with this particular IGA, I'll be going out of my way to ward people off from making purchases here. Regarding "the" virus, it isn't lethal by any stretch of the definition, and the number of people who have died as a direct consequence of its influence is statistically negligible. These are facts backed up by official statistics. However, this IGA is managed by a virus evangelical, and when you pass through the entrance you will be harried every step of the way by the virus zealots who work here. I suffer from COPD, and am exempt from wearing a mask, and this was disclosed to the virus gargoyle who was stationed at the entrance like Dr. Mengele. Within minutes, my flagrant lack of respect for their virus cult was reported to the top tier manager, and I was soon cornered in the bread isle. I explained to this person that I suffer from COPD-not that I needed to, as such admissions are not required by law-and was given a scolding like an errant schoolboy. I was then told that I should have worn a visor, as it was clear that the virus was running rampant behind her, with the bodies beginning to stack up. Mid sentence, I turned and walked away. I walked away to the exit with this termagant shadowing my ever my step like I was the vilest of criminals. It was also clear that she was instructing her staff to bar my way should I ever think of entering ever again (not in this lifetime, baby!). Bear in mind that I was never rude to any of the staff here, and the only thing that I stated was that I was medically exempt from wearing a mask. I don't think that shoplifters are treated this poorly! Even before the silly virus protocols, this IGA had accumulated a poor reputation. As mentioned, I am now happy to discourage anyone from visiting this location.

I would give zero if I could …read more.. I will preface this by saying that I always try and shop locally and have been shopping at this particular IGA store in Wilson Creek on the Sunshine Coast for three years now. I have enjoyed the variety of foods that are always available and the courteous and kind people that work there. In particular, I have always chosen one cashier that is always so pleasant and cheerful. I wish I had taken her name because she is a real asset to your company. Well,, that has now come to an end. I have NEVER in my life been treated so horribly and obnoxiously as happened to me today. I was at my usual cashier and for some reason (both of my bank cards would not work in their machine). They both kept declining my purchases when I know, in fact, that one of the accounts had over $5,000 in it. She went out of her way to suspend the purchase and take me over to "customer service" - and I use those words VERY loosely after today -- to try their machine. Same thing happened with their machine. I am a 68 year old elderly person and I was getting so flustered and almost ready to cry. My grocery bill was $343 and I didn't know what I was going to do. I have spent an average of over $1,000 a month at your store. I expressed my concern to the "customer service" people -- there were two of them there -- a lady named Kat and a man named Glen -- that there must be something wrong with their machines as I knew the balance in my account. I was then taken aback by their care-a-less attitude and their discourteous remarks to me -- Kat responded by saying "Not our problem!" and walked away from me.. Glen shrugged his shoulders, gestured with his hands to go away to me, and stated in a very rude and obnoxious manner "Take it up with your bank.". "Not our problem!" As I say, I was near tears by this time. There were people around and it was extremely embarrassing on top of everything else. They both walked away and left me standing there not knowing what to do. Their manner and tone of voice towards me was offensive, rude, and not what I am used to receiving from this store. I know ownership has changed and I guess customer service is NOT a big issue anymore to this store. So after I collected myself I took my card and went to the ATM you have in that store... within 5 seconds I had the cash I needed to pay for my groceries, which tells me , frankly, that it was NOT my card and it was the card readers that were causing the problem. But, no, according to these two people it was all MY problem and to quote an oft-used phrase: "too bad, so sad" is the attitude I received. I then proceeded to advise both Kat and Glen that my card obviously was working as I received the cash from the ATM. I was laughed at by both of them. They treated me with such disrespect I am still shaking. I then proceeded to advise Glen that I found his manner very unpleasant and very offensive towards me. He retorted back with another laugh and told me he "didn't need this shit." Is this your idea of customer service? It was absolutely appalling. I said, "What did you say?" Once again he replied with "I don't need this shit." Then he caught himself and he started giving me all these excuses for his behaviour -- I was buy, I was with another person doing something else, I yelled at him. I can assure you that I don't yell at people. That is not my character. I told him this was the worst customer service I had ever encountered. He replied to me "You are the worst customer I have ever had." Once again, the tears started to come. I could no longer hold it in and in between the tears I told him he was an asshole and should not be working in customer service. He said something else to me which I didn't catch. He then slammed the gate in the customer service area and stormed off. I have no intention of letting this go. This is the most appalling display of disrespect to a customer I have ever seen. I will never be entering your store again. If this is what IGA hires for customer service it is not going to serve you well in the future. Granted, you probably don't care about me and my one little complaint. But with these kind of employees I think you may see an accumulation of this happening. I will be also writing a review on Yelp and any other site I can find. People like this have no right treating others with such disrespect and actually laughing at them -- as I had to experience today. It may be out of my way a bit, but I will go to Independent rather than set foot in your store ever again.
