They have parking in the back and large parking lot a block away. Dance floor is very clean and in great shape. All instructors are absolutely incredible with knowledge, love and desire to teach and make sure that you understand, accomplish and feel great. Leslie, Kelly, Oscar and Armando are amazing teachers with the unique techniques and specialties. They are able to help you to become an outstanding follower or leader or both. So, I enrolled my daughter in two lessons per week. Instead of learning proper foundations or techniques, she would spend the first hour doing conditioning exercises, and during the second hour, the theater program kids would join the class. That second hour was mainly used to rehearse choreography for their theater productions. Your child would receive even less attention, especially during the weeks leading up to the opening of a show. I honestly felt scammed. On top of that, the main roles in their theater productions seem to be dominated by the theater director's siblings. In case you don't know, when auditioning for a theater company, the casting directors usually want to hear you sing first, once you pass the singing audition, they want to see how well you can dance and then evaluate your acting last. But that didn't seem to be the case with their theater program. This is why their theater program is not growing! The heart of musical theather is singing. At $400 per month and four months to complete the production, you can find a much more affordable and better production, and most importantly, a FAIR opportunity for every child. I took my daughter out of this school and enrolled her in a different one. I was surprised by how different the approach was at the new school compared to The Grand Academy of Ballet. I also needed to use the bathroom and her directions weren't very clear, so I had to ask her where to locate it a couple of times. The age demographic of the participants was on the higher side, but everyone seemed so energetic. The instructor was also fun and lively. I liked her hip-hop style choreography which was full of energy and grooves. I was impressed that she was able to dance with so much energy for an hour straight. I overall enjoyed the music selection and choreography of the class. Overall, a decent experience here. Since it was my first time, I was able to get into this class for $15. Otherwise it would be $30 which I think is a bit pricey compared to regular dance classes in LA that go for 1 hour and 30 minutes for around $20. However, I do recognize this could be the standard for these types of classes. I wouldn't go out of my way to do this again, but would be possibly down if someone invited me. If you're new to the Playground here are some tips: - come early to find parking. Yes there's limited meter parking, but there are streets that let you park from 8-8pm without a permit for 2 hours - bring water you will sweat! - you can walk in with a bag of your clothes and additional shoes since they have dressing rooms - come with a friend if you're shy and so they can record you if you want - make sure your phone is charged so you can ask someone to record what you learned - remind yourself that you're here to have fun! Their L7 girls are amazing ! Expect to be part of more than several shows for Nutcracker with hours of rehearsals. So many well known graduates in American ballet companies. Advanced dancers are mostly very serious in the training and train in prestigious summer intensives such as SAB, PNB, MCB, John Cranko, RBS. The new director is very strict and expects a lot from the kids.
