I realized there are not too many reviews online about this party, so I thought I would write this review to give everyone a better idea of what to expect when they book the Supernova Balldrop Party. This party is hosted by the Novotel hotel. I was there for New Year's eve 2018 party. First, I'll tell you about my expectations for this party and then I'll talk about what I experienced after actually attending it. After watching and reading this party's promotional material, I was expecting this event to be spectacular. From what I read, I expected that I would be "guaranteed" a "direct" view of the balldrop in Times Square. I was also expecting the viewing area to be heated because the tickets said that if I select option 4, I would be in a "heated" east side patio. Second, let me tell you about what actually happened. The management and security were not very friendly. The view, for me and my friend who came with me was non existent and definitely not "direct". There were too many people crammed into a very tight space and it was almost impossible to see over them to view the actual ball drop in Time Square. As a result, I missed the ball drop (pictures attached to this review). Also, it was freezing cold in the patio. Even though, there were two small heaters in the East Patio, they were along the edges far away and definitely not enough to heat the entire patio. I am not saying everything was bad at this party. People were definitely dressed up spectacularly. Most people were there to be seen. Almost everyone was classy (except the couple of people who threw up all over the dance floor towards the end of the night, and this one drunk girl who had to be carried out of there passed out on this one guy's shoulder). However, all the stuff about people getting a "guaranteed", "direct" view, "heated patios" and "spectacular views" is false advertising on the organizer's part. In conclusion, the advertisements for this party are a big scam. It's a bait and switch.They just want to cram as many people as possible into a very tight space. This party was way overpriced, and even though I have not yet mentioned how bad the food was above, it needs to be said here--the food was horrible. This party is all hype, and empty promises, but no actual delivery. It definitely is not worth the $599, $699 or the $899 they charge per person for Option 4. Worth every penny! I paid for a table and it was definitely worth it. The drinks and food were great. Loved the DJ and we also got NYE party hats as you'd expect. The space is amazing and gorgeously decorated. I went onto the terrace to watch the ball drop and while it was pouring rain, the view was still amazing and the crowd made it even better. In the last couple of years my wife and I have not done a big NYE event, so this time we wanted to celebrate in a great way. In terms of the ticket experience, it was pretty easy to register and prep for the event. When we couldn't make the window to pick up wrist bands (gets you past police barrier), the organizers gave us instructions how to get through - and it was a breeze. When we got there we didn't have to wait to get our wrist bands and only waited a few minutes in line to get into the main space. We entered off street at 8:15 and were at the bar by 8:35, and that included checking our coats and bags. If you come in later, there is likely a longer wait to get in - but it still looked manageable. As for the food and drink aspect, the bar was well staffed and we never really had to wait for a drink. They were all smiles and got us what we needed in short order. We had 'standing' tickets, but quickly found a seat next to the dance floor. This ended up being a great spot, as they had awesome dancers doing acrobat and hula hoop performances. Since we were there earlier, we really had no problem getting food - though we did seem to run out of plates at times. There were some really tasty finger foods and desserts later on. They brought food out in waves, so there was always something new. My favorite were these little smoked salmon bites - in high demand, yet plentiful. As for drinks, we didn't really drink that much but there seemed to be plenty for everyone. Some places claim to have open bar, then they restrict what you can get. Not the case here! As the night went on, there was always entertainment. A mixture of electronic, pop and latin music filled the room. I didn't love every song, but the DJ did a good job of playing a little something for everyone. The dance floor was small (12'x16'), but that didn't stop people from dancing pretty much everywhere. My wife loved the woman dancing on stilts and I was entranced by the women hanging from the ceiling doing all sorts of contortions. The bathroom situation was fine for me because I went earlier, but my wife did say she had to wait a bit. This is a hotel issue, not the fault of the event organizers. If the line was long she just came back later. Different options exist to see the ball drop, but this one provided not just a view but also shelter from the rain. I appreciated the fact that we had ponchos provided to all attendees, which really came in handy if you wanted to go outside. This was probably one of the more miserable weather situations for NYE in New York City, but if you were prepared it was not a problem. From where we were in the space we could see the ball glimmering, along with the big screens that showed the crowd below. You're certainly not right in front of it, but when the countdown started we were on the deck with our ponchos and could see it all happening. The staff handed out party hats and noise makers, and made sure everyone was ready with a glass of Champagne. It was exciting to be with mostly strangers, all counting down together under the rain. While I started writing this with only my impressions and bits from my wife, I did go back to add a couple of things based on other reviews. I wasn't there in previous years, so it may have been different in some ways - and everyone is entitled to their opinion. On my end I try to separate what the event organizers can control versus the hotel. All I can say is that we had a great time, and we would certainly consider doing it again in the future. Amazing experience! This was our first year going to the supernova ball drop and it was such a fun New Years! The performers were amazing. The appetizers and deserts were delicious, and I really liked the DJ. He played a really diverse playlist, all show fun jams. If you want to get the classic New York Times Square ball drop, this party is the way to go! read more

Worst money I ever spent in my life! I hope to save someone from spending A LOT of cash on this event. I was there for New Years 2018 visiting from San Diego. I waited to post comments until I hoped to save others the risk of planning a NYE in NYC trip around this event. From the ticket pickup to the countdown, it was all a horrible experience. In the 7 degree weather at the ticket pick up earlier in the day, I asked if I can check in my boots with the coat check when we returned for the party so that I can switch to my heels after walking to the party from the Times Square security barrier a few blocks away. I was told "yes". After getting tickets and heading back to hotel to get ready, I put snow boots on and carried my heels. No fault on the event that we had to wait in the freezing weather to pass the security area to walk to the hotel. Thank god for my boots! Arriving at the event at the coat check, they would not take my boots with my coat. Eventually, the boots were taken when I mentioned my frustration that I was told differently earlier. Inside the event it was chaos. No flow of traffic mingling about, just in like sardines. Good luck getting to the food table. As soon as the scraps came out vultures were on it as they stood around the buffet table since there was really no place to stand. I understand that people purchased tables. I was not looking, needing, or even wanting to sit, but to at least stand and mingle without having my rear in someones face that is sitting at a table or being constantly ran into by people just trying to get by. Dance floor, tiny. Maybe a 10'x10' area. For NYE and the amount of people it was way too small and in a horrible location. The music, mostly not in English! The bathrooms! 3 stalls really! Advertised as a VIP event to then spend an outrageous amount of time in a bathroom line. Too many people for only 3 stalls. No guaranteed view of the ball drop from the bathroom. So make sure to leave your family and friends at about 11:10 pm for the bathroom to make it back to them for the ball drop. I almost missed the countdown. Most money I have ever spent to wait in a bathroom line for a good chunk of the evening. The view, too far. The room is long and narrow with the ball way off in distance off the narrow side. I didn't see a thing. What's the guarantee? The staff, unfriendly and not aware of the environment. They seemed just as frustrated that they could not move through the room to do their job. I got these tickets at the advice of my travel counselor with American Express. I have sent them a similar email. I did not like their advice. read more
