Having only been in Flagstaff for three years I didn't have my usual list of "go-to" contractors so when I needed some tree work done I researched some companies here and on other review sites. I got two estimates. Larry from SuperTree is a consummate professional. He clearly knows his trade and is happy to share his knowledge. Larry gave us his opinion and suggestions but left it up to us to decide what we wanted done. The second estimate I got was a joke (and they got pretty good reviews). The owner stood in our yard and simply asked what we wanted to do. No input, no suggestions, nothing. Needless to say we went with SuperTree (interesting side note - SuperTree was a little less expensive but that wasn't a deciding factor). We have (had) 39 Ponderosa Pines in our rear yard - our total lot is .4 acres with the back representing about two-thirds of that. The trees were very close together resulting in some of them growing straight up with very little branching. They were all also competing for water. Aesthetically, the trees also blocked what is a pretty nice view of a national forest that we wanted to enjoy from our deck. The Supertree crew showed up and we tagged trees. It was difficult because we couldn't tell which trees should be removed until others were removed. They were very patient with us through the process and made some on the spot suggestions. In the end they removed 18 of the 39 pines. We still have a "woods" feeling back there but it opened up one side to the view. In addition to the pines we had Supertree remove 4 Aspens in the side and front yards. Those trees were growing in clumps with other Aspens and we took Larry's advice to get rid of them. Larry and his crew worked with out timing to have serveral trees removed and dead-wooded in late winter. Little did anyone know that the winter would be so harsh as to limit the days when work could be completed. And while the time to complete the job took longer that they were probably hoping for, we were amazed by their commitment to get it to completion, thoroughly, safely and well within our expectations. Thanks to their work we now have a visually attractive, fire wise property, which our insurer will surely appreciate...as do we. read more

My wife and I live adjecent to the National Forest so we're always concerned about the spread of fire around our house. We called Supertree to give us an estimate to "Firewise" our house. Larry came promptly and walked the 2.5 acres with us and gave us a quote and timeline. It was a lot of work including tree felling, brush clearing and removing ladder fuel. His crew (up to 5 depending on the day and type of work) was professional and worked quite hard. It was a big, multi-week job. One of our concerns with fire was if a large firetruck could even get up our tree-guarded driveway. Larry went so far as to have the local FD drive their big truck right up to our house after the tree work had been done. Awesome service. Larry and his crew have been pruning my "overly mature" and abused mulberry tree for the past 6 years. Larry and his crew are timely, and professional and do great work. Larry explains to me what the tree needs it was "topped" many years ago, which causes it to sprout and weakens the branches. Larry keeps up-to-date on new techniques and attends professional development classes. Larry and his crew did extensive work at our house over the past week. We have six huge pines and a bunch of deciduous trees. They trimmed deadwood off the trees, and did other pruning as needed. They removed a nearly dead tree; they thinned the aspen so that those that were left could grow better. They removed a bush that was competing with a pine for water. Theyremoved "volunteer" elms that were spouting. We did all this for the health of the trees and to improve fire resistance of the yard. Larry is an expert arborist with a lot of expertise on fire mitigation, and offered sound advice. We found the crew skilled, professional, and friendly. They hauled away everything neatly. They worked for several days, and at the end of each day they thoughtfully closed and latched our gates so our dogs wouldn't get out. Communication was clear throughout the operation, and our entire experience was very positive. They were great! The pricing was quite reasonable for the extensive work. read more

I HIGHLY recommend SuperTree Services and the owner, Larry Phillips. We have been working with Larry since 2016 when we asked him to inspect the condition of the trees on a property NW of Flagstaff that we were considering purchasing. Just before we were required to sign the contract, a snowstorm dropped 2 feet of snow and the roads were impassable. Knowing we were under time pressure, Larry borrowed a friend's snow mobile and we made the 2.5 mile trip back to the property to do the inspection. That's just one example of how he works. His knowledge, experience, passion, and sense of humor made it easy to decide to take his advice to purchase the property and to take the right steps to make it "fire wise". He and his crew thinned our trees and, importantly, made the property safer to be on. I learned so much in our first interaction about trees and the unique challenges in northern Arizona forests. Larry has taken a great deal of time to help us understand what and why he recommends what he does. He is patient, considerate and mindful of our goals for the property and our budget. Very recently we had to have 12+ trees removed due to bark beetle. I think he was almost as upset as we were and rearranged his schedule to take care of the problem immediately to help prevent further infestation. He took only the trees that he needed to and not one more. I always trust that he will take a conservative but responsible approach to each project. Larry Phillips at Supertree Services went way beyond the call of duty for me. I recently bought an older home in the Village of Oak Creek with four larger trees on the property. The property had been a rental for many years and the trees had been neglected. Durning a recent monsoon downpour, one of the branches on the Mulberry tree cracked. I called four companies that listed themselves as "Arborists" and only one of them replied, Larry Phillips. He came out and gave me a fair estimate. He educated me about how to water my trees properly and went out of his way to pick up the proper hoses for me, at his cost. He told me how my Mulberry had been "topped" by an uneducated trimmer and what we could do about it to make the tree healthy again. When his crew came, they were professional, safety-oriented and really cared about my trees. They did a fabulous job. Larry spent his time, at no charge to me, to help clear out a drainage pipe in my front driveway which constantly clogs and floods my carport. His crew cleaned the mud left by the last monsoon as it hadn't dried enough for me to move it, and replaced much of the dirt that had created an unwanted gully. None of this was a part of his tree service, nor did he charge me any extra. This guy is the best. We ordered a cord of firewood from Larry. Holy moly, that's a lot of wood! Anyways, the communication was good and the delivery was prompt. The aspen logs were all dry and clean. We'll be using this service for some trees management on our property. Real nice guy too! I highly recommend this tree service. read more
